The SL-1200 is the one used by most DJ's & clubs...the one drawback to it is the tonearm isn't quite as good as a Rega, for example, but I've heard the Technics has a better soundstage and better-defined bass, so we'll see. I'll wait until Guitar Center runs a clearance sale or something, and check it out in person. Would rather buy it authorized & local anyway.

Just read a really good review of the Technics SL-1200 MK2...seriously considering it. It's a thirty year old design that hasn't changed a bit since they introduced it, and it's easily the most common deck in use worldwide...guess they were doing something right. And it's perfectly in my budget, even if I get it locally from a dealer.

Didn't the original have gas mileage in the single digits already?
