    Penguin got the top...
  2. You don't need a seperate midrange driver with horns...the horns cover the midrange region. The SLS's are a good choice for midbasses, though.

  4. Aw, they look dainty Are you going to leave the plywood edges exposed? I'm wondering how to finish them on mine...
  5. Porn no, every audio forum is good except for CarAudio.com.

I can't stand Safari. Loads fast enough for me on FF...

http://home.comcast.net/~burningamp/index.html Looks promising, next week there should be some good photos from this
  8. There's no real benefit, unless you're chasing tenths on a sensor...

If you have a six channel amp, why are you using passive crossovers? You have more than enough channels to go active...I'd take those passives out and not look back.

Very good idea For me, the output from the sealed enclosure was more than needed, but it may be different for you...the only way to really know is to do what you said.
  11. The positive I see with the JL amps are the impedance flexibility in case you ever wanted to change woofers.

    I found it pretty boring...
  14. You've been here two years and don't have any patience? I'm sorry...most people on other forums realize that the posters do other things and a few days' wait isn't a big deal.

I'm not really an expresso fan...tried it, tried to like it...eh. I'm satisfied with buying a bag of decent beans, grinding them and making plain-jane coffee.
  16. If you're looking to get a shipping quote, just go down to your favorite shipper and get a quote... Otherwise, I can't see any reason that it would make a difference knowing the exact weight...
  17. The Wikipedia page was deleted, IIRC...if you could upload them all somewhere, that'd be great

Well, at least we won't be doing it in December...with snow coming down...
  19. All you'd need to do to use the Alpine for active is to have four channels of amplification...one pair for the tweets, the other for the midbasses. Instead of front/rear preouts, you'd have high frequency/low frequency preouts instead.

It sounds like you'd be interested in a Q if you decide to stick with Fi. No options needed other than a copper coil if you went with two of them - if you're willing to back down the power slightly, not like you'd notice it at all anyway. You're going to have a hard time finding a single driver that takes 2.5kW and sounds decent, because people who want something to sound decent don't require that much power on a single sub. It's a lot easier to just increase cone area than run into power compression and distortion from coil travel...
  21. Tuning is a bit high for those genres, unless he has lead ears and couldn't tell the difference... Power recommendation places it squarely in the Q range, I'd go either sealed or tuned lower. A single cab doesn't have a ton of airspace to pressurize in the first place, I doubt the lost output would be noticed.

I think you need to tell your friend that it wouldn't be your fault, he needs to get his expectations in order

Either that or sealed, I really liked the 12Q I heard in their recommended sealed alignment.

I haven't been impressed with the PBX stuff I've heard...their subwoofers sound like ass and I've heard about reliability problems with their amps, and they don't make anything worth it for front speakers.

Used isn't always bad either, you just need to know who you're buying from, whether or not they can be trusted...
