  1. I don't use an mp3 player in the gym. I just walk around in the gym without a smile on my face ... like I'm going to kill someone or that I hate the world. It doesn't make me any friends, but nobody says a word to me and I love it. The odd time I'll get a kid ask about an exercise I'm doing, and so long as I am in my rest period, I'll explain what they need to know. When I'm doing heavy deadlifts or something similar and I'm doing my pre-lift mental visualization of the actual lift, stay the f!ck out of my way. That is one of the rare occasions that I will tell someone off. Or when someone uses iron plates on the wooden platforms that clearly say "rubber plates only" on them in big blue letters. When people stare or when people do stupid shit in the gym, I take that and it fuels me to push myself harder. I'll let you go right ahead and do the clean and jerk dead wrong ... I don't care if you screw up your elbows and wrists because of it ... you were too dumb to ask for help and learn the proper form in the first place. I will come off as cocky and use the platform beside you, take a light weight, do the proper form, and put everything away ... even on a non-olympic day ... only to watch them do the exact same thing day after day. I gave you your chance and you didn't take it.
  2. Wow, PCR analysis ... it has been a LONG time since I have had to deal with that. I can't really remember how to deal with the results. Are you measuring yield and reaction quality or using the results to determine something genetic? Remembering all that stuff now ... I really do not miss it.
  3. 40% of my job is teaching/office hours/marking. 60% is broken down into: - 50% research/publications/helping grad students - 10% being on boards, volunteering, community work That last 10% sucks because it means I should attend some plays and other activities. I'm writing a column on the architecture of Spain/Portugal right now. This is the one time I will say: I'd raher be marking.
  4. Not very often. They can be a pain in the ass to install and an even bigger pain in the ass to get your ears to like their sound. Took me forever to tune them and even then I wound up seeking help. I'll probably be going away from my HLCD units soon.
  5. I finally have been able to take one day off from entering the gym. But I still do some minor exercises at home on that day just for something to do.
  6. I need to learn how to relax or I may run into some problems pretty quick. I can't do this dog shit muscle relaxation or yoga stuff. The gym used to be relaxing, now it is work.
  7. Young enough to not have Alzheimers.
  8. Brought up Yahoo! to search for something but by the time it loaded and I went to type something I completely forgot what I wanted to look up. Unbelievable.
  9. Hell yeah - but cutting out and/or replacing certain foods/'food products' you should notice some changes. If you do not notice now, you will still thank yourself later for making the changes. Ensure that you still have some fat in your diet ... your body does need it. Even a "starving college student" can make wise choices and actually save money in the long run just by changing their eating habits and by cutting their hair and shaving
  10. Way past my bedtime.
  11. It makes sense since they release their last shoe (above) for Athens. But, with that new shoe comes a premium price, I'm sure.
  12. I have heard that Adidas will release a new weightlifting shoe in December of this year, in which case I would just wait until then and get the new version. However, naturally ... I'm unable to confirm that
  13. We'll see what they decided to charge me for shipping. Shipping within the US is $12.00, so if it is much more than that, maybe I'll see if I can have them shipped to one of you and then passed on up here.
  14. Have to pick up a pair of those out of WA. Don't know my size, so hopefully whomever I speak with on Monday or Tuesday will allow me to send a cutout of my foot. Otherwise, I'll have to guess based on my dress shoe size.
  15. With the Canadian dollar doing this well, I should be cleaning up and buying a lot of stuff from the US.
  16. The blackout feature on my Alpine units is a nice bonus. I drove four hours in the dark tonight and it was sure nice with the display cut out. Almost hit a cougar. Boy, that would have made a nice blanket or rug.
  17. '08 CTS. I'm looking hard ... for something in that price range.
  18. I put the winter tires on today. 5-6" of snow already.
  19. Looks ok. Basic 5x5 program with some filler shit. I wouldn't waste my time with bicep cable curls, tricep press downs, and machine pull-downs. Pull ups (overhand/pronated grip) and close grip bench press ... seem to be better choices. I'm laughing at the idea of giving that program to someone with none/little training experience and watching them try to do dumbbell presses on the stability ball.
  20. My hamstrings are so tight that self myofascial release nearly makes me cry from the pain of rolling over a knot Higher reps such as that can be used as an aid in rehab of tendonitis. I have done something similar for my wrists/forearms.
  21. I think I am finally able to use the 2007 MS Office software without swearing every fifteen seconds. Well, Excel, Word, and PP anyway ... I have not even looked at Access, Groove, InfoPath, OneNote or Publisher yet.
  22. Of course I'm talking about art/music/drama.
  23. You can't explain anything that is in the head of an art major.
  24. I got the students to group themselves today and asked each group for one similarity and one difference between the parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system. I was getting great answers until I got to the group in the back. When I asked them for their difference, there was a long pause and I asked again - "Can you give me a difference between the parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions?" One group member spoke up and said: "Spelling." Nearly shit myself laughing.
