Sealing enclosure
A nice thick bead of TiteBond 2 wood glue will lock them seams up tight. Just squeeze a bead down the joint and spread it smooth with your finger. Do the horizontal seams first then after about 15-20 minutes (providing it's above 70 degrees) tip the enclosure up on it's side and do the other seems. (so the unglued vertical seam is now horizontal) To finish off just repeat the process until all seams are glued up nice. Happy sealing

Cork?
Cork.........Waste of time and money I.M.O. Just make you cuts clean and straight, brace the corners (like you see in most people's enclosures), I'd use TiteBond 2 but whichever & glue it up nice, just take your time. If not, it'll show you rushed it.

Alternator Re-Building (Ford 3G Large Case)
Here's my new nightmare problem. I have to completely re-build my H/O alternator for my 2005 Ford Ranger XLT. This is a 3.0 V6 2WD and a Iraggi 260 amp H/O Ford 3G Large Case alternator. Due to a limited budget I am pressed to do this myself instead of sending it off for repair. I will be re-building it with a H/O 240 amp re-build kit. Here's some pics of my progress so far. I still need to order the kit so I have to wait to re-build it and test the final results. Here's the rear bearing and slip ring: Rotor assembly has a broken lead: The rectifier this part usually goes bad. It has diodes that take the AC power produced from the Rotor & Stotor and turns it into DC power fed to the post on the rear, then to the battery and engine vitals: Inside the Stator: SSA member "DrgUpsy" has also given me some basic advice as to the do's and don'ts of this tricky procedure. (He suggested against me trying this) but I am stubborn and want my beats back for comps! For that I'd like to offer Thanks once again to him and springhillautoelectric.com for the parts! Since I have it all tore down I might as well paint it as well. Well, I'm off to order the re-build kit and wait for the delivery man!

Liquid Nail or Wood Glue?
Liquid nail has a vapor that is harmful to some glues used on some subwoofers. Just pick up a bottle of Titebond 2 wood glue and you can't go wrong.

IAK needs an "IHOP"
WTF?? No way. Wrong birch....or your mdf is completely jacked. You didn't get void free nor enough layers, return it. It'll be BAD for enclosures. X2 on that one! I think I was looking at the birch you were referring to when I was at Home Depot yesterday... If so it was a multi-ply laminate that just had a finish layer of birch. This wouldn't be the best thing to build with in my opinion either. In a bind just go with what works, the 3/4" MDF... The sheets are actually a little bit bigger than 8'x4'.

Port Velocity
Here's what TermPak has to say about it: "When designing a vent, you should try to keep the vent air velocity value as low as possible. Otherwise, vent turbulence and other audible artifacts may be heard. Ideally, you would use a vent with a very large surface area to keep the vent air velocity low. This would work because vent air velocity is directly related to the area of the vent being used. Unfortunately, the larger the vent area, the longer the vent length needs to be for a given tuning frequency. In reality, large area vents usually need to be so long that they’re just not practical. Because of this, many designers are forced to trade-off vent air velocity for vent length. Typically, audiophiles recommend keeping the vent air velocity below 5% of the speed of sound. This is not very realistic in autosound installations where enclosure volumes are usually pretty small. At Wayne Harris Enterprises, we have determined that a vent air velocity as high as 12% is acceptable for most installations. With an Aeroport, the vent air velocity can be as high as 20% without running into significant problems." I hope this may help to explain it.

Feedback on SSA Customer Service
WoW! One bad occasion and one hard time doesn't mean you should slam a person or company for the hard work they do. I've had nothing but smooth sailing with SSA...... To sit and rant and rave about disrespect is one thing, only if it's actually deserved. With the attitude I've just seen on here I wouldn't want the business anyway. You can please all the people some of the time, and please some people all of the time. Things happen in the REAL world that are just plain out of control. It's just the way things work...... Not knowing all of the circumstances, in my opinion, there's been some ass shown on the customer's side.... Good things come to those who wait! Like Denim said, you wouldn't want some incompetent person doing the work of a skilled and trained person, you wouldn't want some cheap parts being slapped on just to get you your sub a few days faster only to have it sent back again for a second time....... I'm not bashing you donauaj, it's just there's a way to make a complaint, and you went about it the wrong way. Don't make accusations that you yourself are not 100% sure they are true. There are a lot of variables that can and often do happen when you have something serviced that is made by hand of mankind and not by a machine. I give SSA a 9 out of 10 score, because there's always room for improvement. Keep up the great work guys!

New from NY
- Please, don't use UPS...
I used to deal with shipping on a daily basis... It kinda goes back and forth between the two companies though. "X" carrier will blame the shipper for insufficient packaging and the shipper blames the carrier for rough handling.... Check contents before signing. (if you have the opportunity) That way if it's damaged you can refuse the package and start a claim right then and there. My UPS man hates me for it but I rarely get screwed. I keep thinking of the part of the movie Pet Detective where Jim Carey is the UPS guy kicking the crap out of a box all the way through the building...- Twin 15" Xcon Dodge Dakota X-Cab ( PTS Hybrid Horn )
O.K. then, if you really want to, let's get REAL..... It's best to keep one's mouth shut and have others think you're ignorant, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt..... Do some research before passing any judgment man. Thumpper has been building custom enclosures for many years. Having customers that use his enclosures in a wide variety of applications ranging from daily driver to serious competitors, there are countless positive reviews as well as trophies that speak FOR him. If you don't understand something fully, how can you make any judgment on true performance? P.S. Trevor, sorry for your loss. Hope you and the family are doing well considering the loss. Best wishes.- The "Makin' Money" thread
Hit the lotto! LOL Just think of something a lot of people have a need for, then try to fill it. Scoop dog crap, detail cars...... If you REALLY want money and need it, you'll find a way. Just keep it legal or you'll have a lot of time to think about how you F'd up!- Twin 15" Xcon Dodge Dakota X-Cab ( PTS Hybrid Horn )
