using nut and bolt
I'd probably use stainless hardware to resist corrosion, but it's a good technique if you're just using bare wire or spade terminals instead of banana plugs.

Welcome to the IHoP
Hate to break it to you, but the BIB is a horn I've never done anything audio-wise on a boat, only thing I've dealt with is radio gear - and a sailboat is a damn perfect place for a mobile HF radio setup Run the antenna up the mast, RF counterpoise along the mainstay, there's a nice enclosed cabin for the radio...but then again on anything ocean-going not having a reliable shortwave setup is really stupid...

Welcome to the IHoP
Really the only viable option if high efficiency is a concern, the Jordan JX92 is a little pig for power compared to the Fostexes (Fostexi?) Or there's always the baller option of Lowther

Welcome to the IHoP
Had a half hour or so of flash-flood type rain this afternoon, so that kind of killed plans to cut the grass tomorrow...even with turf-ish tires I'll end up tearing things up if I went out there with the tractor...

Future Amplifiers
hmmm? Or could be combined with a small two-channel from another line, would be a nice little combo for 2-way active

Welcome to the IHoP
The Seas high-efficiency 8" is a thing of beauty, but I'd still be scared shitless cutting the whizzer off of it

Sub trouble... need help please
It'll be cheaper to buy a new one than to try to find replacement soft parts. But I'd try to find out how much power you're actually sending those woofers, 4 years isn't what I'd call "decently" old.

Welcome to the IHoP
Consider yourself lucky. I take my dad to a high-end audio shop, he walks away thinking..."When are you going to build something like that for ME?" Nevermind the fact that I don't think he's forgiven me for letting him use the Decware Zen in his office for a little while and then selling it...

How good or bad are US AMPS compared to other high end amps
Considering how readily available the older stuff is on the used market, I would probably go with that before any of the new production.

SQ Competitions in Eastern NC
Mostly MECA shows out in SW VA...Martinsville, Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, etc. There used to be a USAC show in Roanoke Rapids, NC, that's about as far east as I know of. Not sure if that one is even still being held. The only "local" organization I know of is "NCSPL", which offers an SQ portion, though I've never been to one of their shows so I couldn't tell you anything about it. MECA divides its classes by what you've done to the vehicle, so if all of your drivers are in stock locations, you'd be in stock. Add kickpods, you'd be in modified. Cut any metal, you're in Modex...etc, etc. Any national org like MECA, USAC or IASCA has their rules posted online.

Going to be ordering single 15. SSD or Q?
I liked the Q sealed with about 800W...

Would a USA 50 do any good for a 10inch sub?
Would depend on the sub and the space available for an enclosure
-
Signal processing options
My vote would be for the dbx Driverack, personally

Welcome to the IHoP
Most of the stereo stuff I want comes from the EU anyway, so being entirely in Euros would help me out a ton

The future of SPL
I basically made the same effort for that as competing in SPL with a sealed box Cawnbread...biscuits...mmmhmm

Welcome to the IHoP
Hmm, go to measure some of these 7AH gel-cells I've had laying around for a while, and they're all reading over 18V...not so good...

2 10's vs 1 12
Honestly, I believe with your cabin size, a regular, plain sealed enclosure for two 12's will fit your needs. Extension down to 25Hz easy, and no enclosure "designing" needed

help with home theater build
For a grand, I'd rather have a pair of relatively high efficiency floorstanders and a decent vintage integrated amp, plus a sub, than any mass-produced shit made today. A pair of Klipsch Cornwalls or Choruses would use about half of that budget with a little careful hunting around Craigslist, and all you'd need for power is a decent integrated from NAD, Rotel, Marantz, or others...doubt the difference from a low-end surround setup is going to be that noticeable, if anything you'd appreciate the efficiency of better speakers anyway during parties.

Best sub for under 200?
IIRC, the Tempest-X was around that price. I assume you aren't really going for SQ with that user name, though...

Any beer snobs here?
Porter & stout fan here. There's a couple decent microbreweries in Chapel Hill that I go to every now and then...because the pub selection sucks. Can't even get Guinness on tap. Now, when I go to DC there's a couple places that have a better selection, even know how to do the shamrock-in-the-head thing Usually if I'm buying commercial beer it's Guinness, Stella Artois or maybe a chocolate stout...

Welcome to the IHoP
In VA, it's a hell of a deal... And trying to load SSA on 56k is getting pointless. When I can play an entire game of Freecell between page loads...

The future of SPL
The P9 has a great EQ...Dave has not touched it in this install Time alignment, yes, but since you can always refer to the manual to learn how to do it I'd hardly think that's something "difficult". Very true, the enjoyment of SQ happens in the vehicle, not outside. I happen to think that's a good thing

Welcome to the IHoP
I kind of saw it coming... I wanted to see how it was going to end in a bad wreck?? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I was about to say, I don't know exactly, but I bet it'll involve lots of crumpled metal

my system
6kW, multiple component sets, a competition alternator, "blast sum bass"... And best SQ? This just keeps getting more confusing as it progresses
