hey all. Well, signed up on here a while ago, and haven't really posted. Well, I'm working midnights right now and thought I'd take the time to finally get back into it. As for about me/my vehicle/set up. Right now, I am running: Head Unit: Alpine cda-7998 (love it, phenomenal and does everything I could ask) mids/highs: Clarion SRS-1686 component set (6.5" midbass woven glass cone, 3/4" tweeter silk dome)(very impressed, but then, my ears like the sound of woven glass fiber cones...) Subwoofers: currently (2) clarion SW 1251 12" (single 4 ohm VC, 350 watts RMS) Enclosure: 4 cubic foot net dual slot ported tuned to 32 Hz, common chamber (built in two hours, while the littlee guy was napping, as the wife was at work) Amplifiers: JBL GTO 601.1 (for subwoofers) and 75.2 (for component set) All of this is in my '03 chev s-10 extended cab. As for the subs, well, I had an OZ Audio Matrix Elite 12.4 in there for the longest time (two years in this truck, half a year in a previous truck, and a year in a car beforee that), still have the OZ, still love it. However I was getting a big itch to try/test something new, and was at my local stereo shop, and the salesguy (being a good friend of mine, who was going to quite his job in a couple of days) says, hey why don't you buy these and give them a test, and then told me he'd give them to me at cost since the boss wasn't around.... Well, I'm a sucker, so I get hooked, line sinker and all, and well, I've now had these in for a couple of months, and have to say, I'm thoroughly surprised/impressed. Although I'm sure I'll at some point put the OZ back in, I am currently enjoying pushing these to their limits, and I must say, they can handle the abuse fairly well. I also still have a JL VR 5.25 CSi component set kicking around that I had in a previous vehicle, that I plan on making enclosures for to turn into bookshelfes for the garage. Oh, and advance apoligies, if I miss the letter "e" in words, as I have a toddler who likes to pop buttons off of the laptop, and it went missing on me....
  2. spend the majority of a 12 hour midnight shift killing your eyes reading page after page of car audio forums and manufacturer websites, and then going back to post that in this thread to realize you've allowed too much time to pass since your last post and can no longer edit...... realizing that the first component set you ever bought that's in the storage room has more sentimental value than any gift your wife has bought you. spend two months convincing your in-laws to give you an extra $200 to go towards your brother-in laws christmas gift because you can't get a decent sub and amp for the amount they initially wanted to spend.....
  3. cops here are too busy looking for ricers to bug me. drive an import with after market rims and they're all over ya. I drive a truck, I get ignored. Damn it's nice.
  4. took my son to his first car audio comp. at 18 months old. bought a pair of new subs, just because I got them for dealer cost, even though I was still satisfied with the system I had.... Can build a dual ported enclosure during my toddler's afternoon nap, then wake him up so he can see what daddy built... Ask the wife for forgiveness when th UPS guy shows up to hand her a 30 lb box containing a new subwoofer she had no clue I bought online... (oh boy, she was not happy about this one) decided to build a box for a 10" sub I had sitting in the garage to use as my computer speaker sub, just because I could, and besides, those two sheets of extra MDF in the garage aren't going to use themselves. A friend comes over to show you his new amp, and you install it using the spare wiring you have on hand. Spend many sleepless nights designing an enclosure for a friends vehicle. The local "custom shop" installer has you design and install his new system because he thinks you're more knowledgeable than he is........
