well...hell.. i just got home from helping my bro-in-law have his dog put to sleep. his dog was a 70pd pitbull named BigBoy. he was 1/2 of his breeding pair. he was just about 18 months old. he was poisoned. they have been trying to keep him alive for the last 4 days, but the brain damage was too much. he was just zoned out and almost turned on the family twice. my b-i-l, couldn't watch. they are going to do an autopsy later this weekend to find the actual cause of the brain damage. there is an outside chance it's rabies, but the vet thinks poison because bigboy's skin was just falling off. yeah, his skin. he's in a better place now..no more pain. on a lighter note... we are doing a custom install in a 2004 gto...all memphis sq componets, m class subs and a big belle to push it all. well, long story short, a customer was in the bay while i was working on his car. he looks at the gto and see's the big belle strapped across the fuel tank and asks what we are doing to the car. after a quick tour, he asks why the subs aren't inthe trunk...so i tell him.. "behind that amp there is the gas tank." me "gas tank? what's that for?" him *shakes head in disbelief* me " it's the gas tank." me "yeah, what's that for?" him *does a quick doubletake and is completely dumbfounded* me " it's where u put the fuel for the car" me " oh..oh yeah.." him everybody in the shop is looking at me looking at him.. true story..i will swear on any stack of bible's or whatever u hold dear... here's his sign" i guess it shouldn't have been any surprise he had just bought the store special...two 12" sony subs (the black coned ones) and a pre-fabbed sealed box...$99 wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

IMO, facing doesn't change the sq as much as it changes the spl. especially if it's a well built enclosure. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

if all the hype is true, the atlas would be a good one...but it's compareable to an rl-i from what i have read. of course, the rl-p is a good one..lol wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

ok, with those internal dimensions, u have 3.6ft^3..however, ur going to lose some for the subs and the port....and u won't need any bracing..it's overrated. unless u plan on dumping 5000wrms daily, the box isn't going to flex enough u'll ever hear it. gimme a few minutes, i'll whip a lil magic up..lol... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i see where my recommendation was confusing, i was quoting half the power but recommending the full enclosure..oops! my suggestion, since ur after a 70/30 split or so, with 1500wrms for the pair, is 3.3-3.5ft^3, 40-42in^2 of port tuned to 34hz. that will give u solid output while maintaining excellent sq. at the most, i'd recommend a tuning of 38hz..lil more output up top with out sacrificing all ur sq. oh yeah, that's a combined net volume..lol...and also what denim said.. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

well, mike suggests between 1.5-2ft^3 per sub with a minimum of 20in^2 of port per sub and a vent fb of 34hz. with 750wrms, i'd suggest somewhere in the neighborhood of 3ft^3, 36-40in^2 of port tuned to 32-34hz. if mike doesn't get here quick enough u can... email [email protected] with what ur are trying to get, he'll have a lil more insight as to what size enclosure will work best... if u have any more questions, hollar... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

hey, just thought i'd drop a note in here about another one of my reply's...lol...nothing in anger however.. i have been busy, so i haven't had a chance to build any boxes..tomorrow evening looks to be the first good chance of that happening.. i too look forward to seeing how the subs stack up ported, larger sealed and with more power. i have left the xxx in the car (against the wife's wishes) and i will say, it gets loud, it sounds clean, but it is lacking on the bottom end. i have been beating the hell outa of it too..as evidenced by the now blown right front factory speaker..lol anyway..i'm off to check out a new install... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

as i sit here and think about what's going on at ca.com, the more i realize that it does no good to try to do something worthwhile on the internet. especially in car audio. fudge..i dunno what i was expecting. 4 years ago, i got started at ca.com..and from ppl like zane (below reality), jlaine, denim and ramos (off the top of my head) i learned somethings. like just how important an enclosure is. how a ported box can sound just as good as sealed. how equipment is just a piece of the puzzle,not the answer. eD was the company who's coattails u wanted to ride on. i remeber talking to ben trying to figure out how to get a pair of 8's to replace my hx2's.then it was adire and the brahma.all tha xmax and xbl^2..rewrote some thing.they are still going strong..kudo's to the DW crew. then it was stereo integrity. the magnum was the chit. again, like Adire, nick and SI has stood the test of time, hats off to them for a great product that i'll probably never get to hear. now it's re...and u better not flame the xxx...sheesh...IA and SS stand in line for the next wave of internet godliness..as does PowerBass and acendant(help me out here) subs..hopefully these last four will be more like adire and si....i know mike and SS will try. man, how things change...it's all about who can flame who over what brand...over whatever they can. and god forbid someone mentions a sub isn't great in all applications. i guess some of the early, good lessons are forgot on the ones with strappable crowns' and ho alts and 4 yellow tops. now it's power cures all....don't sound good? throw twice it's rms at it. wait? it didn't play as low? u underpowered it by 50%. oh it was in a bigger box then recommended? the efficiency offered by such an enclosure won't help the sub..u gotta throw a flux capacitor at it to make it sing. a sub is only as good as it's rms rating now..wow.... i guess u really can't teach an old dog new tricks, because i just ain't buying today's theory. i still believe the enclosure is 85% of the install. product and power (including the vehicle's ability to substain it)make up 10% of the rest..the other 5%, to quote one of the great ones from the past, is beer. lol..i've always liked that. oh i guess i 'll calm down and return to the land of the internet. i still have to complete that review for the power people. and maybe there is some truth to their arguement, i'll know soon enough. and i'll say this...10 to 1 says i'll admit i was wrong before they will. so when that is done, i believe i am too. i'll check into all the forums from time to time, but i think i'm just going to do car audio for me. no more enclosures, no more helping people design enclosures..just be a selfish internet hermit. whatcha all think? i don't think i'll be missed either...nah..ca.com doesn't deserve this little editorial..one of you guys can copy and paste it, if u so choose. it'll just get flamed anyway..lol so to that, i add.. and a few and for those happy to see this and one last wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee see ya around the forums...i'm out
