New Project: EL84 amplifier clean-up
My latest project. Going to be the amp in my living room, driving a pair of backloaded horns (hopefully). Around 6wpc @ 8 ohms from pentode-connected EL84's. The original amp worked, but it wasn't very pleasing on the eyes - Ugly yellow lettering on the transformer, and the entire amp was covered in fine surface scratches and other discolorations that aren't very noticeable in that over-exposed photo. So after disassembling the tube sockets and front panel, I put masking tape over everything I didn't want painted and put several coats of Rustoleum hammered enamel over it: The tubes I'm using with it...from left to right - British-made EZ81 rectifier, Zenith new-old-stock 12AT7 input tube, and the original black plate EL84/6BQ5 power pentodes...they seem to work for now, but might replace them with newer ones soon. Tomorrow night I'm going to reassemble most of it, need to re-solder some connections and check to make sure all the wiring is intact. More pics as things progress...

At the 'rent's place, on dialup. Just got back from the Rolling Stones...not bad, not bad at all Quite impressed that they put on one hell of a show after all these years. It was a pretty small venue (the Duke football stadium, less than 10,000 people) so even though my seats weren't the best, it really didn't matter that much...the opener was pretty good too.

Well, I'll be there, Dave E will be there (now a member of Team Smoke, hehe), Loyd L. should be there with his new setup, Sean B. with his insanely loud S1 CRX probably will be there, Chad with the 5 15" SX's, Nick M., blah blah...those are the people off the top of my head that I know.

just wondering
If someone made a pair of single-ended solid-state amps, I would be all over that 120VAC. Class A single-ended, one output device per channel. Monoblocks, maybe 10-15wpc. The least amount of negative feedback as possible. Basically, a cheaper version of Nelson Pass' Zen monoblocks. http://www.passdiy.com Spoogerific.

Welcome to the IHoP
The blog forum annoys me...going to get really unwieldy with just one thread per person. Sort of kills all usability if you want to post project logs (which is really the only thing I'm going to use it for). And the color blows. In unrelated news, I like it when people make asses of themselves. Especially when I don't like them

Flip them off, or tailgate them and make them think you're the next Ted Bundy taking a grand tour of the countryside...of course, this works better if you have the right vehicle for it

yep, burbs are good for that i just use my dad's truck now though <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If it was an actual 4x8 it would fit perfectly but they add an inch, totally rubbs on the sides. I'll say this much, it wasnt exactly easy to get in <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmm, my van has at least four feet of clearance between the wheelwells...because I've stacked 4x8 sheets before without any problems. I have about 10 or 11 feet of clearance on the floor with the rear doors closed...

Having to cut MDF to fit it in the truck...*sigh* Oh yeah, I don't have to do that

Damn you people with money... Actually, I have a fair amount in my checking acc't...but most of it is earmarked for things...like the rest of the payment on my new amp, several sheets of baltic ply, new 4.5" drivers, rent, blah blah blah.
