Sounds like your install is wired a litte "weird". Amps usually go into protect if the ohm load is too low. Are you sure you didn't wire the ID8 wrong and wire it to 2 ohms instead of 8? That would explain a lot.

What are you looking for out of your system? Do you want loud bass? Or do you want Sound Quality? or do you want both? As far as how you want them facing.. that is entirely car dependent. It changes based upon how the car is built, so thats something you'll have to test and see what sounds best.

who makes a reasonable priced amp that puts out 2k rms at 2 ohms besides the zx2500.1 why do you "need" 2000rms? you don't always have to use exact power. On another note the Sundown SAX-3000D puts out 1600w @ 2ohms. and according to this link indicates with the proper power system, you should be just under 2k watts RMS on 2 ohms. Or maybe even at 2k. who knows.

What voice coils did you get?

The sundowns are not warranted to .5 ohms. You better know what you're doing if you plan on running it that low. Just buy an amp that will put out the power you need at 2 ohms. That should be less of an electrical draw on your system and will be safer than running an amp out of warranty at .5 ohms.

It also may be cheaper to use a 15" basket for the recone vs the 18" recone.

for some reason overpowering bass and RL-s 15" don't go hand in had for me. Thats like trying to fit giant off road tires on a civic.

You better not use the same box for both of them.. Each one uses different specs to determine total enclosure size and port size. You can't just build one box that "might" work for one but not the other and expect them to compete for your attention so to speak.

Only thing I forsee as a problem is the fact that the RL-i is probably a lot deeper than the infinity driver he used. You may have to come out into the cargo area quite a ways to accomodate it.

Thirdly, Yes you could connect the two subs like this: BUT you need to realize that each one has a different power handling and each one needs a different box size. Not only does the JL sound completely different from the Alpine.. you're going to be sending less than nominal power to both of them. Aside from the fact that it IS going to sound like butt (if you try to tell me it isn't, then you have not heard a good system.. EVER), you're going to get cancellation of sub-freq waves like crazy. My suggestion to you: Run one or the other. OR sell everything you have, do some reading around here and buy something better (and most likely cheaper) for your car. What you're trying to do is ghetto at best. It sounds like you want to be impressive with your sound.. but in trying to use everything you own, you will generally be looked upon as a n00b.
