Well, when you drop something down each impedance the output voltages raise on the mosfets ( I believe) they only handle a certaint amount, when you drop it lower they can only take so much.. So they blow.. And it's a easy thing to see

I think an SA 12 would be the best.. Smaller box sizes will take up less cargo area.. be fairly loud and sound very good. LOC's are... Okay at best even a budget HU would be better than a LOC something like This headunit would be a good budget one... as for wiring harness and dash kit you'll need are these Dashkit and Wiring Harness. So all together it's not too expensive.. does she have premium sound or anything else like that? And if you order through sonicelectronix they're free!

What RCA's are you using? I had RF RCA's and they needed to be tweaked every so often with my Alpine HU. Check your +'s and -'s with a DMM check it at your front battery and then at your rear battery if you have one then at the terminal of your amplifiers.

And it looks as if you will have to build the box around the sub, so the fumes could effect it. yes some fumes can cause the rubber to weaken... thats why you use fume free sealants.
