disappointed the 8" I was sacrificing didn't like the Tantrum 1200.1 too well...as to be expected, but didn't blow up very well either. Just sat there, hammering against the backplate sounding like an assault rifle for a little bit, then bit the dust. Oh well. I have pr0n, but woofervids.com isn't working for me for some reason. Uploading a 5meg file on a 56k is the chits.

I kept my reply as civil as I could. If the point is lost on him (which it most likely will be), I couldn't care less. Asshats like that aren't worth my time, except as a source of entertainment. That XXX's future is looking dimmer, I'm thinking he'll pull an Ecko inside of a few weeks now

The guy had extremely poor judgment. Shoot the bastard in the leg - same message, and he lives to learn from it.

  11. And totally kicks ass But for 12VDC, they're tough to implement. That's why 99.9% of all Class A amps you see are going to be used for home audio, where the inefficiency and size penalties don't matter.

Aaron closed LS1Pimp's thread? Too bad, that was getting fun... Oh well, it's only going to be a matter of time before he does it again. "Why did my XXX blow up", anyone? Currently taking bets...

Hell no. Yes, there are some times when begrudgingly, you have to use an Xover (the Klipsch towers being one of them...). However, there's nothing wrong, if the design allows for it, with simply highpassing the tweet with a cap and letting the woofer run full range, if the specs are up to it. That's pretty standard practice for open baffle speakers, and hooking supertweeters to backloaded horns for better high-end response. The point of using a 1st-order Xover is to keep losses due to components to an absolute minimum. I guess he's never worked with amps under 10 watts before

Tom: good article...even though I flagrantly disagree with that guy's opinions on high excursion drivers

Just bothers me I guess when people don't put time into product reviews. Like someone wisely said in that thread, a review could be a potential customers first (and maybe last) exposure to the product. You want to make sure it's damn accurate. The guys over on DIYaudio and Audio Asylum have the art of writing reviews down. You'll never find a "OMG it hitz twice as harrd, d00d" review in there. If they're writing a review about an amplifier, for example, they'd treat the amp as if it were a woman, - sitting down in a quiet place, perhaps a glass of fine wine or the lights dimmed...patiently listening, extracting every ounce of sonic pleasure that has to be gleaned from it. Writing a review is something that takes time, time getting to know the product...it's quirks, it's preferences...When it comes time to record their thoughts, you can tell that time has been put into it, and whether they loved or hated what they heard, there's a respect for the process. Now that I'm getting long-winded, it's time to go to bed.

I thought that thread needed a little humor. That, or deletion.
  20. Taught's spelled with an "a". Welcome aboard.
  21. Allows you to install a larger gauge power wire - I know of no factory fuseboxes that will allow 150-200a current draws with the stock wiring. Won't happen. Just wire it directly to the battery...your electrical system will thank you for it.
