hot magnet?
Are you hearing distinct distortion? If the answer's no, and you know you're sending the driver a safe RMS voltage...then no, you're fine. Heat buildup in the motor is quite common, with ferrite you don't have to worry about heat quite as much as other magnet materials...

wsup with the BL
Thank you for saying that Every reviewer is biased in some way...the trick is knowing what that reviewer is looking for and try to find good reviews from people whose listening tastes and expectations most closely match up with yours

6k RMS, which subs to get?
If you're never planning on entering a sanctioned competition, I'd go with more cone area.

i wish our president had the balls to say this
No, but we can't forget it either, because there are a lot of people out there that haven't. Someone should have told Bush that before using words like "crusade" as a casual remark in speeches...that's getting into other issues, though As long as we have a don't-ask-don't-tell policy when it comes to below-minimum wage jobs in this country, we won't have a moral leg to stand on in this debate. We can pine about how we'd all like to make a language requirement a reality, but as long as employers are hiring people for illegal wages this will continue. And no wall or over-the-top rhetoric is going to stop it.

I wonder if the Aboriginies had those same rights that are being so loudly claimed, as they were forced into assimilate into mainstream Australian culture Maybe they should have told the Europeans off. I agree that immigrants into the US need to learn English. My grandparents had to out of necessity. But bugging mosques is 100%, balls-out frightening. Every time I hear that the US is a "Christian nation", it makes me sick - because really, if you look at the religious beliefs of the people who founded it, they were Deists if anything Who were well aware of what happens when the state and religion get too closely mixed... Good old homegrown Christianity has produced its share of wackos, why aren't we monitoring the Baptist church on the corner? Or for that matter, agnostics or atheists...hell, they might be Commies too... I jest, but that sounds as silly as the quoted article.

How would you brace this box?
Lots of bracing perpendicular from large, unsupported walls - "swiss cheese" style. Now, if you're concerned about SPL numbers and not about making it as acoustically dead as possible, that's different...

so I decided to get back into web development
If I still had the Contax I'd give it a shot But I bet there's a setting to tweak the white balance on Dave's camera, and scrouge a tripod from somewhere

Welcome to the IHoP
Lol sounds like a hell of a time. What are the tests for? Some kind of radio certification? http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/license-requirements.html I passed the General class exam today, I'll take the Extra exam in a few weeks.

time to upgrade highs
By "highs", do you mean just tweeters? Or everything above subbass?
-
Welcome to the IHoP
Well, off to pass the FCC's bullshit test... Although the next one is going to be more fun...representing impedance in polar coordinates, calculating Q's of RLC circuits...yay

Welcome to the IHoP
Mmmm, sounds like a hell of a night to me. Last time I had Glenlivet involved me drinking about 3/4 a liter of liquor, it was a hell of a night. Don't remember half of it, but what the hell. I haven't bought bottled liquor in NC in a while, I've forgotten how much cheaper it is than VA...Laphroaig was $45 a 1/5th, this could be dangerous. I don't think they had Glenmorangie, though...

Welcome to the IHoP
Party tomorrow night over on a friend's 30 acres outside of town, should be interesting. Bringing a cooler full of stout and a small bottle of Glenlivet, I plan on at least getting shitfaced tastefully

so I decided to get back into web development
I love it, although I'm on 56K at the moment and nobody's going to wait the time it took to load, so having a low-bandwidth option would have to be needed on a splash page All-Flash looks really slick, but for a general page that gets thrown out there where you don't know what your potential visitors might have, I'd be a little worried about usability.

How does a sub play 10 hz when..
Personally, I always think to myself how annoying those people are. In a vehicle, isn't it just easier to go sealed or IB? There's already a massive amount of cabin gain that isn't there in a room...heck, even in a room I'd rather have IB and a lot of swept area over a very low tuned enclosure...
-
So I downgraded...sorta??
Just curious, have you heard the Icon sealed or IB? I have a feeling you'll be really pleased at what it can do then
-
i sent a email
No, I have no idea what you're talking about.
-
What has the greatest effect on.....
"Low bass" is a really general term, it depends on how low you're talking about...for me, it's basically subsonic...so in a typical vehicle environment that pretty much rules out ported enclosures. This is music dependent, but for me trying to reproduce the lowest registers of a pipe organ, contrabass or anything that really gets down past the threshold of hearing requires IB or sealed to sound realistic in a vehicle. Agreed completely Although if low bass is really a priority I'd still try a sealed or IB arrangement before anything else...

Welcome to the IHoP
I can die without eating a rare asparagus, but one day there's a place in DC that serves a $175 five-course fugu dinner. Now that stuff I'd be curious about.

Welcome to the IHoP
Going fanless or silent fans is a bigger priority anyway. Dell didn't design these things to be quiet, that's for sure...

Welcome to the IHoP
I'm starting to hear that Vista has markedly improved audio over XP, although I don't think my music machine will run it...even if I maxed out the RAM to 4GB, it's stil a 2.4gig P4 Foobar w/ ASIO & XP sound good enough for now, I guess...

Tips for building good boxes
I doubt you'll have much, if any problems with standing waves in a subwoofer enclosure.

Boston acousticl
If the first question is about how loud they can get, they're not for you.

Anyone near Richmond Virginia ???????
I'm about two hours south of Richmond off of 85, but I have nothing that's up your alley

Icon 10" box ideas
I'd prefer them sealed...
