When they started discontinuing their speaker/sub lines back in '05, it was the beginning of the end...

so much SQ it's dangerous to listen to...

I don't think so, Fryman never had the BTL boner...

    @ "extreme SQ".
  5. The volume of the air displaced is about it...it's not like 8's are "faster" than 15's, or any myths like that...
  6. Considering it's not the 4th yet, I wouldn't expect anything to be updated now...

Scott's said this before, but the XXX tended to sound more "sterile" because of its very low distortion...some people like this, others don't. The Q is a more "natural" sounding driver...and also is a bit more forgiving with blending to your front stage. The XXX demands a strong midbass presence because of its top end rolloff.
  8. Having your doors properly deadened and all large holes sealed up will allow your midbasses to extend deeper, and perhaps give you more of the upper bass you feel is missing, without trashing the soundstage. CMX's shouldn't have a problem with going that low, but install is everything when it comes to this.
  9. Kent covered everything I had to say
  10. Glad to see who has the attitudes around here... I was confused because I seemed to be getting two different vibes from the thread...one of and the other of Neither the Q nor the SSD has a steep rolloff, I used a 60Hz@24dB/octave crossover point and it sounded fine. Any higher and localization would start to be an issue. What you're describing sounds like a lack of midbass. FWIW.

Yes. Yes. Stay far away from those series of Hifonics amps.

Personally, I'd go with the Q. When I auditioned it, 1kW was plenty.

Can't be emphasized enough. Doing hair tricks or low 150's doesn't automatically happen, it takes a fair bit of understanding about what your vehicle does well with...with such a large cabin to pressurize, nothing's guaranteed.
  14. Out of all the things that determine the final sound, comparing sub amps of a similar design isn't that critical...ours ears are very insensitive in the subbass frequencies anyway. I'd say go with whatever you can afford, or if you want a specific brand to match the front stage amp(s), etc...
  15. I'm totally confused by this thread...
  16. Or nothing is ever cheap when there are suckers willing to pay that much

If you think it stinks now, wait until you cut it
  18. Wilson WATT/Puppy's are more...
  19. Low 140's or upper 140's?
  20. JimJ replied to civicman07's topic in Fi Products
I'd go with the copper coil, honestly, I don't think you'd need any options beyond that.
  21. They have a butyl form out now, IIRC. I still wouldn't give Ben a dime.
  22. I'd choose the RL-p.
  23. Any reason why not? I'd take a KX series over a mid-level Hifonics any day...definitely a ZX over your choices.
  24. I wouldn't hesitate to get the USAmps. Although I'd probably get something used first...
