For a belt-drive table, they're one of the best values... But there's something about a direct drive like the Technics that I like...maybe it's the fact it weighs 30lbs. and is built to survive a nuclear explosion and not knock the tonearm out of alignment It's much beefier than most "audiophile" tables. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Direct drive = motor noise! You need super ears, and about $50k in equipment but it's there! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> lol The Technics arm also has a really nice vertical tracking angle adjustment, something that Rega makes you pay $250 for or so on the RB-250 or RB-300 tonearms.

Will leave me $450 left over, almost enough to buy a '1200MK2 new from a dealer...think they retail in the $500 range these days without cartridges.
