Is that NET volume or gross volume? How much port areea, and to what is it tuned to? Because the BTL doesn't sounds loud enough to you doesn't means it's not getting the 1700 watts.

Yes it does matters, make sure the ground and power wire is the same size. If it get's to 41.xx Volts, then the gain is set correctly. It's you're install that is not good enough, or it's the car that it's in. NO need to turn it up past 41.23V, that's when it will clip.(maybe you're already clipping a little bit, because of voltage drop but that doesn't really matters.) In what box is the BTL? Is it a trunk install?

That would be a bad way to set up a full range amp. The amp doesn't puts out power equally throughout the whole freqeuncy range. (certainly not if u still have a subsonic on )

You will only get that freqeuncy response in the open air, not in a car or in a room.

Maybe you lost db's because you're peak tone changed.

Right. I'd suggest getting the amp you want now. You can always dial down a 2000 watt amp to put out 1000 watts if that's all that your electrical system can handle, and that's easily gauged by monitoring the voltage as notorious pointed out. I think if you go into the situation realizing that if you turn up the volume and allow your voltage to sag too far that you can easily blow the amp, you'll be more careful going into it . It can easily be done safely, however. And also the speakers.
