Yes if he needs a tiny box w6 would be perfect. I loved my 12w6's I had 3 run off a Phoenix gold M100 and to this day I have never heard a better sounding sub stage not even the W7 could match their sound but they are pricey no doudt. The ID max sound similar but lack the punch the 6's have but there what half price of the JL?

He said he wanted sq not spl so why even bring up spl. And if he had said spl yea I would have said sundown team or mayhem's but he said sq and image dynamics make a decent sq sub for cheap. If he wants something with a little more output I suggest ssa icon or w7 those are about the loudest subs I have heard that didn't sound like fart cannons.

Out of those I would do the image dynamics IDQ those are really great sounding subs. Only sub I have heard that sounds as good as my JL my friend has a set of 12's and swears by them. I personally like JL just a little better but they do cost more. Fi also makes a decent sq sub for cheap.

Dude I'm not trolling at all I even said NVX would be ok for a beginner. I just couldn't figure out why m5 would say a top shelf product is junk and a mid shelf product is nice. Seems to me price is more a factor to him then the actual product.

No watts ain't just watts. Take a 1000 watt dual Walmart amp and switch it out for a audison or arc and see what a huge difference in sound it makes. But power has got cheaper that for sure. I paid almost a thousand in 96 for two Phoenix gold amps M100 and M50 and they barely made 1k and 500 watts. Now you can get 5k watts for the same money. But for some reason the market has moved away from subs that are efficient and don't need much power to get loud to huge monster subs that need 3 alternators worth of juice to realize there true potential. But back to your question a watt is not just a watt there are other factors that make a good amp sound better then a cheap flea market amp. ie damping factor, crossover slopes, and little things like what kind of metals are used in them. If all amps where the same everybody would just buy hifonics or audiopipe

And I also have several brands in two cars. My show car has a all JL, alpine SQ system and my daily work car has 2 sundown team 12's and a crescendo BC 3500 for when I want to really feel that hard blur your vision bass. Although the sundowns are way louder they don't sound near as good as the w7's. This is not guess work this is first hand experience with both. Md mdmmm

I never said JL was the holy grail of audio or anything like that. In a earlier post M5 had bad mouthed my system saying and I quote JL is Junk then in this post he says NVX is nice. So I'm just pointing out that to me this proves he has some brand hate weather it be JL, kicker, hifonics, hertz, or whatever. Not trying to start a argument just pointing out M5's flawed argument.

First off I don't have a JL boner I just know they make a decent product but are a little pricey no doudt. I own a Dodge and a quick Google search will tell you it is number #1 on the list of American built cars. It litterely has more parts built in the US then any other car and it was assembled in Michigan so how is it the car with more American parts then any other vehicle isn't American. And I traded in a older model stratus coupe that gave me 180k trouble free miles never done q thing to it except brakes and tires. And my sister has a Charger with 260k and all its ever had replaced was a altenator and some tune up parts. If that's not reliable I don't know what is.

So JL is garbage but NVX is nice? This one sentence has told me all I need to know. No offense but NVX is cheap Taiwan stuff that's not gonna sound very good and sure isn't gonna hold up well guranteed. I do like the other brands SSA caries I own crescendo and sundown myself so I know there damn fine products. And I have no problem with cheap affordable products for beginners or someone on a budget but I can see now how biased M5 is if he thinks JL is junk and a cheap Taiwan brand is nice.

I can't wait to finish up my spl rig. If I could ever get another crescendo 3500 to match the one I got I could but every time I check there sold out or on back order. I'm about to give up ever getting another one and sell this one and buy 2 ampere audio amps instead. I have 2 sundown team subs and really need more power. I also have a sq setup in my new car that's all JL and alpine. 13w7's, HD1200/1's 137bt hu JL C2 61/2's and 6x9's and a alpine amp running them. Plus one 1000 watt capable battery in the trunk.1

Even I know that much. I would never use anything over a 8" and if I could help it I would stick to 61/2's.

Yea I miss my alpine that had all the time alignment and eq adjustments. I can't remember what the number on it was but at the time it was the most expensive model alpine sold. Now I have the 137bt it's ok but doesn't have the equalization my old one had. I want to go active but I'm about afraid I would make it sound worse then my passive system instead of better. But then again if your gonna learn and grow you gotta take a leap of faith some times. At tax time in gonna get a real outboard amp for my highs and mids and maybe a mini DSP or I might try the JL just to keep everything matching. Ain't made my mind up yet I'm pretty happy right now but would like a little more oomph.

Yea I have never used a DSP so I'm a little ignorant on the subject. My experience with equalization goes up to electronic crossovers of the 90's and honestly I didn't exactly know what I was doing then I mostly played with them until I got the sound I wanted and called it a day. My eq curves usually ended up looking like a U on the settings that's where I always found the best sound. Some of it I do understand though like time alignment you set it to have all speakers reach your ear at the same time or atleast that's how I understood it. I have been reading up on the subject some trying to figure it out.

Yep that's it the twk 88 and twk d8. If someone isn't familiar with tuning a active system, they can just pop in the tuning cd and it gives you the step by step setup procedure.

The new JL audio DSP is nice it comes with 3 levels of tuning from beginner to pro. I think I'm gonna go active and get myself one since they made it so easy.

Ssa sells box designs for $30-$35 I think. That or use a box calculator and type in your numbers and model it and see what you can come up with. If it where me I would just pay to have them draw you up some blue prints then you know it's right.
