- Problems with my ground/wire
LOL! Waiting on fuse holders and such from Knu should be here soon. Yea I know that. Like I said voltage was pretty damn good (maybe too good), so I was procrastinating in hope of cooler weather. Main thing is I am surprised it's at the ground. That's why I asked the question.- Problems with my ground/wire
Right now I have the following Fosgate equipment 2 1000.1bd 1 450.4 I have 4ga power/ground throught, Optima red top under hood and Optima yellow top in back. One more yellow top for the new install, but n/a with this problem.- Problems with my ground/wire
Hey guys. Today I noticed a strange noise coming from the back of my Yukon. It sounded like digital fart through the woofers. So I decided to shut it down and go check things out. The first thing I noticed was that my ground wire was basically melting at the ground point. The sleeve for the ring terminal was melted along with about an inch of wire has turned the casing form clear gray to black.I have 4ga currently for the power run, amps, and ground, but plan to upgrade soon as the rest of my parts show up. There could be more wrong, but I am at work and this is the first thing I noticed. What has caused this? Was I just pulling too much current for 4ga or is it a bad ground? My voltage has been pretty good so I was stalling until it cooled down to upgrade. I have at the house some new 0/1ga welding wire that I plan to install as soon as all the fuses and such come in form KnuKoncepts, but I would like to hear some thoughts to make sure I do something different this time. I have two new amps that I want to install and it will be drawing a lot more current, so the last thing I want to do is screw up something with my new set up. Opinions welcome and thanks. I can take a pic later, if that helps.- Icons or sa 12's
SSA then dump that prefab box in a pond and build a real box.- What I'm trying to get
look at thor's set up, He is pulling serious numbers with 2 DC 10's. 2 10's / 4 8's and keep you whole seat.- weird smell
probably the excess glue around your voice coil. Most new subs have that smell for a few days. If it's not an electrical smell, it will probably go away. If it does not, then it could be a problem later.- Infinity REF6020CS Component Speakers????
The infinity references use textile (soft) dome tweets. I had the reference line about 5 years ago and they weren't bad. The midrange was pretty good, upper midbass was good, but it couldn't go too low. The tweeter was good enough until you pushed its limits a little bit, then the sibilant sound came out. It's not a harsh sound like metal domes get, but it's almost equally as bad. They are a decent upgrade from stock most likely and really aren't bad for the price at all, but if you want great sound, save up a little more. You sir are correct. They are indeed textile dome, but you would never know it by their sound. Sorry to mislead the OP.- New setup, starting from scratch
Does not hurt to dream, but I agree with Notorious. Neither of you seem to have any idea how much it costs to build something that will power 2 18's much less 4 of them.- Infinity REF6020CS Component Speakers????
I had the Reference 6.5's and the tweeters are brutal when you turn the volume up. I took them out about a month later and replaced them with a set of Boston Pro 60's. They are somewhat better, but not for what they cost. I have come to the realization that hard dome tweeters are just not for me. I am not trying to be negative, you may like them and I hope you do.- Amp Humming Sound
Check your grounds- mids in doors
Curious to hear your thoughts when you install them. I am going to do something similar to get some more mid bass in my Yukon and these look like they will be an option. What Tweeter were you thinking about pairing with these?- electrical upgrade questions
When I was saying an HO alt I was just referring to an alt in the 130-150 amp range. I thought you had to have a battery isolator between batteries? I would still try it with the big 3, extra battery, and the stock alt. I am a big fan of not spending money just for the hell of it. If your stock alt gives up, buy a larger one. If your voltage drops too low, buy the alt. It could be years or never before you would need it. It's your money do as you wish, but thats how I would do it. Fix things that you know are broke and leave well enough alone. An isolator would only be useful if you want to play your radio with the ignition off and that would ruin your batteries and amps.- electrical upgrade questions
I dont have one between mine, just fuses. Granted my stock alt is much larger than your 90, but still it's not that much power you are talking about. Maybe others will chime in to correct me, but my opinion is you wont need the HO alt or the isolator and if it was me I would try it without first before spending $$ for the hell of it.- Which Sundown amp can power 2 JL Audio 10w7 sealed?
every single one of them can, buy the biggest one your budget allows and set gains accordingly.- electrical upgrade questions
I think you would be fine with just the big 3 in 1/0 ga. and the two batteries. Try it without HO alt firt. Thats not that much power really. Why do you need a battery isolator?- two 18 inch fi btl subs
- electrical upgrade or not?
Big 3 should do it, and add a battery if you see a voltage drop. I personally like to have a bat close to the amp if needed or not. Amps do not like low voltage. My Fosgates are 5/6 years old and are still as good as the day I bought them.- electrical upgrade or not?
Ask your cousin to give us more information. Car? Big 3 done? Extra battery? Car?- what 2-15" on a saz3500d
Fi BL or BTL = sound pretty good and can get very loud. I have never listened to a niteshade, but since it's already in your sig, roll with it and let us know how you like it. Edit to add, I have 15" Xcons and I love them and the 3500D would be perfect for them, but was not sure that is what is right for you and a SPL goal.- 4 15 wardens walled < in action >
