I wouldn't use McIntosh for home theater, anyway

A valid point, sometimes even the artists themselves don't really know what the song sounds like until they listen to it on the summed output...examples are what Tull did with some tracks for Aqualung, or some Floyd recordings, or a lot of modern artists that resort to "click tracks"...personally I think true stereo recording has some benefits that multitrack will never have, but that's a discussion for elsewhere... But even in that case, SQ is all about getting the instruments to sound like they actually do in real life. This is why going to concerts is so critical if you're into this sort of thing, I think - not only because of the musical connection and interaction that even the best stereo system can't give you, but also because unless you're actually familiar with the way the instruments sound, trying to judge how a stereo reproduces them is going to be difficult to impossible. SQ to me is about closing my eyes and seeing that drummer swish the brushes...or that muted trumpet player who's sitting next to the bass player, and hearing the resonances in the upright bass that you'd actually hear if you were listening to one in real life.

I can see that holding a coherent discussion with you is going to be impossible.

I've never understood watching poker on TV. Playing it is one thing, but watching it is like watching people play Xbox - I miss the attraction...

MY time with the new Mag.
I'd agree with Ryan on his answer, too... But power handling is not very important to me.

Phoenix Gold and Arc Audio also make crossovers that can be found inexpensively on Ebay or the forums.

Finished my First Tube Project!
I've had good luck with Caig DeOxit. Looks good And it's either P2P wiring or dealing with PCB traces, and I'd take point to point any day over that

Mac amps are built extremely well. They're the kind of gear that if you take care of it, it'll last for decades. A lot of them already have I would say that efficiency wins, IMO

Regardless of what anyone likes, I still don't support people playing their setup in a way that causes physical damage to themselves and others. You might not like dB Drag, but having all of those "mids and highs" is far more damaging to your hearing and the hearing of those around you than pure subbass is. Not that working on a fart machine without proper hearing protection is a smart idea, either.

watts
In the very early days of audio, amplification was very expensive. There were very low powered amps because that's all people could get, push/pull amps that didn't require massive transformers or output devices that stayed on 100% during the amplification cycle weren't invented until later. So given that you only had a handful of watts to work with for most amps, very high efficiency designs were king... Those speakers were pulls from a movie theater from the 1950's, so they had to be able to be room-filling with pretty modest amplifiers. The horns on them are over 110dB/W efficient, the woofers are over 100dB/W. I'm running 8 watts for my apartment setup, the speakers are 96dB/W but the speakers are taller than I am in order to get good bass response, and even at 8 watts the amps weigh 40lbs. each. Most people in audio have no idea how commoditized (not a word, but it should be) power has become

what he said. i'm surprised you were even arrested. questioned sure, but anything more? not unless you aren't telling us the whole story, or she has some really good connections (ie: police chief's daughter) wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee What's that old adage about "military intelligence"...

Unfortunately, it's your word against hers, unless one of you had a recorder going neither of you can prove either Sit down with your lawyer and hers, this really doesn't have a good chance of ever seeing a courtroom.

Welcome to the IHoP
Wow. Yesterday I heard some interesting things...pair of Audio Note Quest 2A3 monoblocks, AN two-way speakers that sounded amazing, an original Jensen Imperial Horn, pair of restored Western Electric push/pull theater amplifiers, Clearaudio turntables, and these: http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/amps_m...aku-on_01.shtml If anyone's in the DC area, you need to check out Deja Vu Audio. Some really good stuff...I was drooling.

Q vs. anything
On the contrary, why do you think there's so many "My wife won't let me keep these speakers" for sale ads out there? It's not because of the sound, that's for sure

Propolusion Choice of the future
True, but just because we can, does it mean we should? I guess it depends on the technology, I'd be all for more offshore wind farms that some people are opposed to, but drilling in national wildlife refuges is a little meh... The crisis is that the old business model is basically holding us hostage to a corporate system that's going to keep charging and charging us. If large amounts of people broke off from that, we'd have some very interesting results... This isn't related to vehicles per say, but the cost of energy in general is making a lot of renewables suddenly very affordable. The last time I was at my folks' place, we spec'ed out a recirculating solar hot water system, at current propane rates ($3.50/gal) it'd pay for itself in five years. And that's only going to get better.
