I can't agree with Fi being that much better of a choice, given no budget constraints. I'd rather have the JL. Do you need to go with all new stuff, though? You could get a lightly used 12W6v2 and Slash series amp for much less than that online. Or a Sundown amp and a W6v2.

There are some tools that are necessary if you want to do DIY things in audio, and knowing voltage, impedance, and current is crucial Unless you have a shop do everything, that's something you'll deal with in every audio setup you'll encounter. It's also possible to set your gains solely by ear, but picking up distortion isn't the easiest thing at first for subbass.
