Dammit, the 350 was the twin, not the four Still may make an offer, won't be anywhere near what it'd be worth if it was the 350F though. And the seller of the 550 four I was looking at obviously thinks this qualifies as "excellent condition": Bad photo or not, that tank looks like it's lived a hard life...

Grounding will be specific to your local codes. How far away from the main breaker are you and exactly what all are you doing? Don't worry too much about voltage drop, with AC you usually get a 10V swing either direction. Size your wire according to amperage and you'll be fine. I was an electrician for 10 years, just so you know. You can go to your local book store, or Lowes, HD, or Menards and pick up and Ugly's Book. http://www.uglys.net/ Including the distance going up and down walls, I'm probably looking at an 80-foot run between the 200A main panel and the outbuilding. The only loads will be a fluorescent light unit and a quad box for power tools, I wanted to have them on different breakers so he won't be in the dark with a tool still spinning if he manages to trip it.
  3. I wrote a review of the first version of the RD Alpha 12"...I know it's over on CarAudio.com, I believe it was re-posted here as well. With the price of the Mag coming down from where it was when I wrote that, the RD is even less of a value than it was then. I'd pass.

Damn, pretty sure I missed a pristine CB350... This checking-four-Craigslists-at-a-time shit gets annoying. Why is it only when you're not looking does the good stuff get posted, when you're religiously checking them every day it's the same old shit
  5. I don't think there's a consensus or standard on that, nor would it really matter
  6. Actually, the only FM station worth listening to around here is a classical station Are you sure the drivers are actually at fault here, or is it you? Psychoacoustics is a powerful thing...hell, it's the reason there's a big aftermarket cable industry out there...

Are there any good references for 120VAC home wiring, something like BCAE except for 120? I'm doing a simple, two-circuit outbuilding next weekend but I'd like to have a reference just to make sure what I'm thinking of doing isn't totally stupid in terms of sizing things...for example, I have some numbers in my head like a 2% allowance for voltage drop in power conductors but I'm not entirely sure if that's even right or not. Also not sure what they want for grounding...I can think of more exciting ways to spend a Saturday than pounding 10 feet of copper into clay
  8. Well, your point is still valid although that "people's choice" shit is for mongoloids, as Sean put it It was previously mentioned in here, 90% install. Although I like Ramos' version and put the 5% beer in there
  9. That was mentioned previously in this same thread
  10. Impossible to know that for sure.
  11. S/N and THD are not the magic numbers some make them out to be, and in addition I'd rather have a setup that measures worse but has the proper Xover slopes and points than one that has amazing S/N and THD values but is set up wrong But you're right, it's your ears so I don't know what you're hearing
  12. I don't know of anyone using just clay as the entire spacer, usually you'd want to use something solid for the actual spacer such as MDF or plywood, then use clay on where it meets the door and all around the outer ring...but the speaker isn't screwed into clay only
  13. What's that supposed to mean With that small of a collection (comparatively), he obviously has some albums that are probably recorded very well and really show the technical ability of the gear. You don't even need to have a very high resolution setup to begin to realize that a lot of mainstream, modern music technically is awful, not even talking about the quality of the music itself but just the production values
  14. So you're running a Morel 3-way set but using CDT passive crossovers? Eh...problem #1 there. Setting up a three-way set is not a task for someone getting into this kind of thing.
  15. For someone who's looking to get very accurate subbass, one 12" is really all that's needed in a vehicle. I have a huge cabin and when I listened to it I had output to spare if so desired...I could fit a 100 cubic foot enclosure if I wanted to, but a 1 cube sealed enclosure with the Mag was all that was needed. At home, multiple smaller drivers in stereo can be easier to integrate than a single one, anyway, so it's a win there as well

    Apparently passed 17k posts, woot.

Although I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable on a 175cc scrambler going down the highway, either

Seems to be the going price around here for them too. If I were you Jim, I would get no bigger than 500 to start off. It will get great mileage, and be faster than you could ever want. Lighter = easier for you to handle. Remember there are times you need to move it around with the motor off. I'm not coming down to blacksburg to get a bike off of you 'Twas what I was thinking as well. I bet I won't appreciate the extra hundred pounds the 750 adds if I'm stuck underneath it Won't take much to move my 150lbs around, not looking to go fast anyway but just fast enough not to get killed on 460 or 220

Might as well go for a set of Viking horns at that point

Assless chaps. (yes, I know by definition chaps are assless anyway, I just wanted to say it.)

Found a CB550F about an hour from here that's in really, really clean shape...owner wants a little more than I'm willing to pay now though. There's a 750F that's basically next door to me that's in my budget, but I'm still hesistant about a 750...both for my size and the MPG compared to the smaller fours
  23. Thanks for saying what I was thinking
  24. Didn't say that, just that I don't put the phrases "daily pounding", "groundpounder" and "accuracy" together, usually
