budget? i've seen some good deals on some boston acoustics amp recently as they're getting out of car audio.

not familiar with the sub but i think that you should run a ported enclosure to get the most output possible.

i think you want a pair of 2x4 units. the nanodigi outputs aren't analog. on the other hand you could get away with just 1 2x4 unit if you doing the subwoofer channel processing at the amp.

depends on where the passive xovers are i guess. personally i would focus on frequency response over imaging.

no way to tell until you give them a listen. pro's and con's to both locations you could also try the sail panels by the mirrors or higher in the door.

fiberglassing tweeters in A pillar are much easier then doing doors. get some velco, double sided tape, or that blue tacky stuff for hanging posters on walls, and try the tweeters in different places and try different angles (on axis to off axis).

In my boat I have a Gal Tab 2 for a H/U with a pair of miniDSP's. My boat has just under a TB of music on it. ALL controlled by the tab. Any other media I want streamed I do by tethering. I absolutely see no reason to put a h/u in a car anymore. I'll never own one again. Of course, my tab would be limited to 72gb of data if I wanted to stream to monitors as well. For most people that might cover their music collection, but it is a far cry from what I need. You mentioned miniDSPs, which one do you use exactly? Installing a tablet as the central unit in my vehicle sounds great. Only thing would be to find a way to mount it, how well I extend the video playback for the screens to be installed in the headrest. Is there any lost in sound quality, going through so many adapters from source to amplifier. I really want to pursue this avenue now, just need a place to start. http://www.minidsp.com/onlinestore/detail/7-minidsp-kits/flypage_new/40-minidsp-kit?sef=hcfp depending you install you may need more channels (multiple units). if your running 2-way active +sub you could run tweeters and mids off the minidsp and run signal straight to the sub from the source (using subwoofer amplifier for processing). if your running a 3 way + sub you probably want to use 2 minidsp's. if you not running active then a just one minidsp is probably all you need. the choice of plugin would probably depend what kind of processing you need. idk about the video output capabilities. probably depends on the tablet. signal should be perfectly fine for car audio at least. the dac's in current hardware are pretty solid.

a 7" tablet is only slightly larger than a factory double din opening, i dont think you would have to relocate vents. when i looked into car pc's i was turned off by the price and complexity of the install. a tablet with a few apps get you 95% of functionality of a car pc. perhaps you could keep the double din as well as use a tablet like the vid below... i dont see why you would want to keep the double din though.

maybe you could do an ipad or ipad mini install with an apple tv displaying to monitors controlled via air play.

other tablets have larger storage options. or use a mini usb to thumbdrive for larger storage.

i'm planning to run a nexus 7 as my "headunit" and gps. then headphone out to a pair of minidsp's for processing.

fi X might be another option. Fi just brought it back so i dont know how it compares to the gcon. you could model it in winisd and compare it to the gcon.

225 is better price then the 350 i was seeing, as long as the box is solid. idk about DC. perhaps you could find a used box from another mazda forum member if you wanted to save money there. if money isn't a big consern i think you will be happy with custom box and a sub like the gcon.

even if he builds it himself it should only be ~$100 in materials. how do they get off selling a "custom" box for over 300.

i'm seeing on the site that their custom boxes are >300$, personally i'd try to build my own. with the power you have available a gcon would probably work great.
