  1. Good call on the xcons, great woofas.
  2. He wants final load of 2ohm. he needs dual 1 coils if he is only running one sub. I bought the same because my amps are only 2ohm stable, but I have one on each dual 1 coil woofer. That way when I hook up a one stable amp, I can get 1 ohm when they are both wired together to one amp.
  3. If it's one sub dual 2ohm, you will only be able to wire to 1ohm or 4ohm. If you have 2 you can wire to .5 or 2ohm. I read your post as one sub and that would not be what you want
  4. I have been waiting on posting this until I can hook up with my brother and use his digicam to try and get a nice video, but that does not look like it is going to happen this week, so here goes............ I will update with a video when I can. First off: I want to say thank you to everyone at SSA for answering all my questions and for the good advice. I have read a ton and have learned a lot. Still have a long way to go, but I am happy to be a member of an adult car audio forum with intelligent people giving good advice. A big thank you to Mark and the moderators. Keep up the good work guys. What I have: I have them in a kerf ported box 7cf tuned to about 33-34 built for me by Quentin at Audible Customs and I have 2 of the older 03/04 Rockford Fosgate Power 1000.1bd's on each woofer. The birthsheets say they are sending 1081 and 1113 to each. I have them crossed over right now at 80, but I am still feeling that out and may be going a little lower soon. Also just bought me a Crunch GP3000D that I am going to hook up and see what it can do. I think it will be a good power match up with the xcons, but not too sure about the reliability of the Crunch amps. Only one way to know for sure, but I wont be selling the Fosgates anytime soon. My XCON impression: To be very honest, these could be the best sounding woofers I have ever heard. They get hella loud, but what really is turning me on is how tight and accurate they are. I listen to mostly rock, both new and classic and for a pair of ported 15" woofers they are very fast and keep up in a good way. The bass is very punchy and you feel every note in your gut. Lovin it. I have been playing a lot more Rap and R&B than I usually do mostly just showing off, and the XCONS will THROW DOWN. They will get low and hit nasty hard. Like I have chit falling off the headliner of the Yukon loud. Conclusion: I wanted a subwoofer that would play a wide variety of music, get loud as hell when I wanted it to, and sound good while keeping up with my tastes. I did not want to make compromises and adjust my needs and music taste around a speaker and with the XCONS I don't have to. This an accurate and very musical subwoofer that will take a lot of power and get loud as hell without breaking a sweat and it is exactly what I had in mind when I was planning my system. They keep up with everything I throw at them and I do not have to make compromises. That is a good thing. Would I buy them again tomorrow? Does a hobby horse have a wooden dong? YES!!! If your on the fence, go buy you some XCONS, port your box, and tune low, you will not be disappointed. The SSA crew have done their homework and they have a quality product that is made in the USA. Good Stuff!!
  5. Bridge your 4 channel to the front before you buy anything. I just did this with my Fosgate 450.4 on a set of Boston pro60's and they sound really nice. You could hook up your rear speakers to the head unit for fill.
  6. or, you could go just a little bigger ported and tuned low. You wont be disappointed.
  7. I sure will, sorry I didn't think of that on my own. DOH! I will work up something special to make up for it. You should be proud, it is an excellent product and happy would be putting it mild.
  8. The Xcons get stupid loud and are very accurate in doing so. I know I will get blasted, but the phrase Loud Sound Quality just works. At worst it's a very good compromise of the two. @ M5, Flame away brother.
  9. Box is 7cf, tuned to around 34 and I have 2 of the older 03/04 RF 10001bd, one for each each woofer. Last week, I took a chance and bought a new amp. GP Pro 3000D. Got a good deal on a NIB, so it's worth a shot. If I dont like it, I feel sure I can get my $ back. We shall see. Right now, I dont think I even need it, but for the $ it was hard to turn down even if it sits as a back up.
  10. This is part 2 of the enclosure deal with Quentin. As I posted earlier, the box came in, was built like a tank, and fit like a glove. Problem was I was waiting on some woofers. Well that is no longer a problem. 100lbs showed up. What had I gotten myself into? lol. It has been a slow process with my set up, mainly because I have not had too much free time and I had to do a little then tune a little, and after some wiring and phasing troubles, I got them hooked up and WOW! These woofers in this enclosure POUND! Not only do they pound, but they are very musical and sound great with rock and everything else I throw at them. It's hard to believe that such a big woofer can be so quick and punchy. They feel so stiff to the touch it's unreal they are so fast and precise. For you bass heads, they are shaking my truck like crazy! I cant see chit out of my mirrors and even my stearing wheel shakes like crazy. I am not so young anymore, and after a few songs I realized I cant even drive safely with my junk turned up. The comments I have recieved so far have been O Chit, Stupid, Crazy. and Why (that last one came from the wife, tho I bet she was thinking all of them) LOL I took them all as compliments, and when I was done showing off and played some music other than rap the comments quickly turned to how good it sounds. Once I get the Bostons powered and wired right, this is going to be a GREAT deal for me. I could not be happier with my deal with Quentin and the decision to go with the xcons. I would highly recommend both to anyone. You may not be able to get the box free like I did, but you will still get a quality product and a good value with top shelf customer service. Quentin knows what he is doing and he delivers. He listened to what I wanted and he gave me more than I was asking for. That does not happen in life very often. If you are on the fence with Audible Customs or the SSA xocns...............DON'T BE. Both are excellent and you will not be disappointed. Sorry about the crappy pics. I was planning on taking a video today, but got started putting some components in the doors and am not quite finished. When I get them finished and tuned, I will update this post with better pics and hopefully a cool vid.
  11. I got these a few days ago to replace a set of Infinity Reference components and they sound pretty dang good. Big Big Big improvement. The only problem I have is the output is way down compared to the 2 ohm rated Infinity, which ain't a bad thing because they were very harsh to my ears, but the Bostons are having a hard time keeping up with my sub bass with only 60 watts on them. I am sure they would love some more power and probably wake up and really shine. Details........ The Bostons are rated @ 3ohm and 125w rms and I have a Rockford Forgate 450.4 amp that puts out 60w RMS x 4 @ 2 ohm, 100w x 4 @ 2ohm, and 225w x 2 bridged @ 4ohm. I had thought about just bridging the amp and running 225 x 2 to the front, but the crossovers have many options and I was curious to hear how some of you would wire them up if you were in my shoes. I am not sure how the amp will like 3 ohm bridged, probably not going to be a problem, but just in case I thought i would post this for some advice. I have them crossover single input now. I am trying to get all my junk tuned in so I can take some vids of the new xcons pounding the chit out of the Yukon. : ) Pic of the brochure and crossover options for reference below. Thanks in advance for your replies, they are appreciated.
  12. Welcome from another noob. I am also in SC. Florence.
  13. Sorry I missed your post. The box is ported in the middle for both subs and it has terminals on each end, one for each woofer. I have run the wires from each terminal to my amps. The amps are laid out with 1 1000bd on each side of my RF 450.4 and I am positive I didnt run the wires wrong to the amps. Now I could have wired it wrong to the same amp, but not to different amps. Thats what I thought. Why would 180 make a huge difference? It would be the same. I simply must have something wired wrong, but it sounds really good right now. I will check before I go to work that they are both moving in the same direction. I believe they are, but will check again. Both amps are now set at 180. Think I could have screwed up the wires on both chances. lol I hope not, but you never know.
  14. Thanks guys I appreciate the replies. Good tip on the AA battery. I wish I had a garage. I will dig into it some more Saturday and hopefully get it all sorted out. If everything is wired correctly I will leave it be. Who knows, I am sure it's something simple because I have good sound and volume right now. I just want to be safe and not screw something up since I wont have time tomorrow. I dont want to say too much right now because I feel that I owe SSA and Quentin a proper review for thier efforts, but this box with the xcons POUND like crazy!! I will make sure all is good with my set up and post up some goodies for everyone to see over the weekend. Thanks again.!
  15. It is highly possible I made a mistake, but I am pretty sure I wired them correct. I know the Ohm is right cause I checked them both with the DMM. 2 ohm at each amp. Am I doing any damage leaving it like this until the weekend? Got too much to do tomorrow and wont have time to check it.
  16. I am using two of these from 2003 or 04. They are the silver heat sink with the blue light up logo. Here is my set up, I have 1 ea. dual 1 ohm woofers wired to 2 ohm on each amp. I installed the 2 15" SSA xcons in the enclosure that Quentin built for me and I have spent most of the afternoon trying to tune this. I honestly have been very dissappointed as my output has been very modest for most of the day, but I switched the phase switch to 180 on one amp and WOW it woke up big time. So, I did the same thing on the other amp and my stuff is banging really hard now. This is more like it. My question is, why is this making such a BIG difference? And, do I risk damaging my xcons by running them with the phase set at 180. The two amps are not linked and I am running them one to each woofer. I split the sub out from my head unit with Y cables and run rca's to each amp from there. The subs are rockin now and to go back to phase at 0 would break my heart, cause they are NOT loud, but I dont want to F up anything. I really want to keep it like it is, but I dont understand why it is working and I do not want to mess up anything. Anyone can help me understand why this is working? I want to be able to give a fair review to both SSA and Quentin so thanks in advance for all replies.
  17. Good News...........I got some Big Azz woofas from a guy in the brown truck today. Bad News.............I dont have time to anything with them tonight. Tomorrow, it's goin down.
  18. Please dont say that !! My 15" xocn are out for delivery today. BTW, Nice woofas.
  19. I vote to see you blow the windshield out on music.
  20. Hell yeah!! They are in Columbia, SC tonight, only an hour away. I may have to cut out of work early *cough, cough* might have a 24 hr bug or something.
  21. looks good. :bigclap: Fits like a glove. You got that thing in there priddy quick.
  22. I like Fosgate, but Sundown looks very nice too. probably the best bang for your buck would be a refurbished SAZ 3000D from dbr with 1 year warranty for $600 +/- or the 1500D for $330 +/-.
  23. There are LOTS of good amps for under $1000 that will make plenty of power. With a $1k limit, you can get a nice amp, battery, and run some 0/1 wire. You could do much better than Hifonics, IMO.
  24. Looks great so far. You have a very nice set up taking place.
  25. No subs yet, but soon !! UPS says the 19th.
