Very big build
I'm building up a "foundation" for a future bass race setup in my Jeep. Right now, it's just for two 15's but I would like to get some heavy duty 18's in the future once I add more power to the mix.... The rear chamber is 9 cubes tuned to 33 hz and the front chamber is big with a big port The port and subs from the rear chamber will be facing right in front of the loading wall. For anybody that asks why I used particle board....Lowe's was out of MDF, plus it was cheaper. Not a big deal to be honest. We'll start off with what was in my Jeep before: Start of the tear out...

Door panels: carpet or paint? pics!
Yeah, very little though. I got a few ideas from guys over on CA.com, I think I might carpet first them vinyl over that so it would have a good feel to it. I just need the right tools to do that first.

Door panels: carpet or paint? pics!
I've posted this on some other places and I'm trying to get some feedback..I've ran into a dilemma. I don't know if I should carpet my door panels or if I should just go ahead and paint them. I have quite a bit of black carpet lying around and I think paint wouldn't be as durable since door panels can flex from every day use and it's kind of tedious prepping plastic for paint. Four 6.5's in each door. passenger side:

did more damage than what I thought...
Sorry for the slow reply, I haven't had a chance to get on a computer since school started up. My Powerbass XA 3000D was running on the pair at .5 ohms sooooo quite a bit of juice. Yeah, it was a disaster! The crazy thing was, the setup was still insanely loud. I can't wait to get my recones for my 15's. I'll get ahold of you soon, Mark. back to class.

I would say around 32 (maybe thicker) guage round copper wire. If there was a flat coil option, I bet they would take more power

Seriously, the cut on my finger is really bad. I taped it up and started taking the frame off the basket and blood was squirting out from the bandage.

Well, after further examination, one of my SPL 12's is completely trashed. 2 of the tinsel leads are burnt and the surround almost came loose from the frame. Some slight tearing is obvious on the surround and the coil was somehow misaligned, you'll see in the pictures where it managed to rub against the pole piece and the coil gap. hey Mark, looks like I'll need some recones in the future Just some advice, don't paint the inside of the basket where the soft parts are mounted. The glue on the spiders and surround were coming loose. It was too easy to take the soft parts off. Even though these subs were beaten pretty hard, the SPL series is one of my favorite series of subs anywhere. Thanks for a great product that can take abuse. Snapped tinsel lead one of the tears in the surround My hand slipped while taking apart the surround with a flat head screwdriver and hit the edge of the basket. This was right when it happened. I literally had a pool of blood in the palm of my hand spilling EVERYWHERE 5 minutes later. I should have gotten stitches but it's better now. Voice coil rubbing here's the former. I think I might recone these to 15's once I get the appropriate recones and some 15" baskets.

Oh no!
No, it did that same thing last time. It pulled up that layer of paper first time and I just glued that part down. Now it completely came off. Don't know whether to recone it or just glue it down again. I could recone them to larger subs, too.

Oh no!
haha, actually, they were in a bandpass (4th order) so no sunlight at all. The dustcap came just a little bit loose before when I had them in my ported enclosure but I guess I didn't fix it all the way. The coils still look great.

Oh no!
As I was making some room in my Jeep to get ready for my big move, I took out the subs and noticed that one of them had the dustcap loose and shreds of paper were in the box! Thankfully, the cone didn't shred. The sub still functions but it looks awful. Oh well, part of the game I guess.

SPL 12 4th order bandpass (rebuild)
It's very loud and has great impact, but unfortunately, I miscalculated the ported chamber and it's actually at 7 cubic feet tuned to 48 hz. It's brutal from 40-50 hz but I'm going to need to build a port plug or something if I want to get back the 35 and below that I was getting with my ported enclosure of death. Welp, now I'm going to work on a transmission line next!

Got the rest of it together... Wiring the little guys 8 awg leads Coils still look good after daily beating from 1500+ WRMS One more!- SPL 12s
Yeah, they play that low in my Jeep also But the slight gain of tuning an enclosure that low in my Jeep isn't worth losing the huge peak at 40-45hz- SPL 12s
What kind of vehicle?? Depending on the size of the enclosure, in my Jeep there's no reason to have a ported enclosure tuned below 40 hz. My SPL 12's are loving 1500+ watts each- 2 12 nightshades capability of getting louder options
Try a bandpass- TLine for 15" lvl 2.
Damn, alls tgus searhing for TL's and I learned more from this post than anything. This needs a sticky. Thanks to Chimay grand reserve(s0) I's soo drunk rigt now too.,- SPL 12 4th order bandpass (rebuild)
I had my old 4th order BP lying around in my basement so I decided to take it apart and modify a few things. I've made the sealed chamber smaller and I'm going to add more port area to the ported chamber. It will be a slot port facing up along the backglass, 5"x26." Sealed chamber is 1.5 cubes and ported is around 8. Tunage is 45 hz. And yes, it will wang The enclosure looks pretty rough because of wear and tear of taking it in and out of my Jeep but the inside of it is where I sanded down the fiberglass resin. I'll probably just sand the outside and use black spray paint on it. haha. Yeah, the cutouts are off center just a tad Hello big ported chamber All in all, it's not going to be very pretty but the inside is pretty smooth and it's going to be loud. More pics to follow!- TLine for 15" lvl 2.
Awesome. I always thought that if the mouth was large, you would get some added output. I'm probably wrong, though. If you had a sub with a stiffer suspension, do you think a higher compression ratio could be used to get some more output?- TLine for 15" lvl 2.
You're saying that a well designed TL will have more output than a bass reflex enclosure? Just want to make sure because I've always read mixed reviews before I started making sawdust. I have plans lying around for an expanding TL except I used a 2:1 throat area (throat area was half of the total Sd) and the mouth was as big as I could make it. I'll have to build that after I finish my 4th order BP Sorry for the thread jack, this is just such an informative post. - SPL 12 4th order bandpass (rebuild)
