  1. it's a 100 amp fuse, and i haven't checked yet, but i don't believe it popped. like i said only 2 of the 3 30 amp fuses popped and the last one was fine. i opened it up and took some pictures on my phone. they aren't great but i whipped out my camera and for some reason it wont focus at alllllll. so this was my only other option. here they are, i took a picture the whole thing. then i took a picture of each quarter of it, kinda for a close up here i noticed some like brown sticky [glue?] stuff.. not sure what it is but i don't think it's a big deal, but i thought i'd take a picture just in case.. it's kind of hard to see, but it's just below the wire. i put the original (unpopped) fuse back in for comparison, but those are the fuses i was using all new ones though.. all 30 amps. the color is a little off, both are green but i don't think that really matters does it?
  2. why?!
  3. good morninn i'm excited, i got my new laptop yesterday. it's so perttyyy. now i just gotta fix my damn car/amp/sub.
  4. i havent done any electrical upgrades yet, including the big 3. i was planning on doing it this weekend (before any of these issues came up) and then once it came up i knew i had to do it now. my only problem is my alt is under my AC and basically teh whole engine, which means i need a lift. and i won't be able to get a lift untill at the school auto shop on tuesday. ill see if i can get into a family friends shop today. my only problem is, i can't find my engine block to chassis ground. and i don't know if this is normal or not, but my only ground coming from my battery is going straight to my engine block. is that normal? and should i upgrade that too?

more more more!! i wonna see the interior. thats a sweeeeeeeet car though. great find.
  6. yea i know im gonna get a new alt asap anyways. and i'll open it up today and take a picture for you duran. what kind of things should i look for as far as burnt? would it just be black? or broken (like on a fuse)? fyi i haven't smelled any burning at all. or seen smoke. the only thing i could think of was that there was some loud pops and what not when my alt wasn't putting out enough power for my sub. (back before i turned my car off and found out my battery was completely dead). and my head unit kept powering off as soon as the bass would hit because it couldnt keep up. and in the process of that there was some fairly loud pops, but nothing too weird. nmssd12 - i didn't think of that ill check the fuse on my powerwire. i would think that if that fuse was broken, then there would be no complete circuit going to the amp anyways? so that couldn't be the problem could it?
  7. crapppp so i got new fuses, hooked it up. did a load test to set the gains and everything up again. (i lowered them when i noticed it wasn'tw orking right. about where i would normally get my max RMS @ 31.6v i'm getting no more then 15v. is that an amp or a sub problem?! i checked my sub out, it looks fine on the exterior, then again i don't exactly what to look for. and when the sub is playin above about 12v it sounds like it's clipping. but once again i don't know what that sounds like from a sub, but it does definitally sound different. ideas??!
  8. welcome to the best forum around.
  9. k, thanks. no, i have no idea waht happened, i got it somewhat snug tight with my hands. buy it was still freaking out, when i hit the brakes (just light enough so the light will come on) my battery meter on my dash dropped down to about 7, sometimes less, volts. and when i used my turn signals it would drop to about 11v everytime the light was on, and go back to 14 when it was off. then when i got home my brand new battery was completely dead. so i tighted them down, jumped it, and it was fine.. (kinda) since. before the old battery died i started having weird issues too, like what i described earlier with the lights, except not as much of a drop, and it would take for ever to recharge. like if i was to turn on my heater fan, it would drop to about 11 volts and stay at 11, like my alt wasn't keeping up. i'm sure i need a new alternator anyways. it has 196,000 miles, original alt in a 91 pathfinder haha. thanks for your help. i'll go put the fuses in now and give it a shot.
  10. i was having some issues with my electrical, and my battery died at the school yesterday. long story short i had to go get a new battery and put it in. well at the school i don't have any tools in mine or my friends car. i decided that i was sick of hearing them rattle last week so i took them out hahah. and so i could only tighten the terminals by hand. well on my drive home, so i can completely tighten them, i was having some shorts goin on with the terminals and i ended up blowing 2 of my 30 amp fuses on my amp. i was just wondering if there is any way i can test the amp myself to make sure no other damage was done? i'm about to go get some new fuses, and i will get back on when i get home. ps i know i was stupid for doing it by hand, but i didn't have much of any other choice unless i wanted to wait 4 hours for somebody to get off work. idk if you need any more details.. ask and i'll let you know when i get back. thanks guys
  11. 43 pages in less then 11 hours. must be a good day at the hop. i was gonna catch up, but not 43 pages worth.. hello fellow hoppers!
  12. okay i didn't think of that, i will try at a higher volume. the reason why i did it at 40 is because my mids start to clip at about 45+. i'll turn the gain down on that amp and try from there. i noticed that, but i wasn't sure exactly what it is/does. or how to explain it to somebody on here, so i haven't tried. but since i think you know what i'm gonna be talking about, theres 2 settings on there in the "SW Settings" i think it's a LPF but it gives me some options between 45-125hz i can choose from, i set it to 80hz, and the second part to it allows me to pick a number between -26 and +6. i thought that was kind've like a bass boost, so i left it at 0. i'm not sure how to set the crossovers on the HU, i can't really find a noticeble difference between any of the settings, for the highs, mids, or lows on there. and theres a second setting maybe you can help me out with. after i pick the frequency if gives me the option of picking "Q1N, Q2N, Q1W, or Q2W" i have it set to Q2W for all "High, Mids, and Lows" because it's louder. (i set my gains with this set fyi)
  13. i am using an amp, except it's under my passenger seat and is a pain to access. but if thats what you guys think i need to do i can give it a shot.. i haven't any idea how i should tune those amps though. should i just turn the gains down adn leave the rest? (i didn't even put the amp or mids/tweets in, they came with the car. idk what kind any of it is except the amp is some sort of U.S. Amp. as far as 40/62, when i had the DMM connected, i played with the volume, it increases the voltage ever 2 volume levels. ex) 40/41 volts are at 31.6 42/43 volts are at 35.2 44/45 volts are at 38.4 i didn't go higher then that due to my highs clipping (using 60hz test tone). i can't seem to get them to get off the low's no matter what i set my HPF too.
  14. the guide said to do this without the subs connected. but i checked the voltage with the subs connected, and at 31.6 without subs, it dropped to 28.7 volts with the load. i didn't mess with gains or bass boost when it was connected cause wasn't/aren't sure whether that would damage them or not.
  15. deadening really helps that much? my only problem is i'm kinda cheap, considering i'm a student and all. and this is just a temp car untill the snow melts and a good deal comes around on a nicer car. this one has 198,000 miles on it, i'm not sure how much longer it will last. how much do you think it would cost for a whole small suv's worth of deadening? enough to block out most of the noise?
  16. would i check the voltage the same way i would tune my amp with my DMM? but pioneer says my preout is 2volts. and john helped me out on another thread, if i took what he said correctly, then i would use the following formula for my situation. SAE 1000D 12" Q 2ohm DVC 1 ohm load (he said to use the "Final Load" this is it right?) 1.5 cuft sealed enclosure Voltage = sqrt(1000W X 1 ohms) Voltage = sqrt*1000 Voltage = 31.623 is that right? what i did when i was setting my amp was: 1) put HU on 40 [max volume 62, i like 40 personally] 2) set up the deck eq how i prefer it [no experience, just noob ear] 3) set LPF on amp to 80hz or so. 4) (my sub is not connected at all during this fyi) then i turned the gains up slowly, i believe i got around 17volts when gains got maxed out. 5) cut back on gain about 1/4 of a turn and started turning the bass boost up untill i got the suggested volts.. should i max my gains, and turn bass boost off completely? what do i need to change here. thanks everyone.
  17. i would much rather not use a DMM and use and oscilloscope, but i can't afford one, nor find one in town without making someone go out of their way for me. which is what i do not want at all.
  18. Opinions not based on some facts or experience should not be shared. by opinions i was referring mainly to personal experiences more then just plain thoughts. you gotta start somewhere after all. Somehow I feel like you are wordsmithing to change your answer to fit my request. Either way the past is the past, just don't throw "opinions" around in the future. hehe, i suppose i kind of was. though i didn't really think of it as just opinions. i'm not that dumb i usually give advice based on personal taste/experience. i guess my views aren't all that accurate anyways, so your right i wont just toss them around like i suppose i was.
  19. how is the training? my old company fell through and i'm looking. i considered subway but i didn't know anyone who worked there before. Wasn't any really...... it is easy. sweet. my options are either subway, or a couple different local tourist shops that pay really well. not many places are hiring nowadays

  22. well i know hahah, i'm not winning considering he has mod powers and i don't. and he is just all around smarter then me. but he keeps giving me crap about everything, and i really see no point in it. not to disrepect you M5, or anyone on here. i wasn't tryin to start an online fight, just sharing a story about my day and everyone started talkin about how chitty of a person i was for 5 minutes of fun. now can we end this already. please. it's getting rather annoying.
  23. k. i'm not trying to give bad advice, i'm just trying to give my own thoughts. sorry. i know when i ask questions, i'd like to see as many opinions as possible.
  24. if your talking about where setting your welder in relation to the edges that you are trying to weld together. then i believe you place it at a 45degree angle pointing towards the middle of the thicker metal. if that didn't make sense then i'll show a picture, i can't think of how to explain it in words. thats my 2 cents, then again you probably don't care what i say whether it's true or not. but i tried. Penetration depth... ahh, okay. i have no clue then. sorry my mistake
  25. I have found several compacts that are very fun to drive, especially given their power-to-weight ratio. The only thing I've ever dislike was the torque steer.l my dad got a gti autobahn recently that is a lot of fun to drive, it replaced his cooper-s which was also good for some laughs too. fwd isn't always your worst enemy, just most of the time. my dad has a El Camino with a 504 in it, thats fun to ride in.. he won't let anyone else drive it. not even my mom who pretty much paid for 60%+ of everything that went into it. and she's a way better driver then him in everyway.. cept donuts, my dads pretty good at those in that thing. Good at those in that thing? Is he still in high school too? jeez. besides my horrible last sentence, i don't see what the problem with doing donuts are? i've only seen him do them once. i see people (adults) do them all the time in they're rigs aswell. once again, they're just having fun. By saying someone is good at something it implies they do it regularly and the only people I know that do donuts regularly are high school kids. Stop typing like a tard it is annoying. k. i saw him doing this donut 2 years ago, and it was the only time i've seen him do a donut. considering he has been my step-dad for 16 years, and it was the only time. i would say he doesn't do it too often. maybe he just got lucky. would you please get off my case already, you don't seem to appreciate anything i say and just find something to give me crap about. quit saying i'm being immature when your not being the best example.
