Did not realize that with digitals, my main camera is/was a Canon AE-1, old school film goodness My first SLR was an A-1, I loved that thing. Well, if you have Canon lenses already, might as well go with that... I miss my Contax and Zeiss stuff

Audiokarma.org is full of vintage junkies that think Kenwood bookshelf speakers with five way supertweets and a big Pioneer receiver is the pinnacle of hi-fi, and look at you funny if you didn't buy your stuff at a yard sale for twenty bucks...not to mention there's a strong legion of cassette tape fanboyz that will swarm when threatened... Audiocircle is nothing but a huge manufacturer's forum, they have a nice open baffle section but that's about it. Audioasylum has the best discussion but their software sucks, you can't track a thread past a few replies before it all gets jumbled. DIYAudio is great but they shun you if you recommend something already assembled. HTGuide, well, if you don't have five channels and a big screen, GTFO. AVS gives me epilepsy.

I'm around... Trying to find another good forum to haunt. Harder than it seems.
  4. Ability to do rated power, excellent build quality... That JL is fine, don't worry about it "Good brands" depend on what your budget at the time is...

I'd recommend Nikon simply because of the lenses. What model you get is going to be based on your budget, but Nikon F-mount lenses can be found anywhere, and usually pretty cheaply. Canon makes some nice higher-end stuff, but their Digital Rebel isn't worth it. The fact that it won't shoot RAW format pretty much kills it there. And Canon lenses are more expensive than their Nikon counterparts, usually. Remember: 1) zoom lenses generally suck, and should only be used if you have absolutely no other choice 2) with digital, your actual focal length is longer than you think...if you slap a lens that was 50mm on 35mm film, it's going to be around 75mm for digital. The sensor's smaller than a frame of 35mm film.

lil' bit... What do you want to know?
  7. You really only have a few things that you can set. Too much bass boost would potentially damage things, as would not setting the input gain correctly. Setting the LPF too high wouldn't damage anything but it'd sound horrible. And unless you have an enclosure tuned very high, having the subsonic filter turned off or set too low usually won't hurt anything with normally-recorded music.

You don't just buy new ones?
  9. Answer's the same as it was in the other thread...

What's sad is...I'm going to basically have something very, very close to that for about a tenth of the price of that. DIY is...FTW.

I think what they fail to realize is, is that even though the programming looks better, you can only polish a turd so far... Watching chit in 1080p is still...well, chit.
  13. I don't think you'd go wrong with either...
  14. JimJ replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
    I'd believe it.

Dude stopped responding to my PMs. Banhammer dropped. It's not like it cost me anything, but it pisses me off that our generation is full of lying snots that serve no purpose.

That's my kinda setup right there. As shown, those speakers are around $12k with the supertweets, $1.5k subwoofer, $1.5k in amps. And rockin' the $250 TV

I've given up for now. It's just too dumb. The last time I was logged on, it was to ban two douchecicles that had an attitude with me on AIM, and the lazy prick who never sent me an Ipod for doing his work for him. I might post on there again later this summer, just to shut up the 60" plasma-and-cube-speaker-crowd that complains I never post pictures of my setup.

Sooooooo much harder to do work when it's not required, vs. when it's the difference between a good grade and a bad one. Little voice in my mind telling me to take my B- and go

I have five pages to write for tomorrow, and I'm exceedingly lazy. Really want to use every advantage to get my overall GPA up this semester, next year's schedule isn't going to help things

It's just sad that most modern music that's commercially successful today is: a ) gangsta rap marketed to white suburbanites b ) whiny "R&B" c ) "rock" sung by men in girl's jeans d ) the same recycled chords and percussion masquerading as "metal"

mayne y0 my subz be hittin hawd dawg I guess the phrase that bothers me is "bumpin' my music". You don't bump music, you listen to it. The only thing that means to me is that the music itself has so little value that the only redeemable thing about it is the loud farting noises.

I've found a slightly damp cloth works fine...
  23. The 9835 is the last Alpine short of the 9860/61 and above that I'd use.
  24. Probably not easily, but nice results.
  25. Totally dependent on your install. Dependent on your install, your taste in music and how picky you are. I don't think you'd have a problem with an amp in the 800-1kW range and a small 50x2 amp for your front stage, as long as you're smart about things...
