IF you want to see an Asian in a box, go to 11:15- Joint World Finals
It is coming to NASHVILLE, TN !!!! http://termpro.com/asp/pubs.asp?ID=324 MECA, IASCA and dBDRA Announce Joint Finals at Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN on October 18-19, 2014 Car Audio Competition organizations dB Drag Racing Association (dBDRA), Mobile Electronics Competition Association (MECA) and International Autosound Challenge Association (IASCA) are once again joining forces to produce a joint finals event. The event will be held at the Nashville Expo Center at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN, home of the Nashville Speedway, during the weekend of October 18-19, 2014. This event will include all competitors from SQ to SPL and will allow for the opportunity to compete in multiple formats all at the same venue. The venue will allow for separate SQ and SPL competition areas, as well as a car show and demo area. As in 2013, the event will feature a “Quiet Zone” for SQ Judging in MECA and IASCA each morning of the event and plans are under way for the option of Friday night judging of sound quality vehicles. The SPL competition will take place in the show arena with pit stalls for all competitors that include electrical power. The Sound Quality competitions will take place in the Creative Arts Building, with the manufacturer displays being the central focus of the building, flanked by the top sound quality cars from across the country. "The goal for IASCA has always been to give back to our members; the last two years of unification have been successful with not only our members, but with industry as well" said Moe Sabourin, Director of Operations for IASCA "The markets in which we have hosted this event have seen benefits as well, especially with the local retailers. We want to keep that momentum going and our decision on location was based on keeping it entertaining for all involved. Nashville provides entertainment value for all who attend and by bringing the event to that city, we can offer attractions we couldn’t in the past. Our members have asked for the show to be there since we began our unified effort and this is our way of saying we’re listening to what they want. IASCA is truly excited to be going to Nashville for 2014 and we are proud to be aligning with dB Drag Racing and MECA once again!” According to Wayne Harris, President of the dB Drag Racing Association, “The dBDRA is a proud partner in this continuing endeavor. Nashville is one of our favorite cities to host finals. It is centrally located to many of the dBDRA competitors that reside east of the Mississippi. We look forward to a great event with the IASCA and MECA competitors. In addition to the SPL competition, the Sound Quality event will be enhanced at the event this year. “Come and listen to show cars with sound systems so clear, you'd swear you were at the concert! Demo vehicles and competition will be on display in the hall, for the car stereo expo,” adds Steve Stern of MECA. For more information on exhibiting or sponsorships at the event, please contact one of the organization representatives. Yeah I seen that. FML- Team IAK IronMan Explorer
Yeah, I am still learning, not only the breathing technique, but as well as the vehicle itself. During Saturday night, someone rolled down the driver window up and the passenger window down, and HOLY FUCK! I immediately rolled my window down!!! lmao. Thanks everyone for the compliments. I'm glad I'm finally at this point and look forward to giving more demos. Hearing others impressions is what really makes me happy to do this. To see others enjoy the system as much as I do. Thanks a lot Steve. I doubt it's perfect out the gate lol. So yes, there is still room for improvement. I'm gonna see how long I can keep the rental car. If I can keep it for a few more weeks, I will drop the truck back off at the audio shop to start and finish the testing. So to start, like my other review, here is my Review. Below, is a picture taken, one of my favorites, from Slamology 2014. I should start off by saying, this should NOT be an review, yes I've named the thread Review, but it should be more of an first impressions. The reason being, I've only had one weekend play time with them. Ok so to start off, my installation consist of 6 15" DSS Ethos powered by 3 Taramp HD8000, at this review 2 Taramps. Back up by 10 batteries and a single H/o Alternator. Again, I must stress that, these subs have never been played. Truck was running at 4pm Friday afternoon, and I was demoing Friday evening at 11pm. Ok, no the First Impressions finally begins. -------------- :musicality: So I'm not sure where this should go, either to the performance of the subs, or to the enclosure. Either way, holy crap was I blown away. Over and over again, I was told by the people who received an demo at Slamology that they were blown away by the sheer sound pressure across the entire bandwidth. A great song that displays this, is Young Jeezy - Put on. There are I believe about 4-5 different frequencies during the initial bass drop. I could bag trick that entire 45 second intro. Let me say that again, THE ENTIRE INTRO. Most people would only go in on the volume at the end of the bass line, where the lower frequency is. Which I don't blame them, everyone knows at lower frequencies it's easier to do "tricks". But these play just as hard down low as they do up high. Even have it on film, where people are amazed that I can do a shirt trick at 45hz just has much as someone else can at 30hz. The only difference is, 45hz hurts, no pun intended, and 30hz just feels like hair is telling you move out the way haha. :cooling: Start this section off by saying, there was no issues. Again, not sure if because of subs or if because of enclosure. If you notice, my build the subs are inverted, this was by design, to intentionally offer even more cooling to the subs. Now, remember, I have 16,000 watts going to the subs, of course it's not full 16,000 when you account for everything, but still. For these subs to be rated at 1,800 rms, they were definitely handling the 2,600 watts I was giving them full tilt. I have no hesitation about applying more power. With this particular design, power handling also goes up, so I feel rather comfortable applying 4k to each sub for world finals. The subs NEVER got hot on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Saturday night, I demo'd for quite a long time, maybe over 30-40 mins constant, and at the end of the night, I was finally able to get the motors warm. During Saturday, I believe Timmy mentioned he felt warm air coming out of the enclosure, but the subs weren't hot. I believe it could have been some trapped heat as that Asian climbed in the freaking box haha. I was also checking motor and beneath of the cone, and like I said, was worst warm to the touch, that's it. Was never able to bottom the subs out, smell any kind of coils, and no subs were blown. :build quality: Four of my subs were built by IA, the other two were from Quentin himself. All held up just fine with the abuse I gave them. There was never once, any kind of mechanical noise during the weekend. No loose spiders, no discoloration from the what I could see on the tinsel leads, no loose dustcaps. I would hear if one had popped into the sealed section. No ripped spiders, nothing of that nature. All was well, they are each in the same faction has out of the box. Which is a huge plus, as I was playing songs as high as 57hz and as low as 26hz and lower full tilt with high power. :SPL: Here is the fun part, right? haha. Once more testing commence, I will update with new numbers. So as of now, best scores are, 160.1 outlaw, and 159.1 dash driver door open. Again, BRAND NEW subs. Official best score, is 157.75 sealed on dash. This was without me know my peak. Score was at 57hz, later found out peak is 55hz IIRC. I will later measure lower frequencies full tilt and stuff. Going to try A LOT of testing. Again guys, there was NO, I mean absolutely NO testing yet. I believe right now, the box is tuned at 45hz? So, these number are out of the gate. We all know, with testing alone, numbers can go up as much as 2-4dbs. And these scores are at 16,000 watts, not the 24,000 watts. :personal thoughts: Wow, I'm just blown away so far. I just feel like, I finally have the setup I've always wanted, and a lot of that goes to the support and product of DSS. I just feel like the Ethos are kicking my ass when I turn the gain up. It's crazy, just going up 1/8th on the gain, and it's like holy fuck, strap up your seat belt. I was giving myself demos on the way up to Indy, and just 30seconds half gain would get my back itching. The entire ride up, I could not stop smiling of just pure happiness and joy haha. Then to give out to demos, with good feedback, made it that much better. I would ask every person I gave a demo of their personal thoughts compared to other builds, and the response was just unreal. I would ask them, informing them that they've listened to already at least 15 different demos already, and 8 out of 10 would say mine was the best or their favorite. Either because of the bass, the install, the overall sound, or if they couldn't breath haha. Just overwhelmed with the support from the whole community really. :moving forward: Just gonna put this out there, I plan on switching to 6 15" DSS Tridents. My first go around with the prototype, was meh. Mostly because it was only "as" loud as my evil, it couldn't' take the same power as my evil, and it had NO cooling in it. I'm hoping this will be addressed in the final product, and will give me a World tittle. For next year, I'll be running an Quad Alt setup in my Explorer. And to take the tittle this year, I need a 160 at the headrest, fused. Which is my new goal. Which goes with my new personal goal, of an 162 on the dash!!! :Final though: My final thoughts, and if you're to take anything from this. Is that, no, the ethos is not the best sub in the world. But the Ethos is the best sub for his power rating and for it's price point. ----------- credibility: F.i BTL UFO, SSA Icon, SSA Zcon, SSA Evil, DSS Prototype- My Taramp HD8000 Review
Ok guys, here is MY personal Review of the Taramp HD8000 I personally own Three of them. I purchased two use from DangRebel here, and the third directly from Shizzzon. One of used ones from DangRebel went into protect immediately upon hooking up. And the BNIB from Shizzzon also went into protect while demoing Sunday afternoon while at Slamology. Here is a few pictures of my installation for Reference. On the chargers. So to explain my experience in total. My system consist of One DC Power 240XP, 100ft of 3/0, Ten Batteries. I also should mention I run each amp at 1.5 ohm, the amps are the Two ohm version. Now, the drive down to Indiapolois is about 5 hours long. For the better half of the trip, I would turn the gain up half way, couldn't take much more than that, (pressure wise). So the most my voltage would drop would be .1-.3 Volts. During some testing at the shop, we clamped 3200 watts starting at 2.7 rising to 8.1 pulling a little over 300 amps of current. The first time demoing there that Friday night, I was able to burn up 2 300 amp fuses while playing full tilt after 2 or 3 songs. Replaced the fuses, back up and running. Saturday, I beat ALL DAY. Was still having engine issues. So for 87% of my demos were at battery voltage. Since the engine was off, that also means no rear A/C to cool them, still no issues. Yes, they did get warm. On sunday, got warm enough to not hold your hand longer than 30 seconds. But again, it wasn't THAT hot lol. To describe how the amps are mounted. The rear wall is 3" thick of High Quality MDF. Which an another layer of 3/4" wood mounting plate is attached. Then the steel rack. Then the amps are mounted onto an 3/4" MDF mounting baffle, that is mounted onto the steel amp rack. Shizzzon informed me that there was still too much vibration, and wired too low, which is why the bottom amp failed. I was able to verify that the amps were indeed moving, but from what I could see, it was only becuase the truck itself was moving. Not much else I can do about that. So in sum, these amps, in my opinion, are the better choice for us in every aspect, EXCEPT durability. If you think of where these amps come from and their origin, it makes sense for what I see is their biggest flaw. These amps are MUCH more sensitive than Koreans. The output section especially. We had I believe 3 other Team IAK members whom amps failed as well. One was becuase the wrong gauge was used for the speaker cable. One was for no reason, there's mine, and one other. So, for advice for other users. It is ok to run these amps, they do power, cheap, small, and stupid efficient. To run these long term usage, have these key items. 2-3 Group 31s PER HD8000. Use the appropriate size for the output section. 8 gauge min. Ensure there is NO to VERY min. vibration. And wire to the proper ohm load. I wouldn't even risk burping lower than rated. Do not count on box rise. Please note, that the ENTIRE weekend I beat the living piss out of my system lol. Most people, demo for 20-30 seconds at most per demo. I would play full songs full tilt, had no issues. I played my system for at least 4-10 hours in total over the weekend. The amps gave me no issues until Sunday afternoon. Which was a much hotter day, maybe 5-10 degrees more. There was no smoke, just protect light. Yes there was troublshooting performed. Turn system off, let cool down, unplug everything, let cool down, remove RCA/Speaker cables, etc. Moving forward, I will Continue to run these amps. At four ohms each for now, then at World finals run at 2 ohms.- Team IAK IronMan Explorer
Lo WHAT Tahoe?! Tahoe has a bit more space than I do. Discussing future upgrades, FML. I've literally, PHYSICALLY, have ran out of space for any more equipment. Only options I have at this point is to upgrade the current equipment in direct swap. Switching all batteries to XS would be the most expensive option. The alternator project is for next year, Quad alt setup. And this fall, swap Ethos out for Magnatars/new name.- Team IAK IronMan Explorer
