advice for new zcon box
I'll take some mesurements this week-end. I'll tell you what I can do. I don't have more power available, and I don't have the budget to run a bigger amp. I hope I will be able to find a design that can please my ears and my need of cargo space !

advice for new zcon box
But my voltage stays around 12.5 v all the time. It can go up to 14-15v when the alternator starts to work. It must be a regulated alt. So I don't think this Zcon sees a lot of power. But it's loud. I thought the Zcon liked smaller boxes than the Icon or the Xcon. Going from 4 ft3 net, to 3.5 can be bad ?

advice for new zcon box
Hi everyone, I have a 15" Zcon in a CX-5 Mazda. The box is huge in the cargo area : no more room left for groceries ! 4 cu ft @ 33 Hz. I would like to try a new box with sub up AND port up. I feel like the port is too close to the tailgate, and it flex too much. How do you think a new box with port up will play ? Will I loose anything from that change ? Is it absolutely necessary to have a double baffle ? I like to flush mount the sub, and I don't want to use 3 baffles for the new box? Can it be good with good bracing only ? I will try 3.5 cu ft to have asmaller box. I need to take out the false stock floor to put a higher box and save space near the tailgate.

Sealed Vs Ported which is best for SQ
Welcome to the forum. You're on the good track ! Nothing wrond with Focal speakers and Mosconi amplifiers, if you can get them. I have ran Focal sets for 10 years and I loved them. But big money equipments are not the only ways to sound good. Good luck.

Cheapest subwoofer for some clear bass, nothing too big?
I totally agree. I loved all the SSA subs I've had : Icon, Xcon, and now Zcon, all in 15". To the OP : the Dcon is a good choice on that power.

I like that false floor with the batteries. It gives me ideas, as I need to hide mine. No more back seats finally !

Does replacing speaker wire give better sound for 110 RMS component speakers?
Notorious97200 replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalI've never worried about the size of the speaker wires. You shouldn't. You can use the factory wire. No problem with that.

My first SUV gets a sound system.
I love them more and more ! But I did not take time to play with that dsp. I have a few days off, maybe I'll find a moment, and a place to tune everything better.

Do you really need 3 ouputs for headunit for front/rear speaker and a sub?
Notorious97200 replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalJBL is a good and reputable brand. Their entry level equipments sound good. $200-250 for an installation, that seems fair. A little subwoofer on the 4 ch amplifier will help.

NEM's Evilinator!!
I'm wondering the same. I run my Zcon 15 sub up-port back in my SUV, but I'm afraid the port is too close to the rear hatch. I'd like to try sub and port up some day.

Can i use a 4 channel amp to power 2 front speakers and 1 subwoofer?
Notorious97200 replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalYou could take some time, and have a serious look at the build logs you can find on this forum. There are dozens of good builds. You'll learn a lot. A 4 channel amp, a set of component speakers, and a sub later ....you're on the right way. And in good hands with M5 ! Listen to him, lucky guy !!! Don't forget the SSA store : they have amazing products at great prices.

Do you really need 3 ouputs for headunit for front/rear speaker and a sub?
Notorious97200 replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalYou're thinking to much about the head unit. Get one with 3 rca outputs, and focus on what you need : bluetooth, iphone/android reader, cd, video,...etc If you have never installed anything in your car, pay what they want ! All shops have the same prices, so you know what to pay. In Florida, you must find great shops, and lots of equipments. I've seen videos of a shop in Naples, Fl, with SSA and other good brands in the store. I can't remember the name. Take a look at the Modified Section, here.

Baltic Birch Double Flared Kerfed Port
You'll get rid of this one, for fiberglass pods ? What components finally ? The JBL gti or the focal utopia ? (I'd love to have a set of gti 660, but it's too expensive for me !).

If you want cheap, buy cheap, or used. No need for rear speakers. Keep that budget for a sub and its box.

I would get the type R component for the front door, nothing in the rear. And a 4 channel amplifier, so that you can easily add a little subwoofer later.

Going active this time : how to protect the tweeters ?
Everything is hidden properly now, in the glove box. Except the usb cable and the bass knob.

Going active this time : how to protect the tweeters ?
DC isolator installed. I can use my usb device for music now ! I forgot to take the picture. I managed to fit this little piece of equipment under the head unit, in the stock bag. Everything seems secure.

Getting The Right Watts
You need SSA Icon D1 subs, if you want to run a single amp on both, at 1 Ohm. You get D2 if you want one amp per sub at 1 Ohm each. Good luck. Ask all your questions here, before making mistakes. This forum is very helpfull. you can hace all the right advices here.

Dual ICON 12" setup advice
If you can build your own one, you can ask someone to make a design for your car, or you can buy a design from someone (it's cheap and efficient if you talk to the guy). You'd better have a good custom box than a lot of money in amplifier ! The SSA store selles great amps : Sundown, Incriminator, Ampere, US Acoustics,... A 2000 watts amp will be enough, and it would be safer on your car electrical. Don't forget you'll need an amp for the mids & highs too, with so much bass !
