Kicked to the couch. Motherfucking women.
  2. The BAMF5500 has protection circuits, at worst it would go into protection when powered on, and return to normal when the 4 ohm 6x9 was hooked up. It is possible that it fried the amp...highly unlikely though.
  3. He already checked his amp with another speaker so the sub has nothing to do with it. Sounds like an rca issue or grounding issue since you say it gets warm fairly quick, right? Right on Jay. Although he did say his ground is in 1/0 aught on the frame. Have you upgraded your battery ground though?

About 60-65 lbs. Do you need exact weight?
  5. Do you have a DMM? Have you tested the RCA's?

Is it possible to tool a LMS style 22" basket? The S.M.D. basket?
  7. I doubt Jacob measured, so just take the cone body diameter plus 1/3 the width of the surround. Dude take time to read prior to commenting. Mr. Obvious, that is what I have been estimating. Since no one but Jacob knows I doubt it would be a problem to measure for a paying customer. I have little patience for disrespectful people. At the present time I have several enclosures in the design and building phase and I don't want to waste either my time or Jacobs. I read what you said perfectly fine, I think you forgot your manners for a minute as well.I told you to re-estimate because it's Sunday and Jacob won't be able to reply till the morning, an as you said, "At the present time I have several enclosures in the design and building phase and I don't want to waste either my time or Jacobs." Don't you think that taking Jacob away from his already busy schedule to measure something you can estimate very accurately yourself cause you and him to waste your time? Forgive me if I offend you, but I think you should be taking your own advice.

Unless you isolated your front battery from your engine compartment as well added batteries to the back, then you have lots of wire to run, at least it's not hard

Are you moving Aaron? Very possible. Wifey and I both have job offers south of Baltimore. Her's in downtown DC, mine in between. I really enjoy the DC area. If you both got offers why not!? You have kids don't you?

yeah if i remember right i think i saw something about this on ROE a long while back. and i think one of the guys from Fi said they were only gonna do the BTL and BL. but dont hold me to this, i dont wanna be the one responsible for false rumors. If I remember correctly they were going to make the BTL an BL 22" for sure, the Q is a little more difficult because of it's lower motor strength but Scott was working on it, the SSD can't be a 22" for that reason.

  13. Why couldn't it? A properly designed enclosure is required, as in any other situation. The benefit is the large surface area of the drivers which reduces excursion requirements for a given output level, which keeps the driver's excursion further within it's linear operating range which will reduce distortion compared to similar drivers with less total surface area operating at higher excursion levels. Very well said.

Not all competitions are sanctioned guys I won my first competition and it wasn't a MECA or IASCA competition, just a local thing.
  15. No problem, I have the day off I enjoy doing this

With dual voice coil subwoofers one VC is wound on top of the other, so when you buy a recone, it is technically two voice coils. There is a chance you will notice a change in sound between the copper coil and flatwound aluminum coil, if you notice a sound and don't like, or the copper coil ends up failing, you can order another recone. Awesome, thanks a ton. In the end this will probably prove to be a good thing since the flatwound coil will help me be able to peak a bit more. Am I right in assuming my decibel score will go up a little with both subwoofers reconed with the flatwound? Got my 2nd competition on January 16th...won my first one in my division with a 142.5db Right, the copper coil is meant for flat response, the flatwound coil will peak more. That's a nice score, good luck at your next competition.
  17. A lot of it comes from experience, simply if you hear mechanical stress, or smell burning, other than the glue heating up for the first time that's a sign to turn it down. If you correctly set your gains and filters that will make thermal failure less likely, and if you build the correct enclosure that will make mechanical failure less likely. i hear u on that one? what would be the perfect enclosure for those? size of port holes or does it matter? Yes port area matters. 3.0-3.5 Ft3 per Nightshade is recommended, a general rule is 14-16 In2 per Ft3 of airspace.

You are correct, to change both subwoofers you need two recone kits. The flatwound coil will help thermally, more than the copper coil did. Just FYI: You don't have to order two recone kits, you could upgrade the working one later if needed. But over time it will fail just like the other one.

There is no such thing as "too little power". Please put more thought into your threads, read the thread guidelines in my signature and then ask a question. This thread will be locked just like your last one was for that reason.

Your lucky, it was thermal failure not mechanical, if it were mechanical you'd have to send it to Fi. Contact Fi about a recone but get the flatwound coil this time, 2,600 watts is too much for two SSD's, they are rated for 1,600 watts combined. Do the recone yourself it is not difficult.
  23. I think your stretching it a bit there. For the average user 1,500 watts is too much for any version of the Nightshade. what would u suggest? I got a 200 amp alt. 2 spar batteries focal mid's and highs, and im trying to make these 15"s pound really hard. im sure ur a little more exprierenced than i am so be honest, what would u suggest to make these pound really hard? Normally I suggest people stick to rated power, because they will "pound really hard" at rated. Of course volume increases when power increases, so does heat though. If they are in the correct enclosure and you are smart about how hard you push them go ahead with the SAZ-4500D.
