  1. It's great to hear all the positive comments. I plan to order it on Monday when I get payed. After I get my bracing figured out I will post a pic of the design so I can get all of your opinions.
  2. The ethos saved the day. I had given up on the idea that I could fit a 15" in the space I was willing to give up. Then I found the ethos. Man am I excited.
  3. How do these enclosure specs look? I designed it in sketchup and I am very happy with it. All I need to do is design some bracing and it will be good to go. It will also have a double baffle on the front to support this beast. Gross: 5.25 ft3 Port Volume: 1.62 ft3 Port Area Per Cube: 17.46 in2 Port Area: 58.5 in2 Net Volume 3.35 ft3 Tuning Freq: 32 Hz
  4. Oh man that is great news. Thank you again for answering all my questions. I can't wait to place my order.
  5. Awesome. I am convinced this will be my next woofer. Is the build time still roughly around a week like your site says?
  6. Sweet. Ok I hope this is my last couple questions. Would it be ok to run the ethos in a slightly larger enclosure, say around 3.4 cu net? I am having an easier time getting more port area with a slightly larger enclosure. I have a design that puts me at 70 in sq of port in a 3.39 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. It will be power to the subs rated power. I plan to order as soon as I get payed in the next few days, would this be an issue? Thank you for answer my numerous noob questions.
  7. Awesome thank you for the information. Another thing I have been seeing is these are rather musical. Do they perform well on the faster/ higher frequencies such as fast pace drumming in rock music?
  8. Wow thanks for all the replies everyone. I was playing around on the Torres calculator and I think 60 sq in of port is doable. Just need to do some double checking. Glad to hear this should work fine. Just trying to be positive I can run this because it looks like shipping is going to be over half the cost of the woofer.
  9. Hello everyone. I was searching around and ran across the 15" ethos and it has really caught my eye. Looks like a great quality woofer and the fact that it likes small enclosures is awesome. I have been wanting a 15" but couldn't seem to find enough room for one because most seem to like 4 cu ft. Now on to my question. I was reading on the dss site that the recommended enclosure is a 3 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. What threw me off was the suggested port area of 75 in sq. I understand all woofers are different and require a different amount, but this seems like a lot. My question is would I be able to reduce the amount of port area by some without any negative effects on SQ and if so by how much? I really like the looks of this woofer but I don't think I will have enough space if it needs that much port area. This will be for just one 15" in a daily set up. My goal is a lot of output while sounding great doing it. Thank you on advance.
  10. That is great to know! I have been going back and forth on whether I should stick with port/sub firing up or possibly changing it to port up/sub firing forward. I am almost positive I will stick with my original design. I have always had the problem of going back and forth because my mind never stops going when I am planning something new. Lol
  11. Thanks for the advise Alton. I am going to stick with the 12. I am pretty sure I could make the 15 work but I don't think it's worth the headache of finding the room for it. If I didn't need some of my rear seat it wouldn't be a problem. Lol
  12. how do you like it compared to the 2? I would think removing a 12" would be a noticeable difference. Sorry just curious.
  13. It's so awesome to hear all your positive feedback on ssa products. I can't wait to place my I order
  14. It's so cool to see pr's. You just don't see them that often. I need to hurry up and buy this xcon 12". I caught myself looking in the back of my truck thinking, you know what I bet I could squeeze the 15" model back there. Lol now I am debating on that. I honestly don't know if I want to give up that much space but at the same time am wondering if the additional cone area would be worth it. Man can decisions be tough. Haha
  15. Glad to here you love your zcon. I don't have enough power on tap for that beast. Lol. That's one of the reasons I chose the xcon. My amp is rated for 1800 rms so I thought the 2 would be a perfect match. I had a good laugh today. My buddy wanted to hear my current set up and was absolutely shocked at the output my little sundown e10 has. I told him just wait until I get the new beast of a sub, this thing is nothing compared to it. I was actually contemplating trying to find enough room for the 15" model, but I don't know if in want to give up that much room. I really need to decide because I plan to order in a couple weeks.
  16. from my experience almost all audio shops suck no matter where you are. Not all but most.. I bet shipping is a killer up there. Heck yeah it does. It is going to cost me $150 to ship up a single xcon 12". It's painful but for once I feel it's worth it. Lol
  17. Just got done going through your jimmy build log Alton. I love the use of pr's and how have the xcon cones on them. Top notch work, it looks great.
  18. Worse, Fairbanks. Lol. Unfortunately the audio shops up here suck too. I really haven't ran into any bass heads up here. Only been here a year though.
  19. I am glad to hear that. I have read nothing but great things about the SSA woofers. Can't wait to get it.
  20. Haha I can't wait to place my order with you Aaron. If it wasn't for the crazy shipping costs to Alaska I would have already placed my order. Just need a little more money to cover shipping.
  21. Awesome. I just wanted to make sure. It's always nice to hear positive feedback. Especially because I am very new to the ported enclosure game. I plan to order the Xcon on my next payday. Can't wait. This will be the first time I have made a brace like in the design and also the first time I have owned such a high quality woofer. I am super excited.
  22. Thank you for all the warm welcomes!
  23. Hello everyone, New to the forum so I am sorry if this is in the incorrect section but I didn't see anything specific to enclosures. After talking to Aaron from SSA I have made the easy decision to purchase an SSA Xcon 12" very soon. He answered all my questions helping me out a ton. Hands down the best customer service I have dealt with. The customer service plus the fact that the SSA subwoofers are built in the U.S.A. made my decision easy. Alright on to my design. This design will be port/sub both firing up in my crew cab nissan titan. The net volume after all displacement is 2.59 cu ft tuned to 32.7Hz. It has a double baffle and I plan to build it out of 3/4" MDF. It has 15.71 sq in of port per cube, a total port area of 40.7 sq in and a port ratio of 1:5.9. I will be powering it with my PPI BK1800.1D wired to 1 ohm giving it right around 1800w rms. Any advice/feedback will be greatly appreciated. Here is a picture of my design using sketch up.
  24. Hello everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Alaska, been here for a year. I drive a nissan titan and am currently running a sundown e10v2 off a PPI BK1800.1D(I know overkill. lol) and sky high audio wiring. I plan to upgrade to an SSA Xcon 12" here very soon. Can't wait to learn from the SSA forum members.
