I don't know how you guys build so cheap , in wood alone my current box has cost me 250 euro's (so approx 300 dollar) what does a sheet of 1inch thick mdf cost in the US ? and 3/4 primed hardwood multiplex ?

marine subs cant take any water too , the cone can , the rest is just as vounerable ask Nick or Scott if the cone could be treated to make it more waterresistant ...

if you added some mdf to go from the port to the backplate to support that around the middle you'd be golden !

anyone got the "RTA audio analizer" from RadonSoft free or payd for version for android ? the way you have to calibrate the free version is just stupid .................

why not use the port for bracing ?adding a few pieces of MDF to connect the top and bottom plate on the port , easy enough , almost no consuption of space and effective , using the port to connect front and back plate and baffle would also be very effective , no need for those dowels

you got to go and listen to the BOSE ( I know) headphones , the rest depends on what the shape of your ears is ...I find a lot of headphones very uncomfortable .. so at least go to the shop and go listen to them ... note : Maybe you should look for pro dj gear or studio stuff ............

try to run the coils seperately on a low level ... maybe maybe coil configuration got screwed up and is one + actually a - and vice versa or you did something wrong yourself wireing the sub ...

Definitely not a full ranger buyer then. Glad you pointed that out. The Premier PRS units crossovers are stellar for a 2 way and my personal choice. @M5 : could you elaborate on why a 3inch full-ranger would not do wel on high volume playing paired with a 7 or 8 inch bassdriver, would depend on the full-range driver and x-over settings would't it ? There are quite a bit full-rangers that can take a fair amount of power crossed at 200 / 250hz

I like my Peerless 830987 drivers , but it will take some EQing to get the top end to sparkle

You won't know if you don't try ! still go listen to some comps ... get the 3way and go active and rebuild it in the car as many times as you want to get the sound right .

best and first advice : go listen to some comps first . for sq I'd take the RE XXX of the list , the Focal access series of focal isn't all that eighter , morels sound great but take note that the Elate's and Hybrid ovation like small boxes and aren't really made to play in car-doors so a bit of extra building is required (woth it by all means) . higher lines of Hertz , Focal , Rainbow ,Dynaudio are all good choices I really like the Focal K2power line , but is a tad outside your budget . and this is a PERSONAL PREFERENCE but one I'd like to share ; I pracically never look at the phaseplug models ,often the midrange is better but at the expence of kickbass

I"ve done builds with the chaos for myself and others , it really is a very good sounding sub that can be made to go very loud in the right enclosure .

this got waaaay offtopic . a good woofer is a good woofer , dont care who build it . for sq : an enclosure that allows the woofer to extend down sufficiantly and as flat as possible ,terminate the cars peak resonance without eq' ing as much as possible , getting your car free of any resonances that make you locate the sub , if you can't fully accomplish that, mount the woofer up front . sounds easy ? just eq'ing everything out will make your system sound like shit so it comes down to craftsmanship , good ears , time, a good rta and actually knowing how the music in question is supposed to sound like. that extra 100 bucks spend on a woofer really is secondary did the topicstarter find his woofer ?
