Guide to getting LouD with a wall tips
I know this is a couple month old thread, but.. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. Even though it looks better to have everything centered. aim the wall slightly toward where the meter usually goes. This may or may not give you a dB or 2. I gained 1.3dB by moving my wall passenger side back a bit. Keeping the drivers side of the wall in the same spot it was.

what is everyones opinion on AQ subs?
I probably should start a new topic, but figured I could jump in here with a quick question or two. Will a HDC318 or HDC318-A (Dvc2ohm) handle a SoundStream a SoundStream XXX-6500d at 1ohm on 18volts? What about a xxx-4000d at 1ohm at 18volts? These will probably be the determining factors on me investing in 8 to 10 of them.

H/O Alt or Not?
Get a HO alternator and 3 batteries (minimum). 1 would replace your current starter, other 2 in the back. I've ran a xxx-4000d on a stock alt and 2 batteries. Voltage dipped lower than I liked when system at full tilt. Changed out to a 250amp alternator and voltage stays at 13.5 when system is at full tilt. Jumps to 14.5 when I bring the idle up a little. Hope that helps

What is the maximum voltage an 18v Sundown amp can take?
19.2 volts will do just fine on a 16volt system. That is what my alternator was setup for when I had the 16volt setup. Scottie (powermaster) was the one who told me to run it at that.

(6) Mayhem 15's and (6) 40.1's
Quick question. How's the voltage holding up when the system is up? My Powermaster took a dump and thinking about replacing it with a Mechman one (or two) Van looks loud, wish I could hear it in person

Motor City Reman?
I Have dealt with him 2 times without a problem. Had a 180amp in the Beretta and have a 250amp in the Astro. He ships quick and will help you out with any problems you may have. Now..... Reliability is great. Alternator seems to do what it's supposed to. I have to keep my engine idled up to be able to keep my electrical at 14.6 while having the system turned up (4 soundstream splx 154 subs on 1 xxx-4000d amp @1ohm, on 2 batteries.. no where near enough batteries). If I do a normal idle with system up, the voltage goes down to about 13.2. Some have told me that his alternators are not good for huge car audio systems. I bought from him due to having other places money needed to go also. I am pretty happy with it and am pretty sure as soon as I ad more batteries things will be better. Then again.... I keep hearing a small voice in the background saying, "EA, EA, ya should've bought an EA alternator". Hope that helps

How to make a 15v setup
I've heard different stories with those batteries. Some have said that one side, or the other, would never get fully charged. My team mate is currently testing 2 of them to see if they're all they are cracked up to be. So far they are doing great.

How to make a 15v setup
Just to give ya an idea of a 16volt system. This is mine. 1 - Powermaster 350amp alternator with variable regulator. 14 - 8 volt golf cart batteries 4/0 welding cable from alternator to batteries and from batteries to frame Alternator charges at 19.5volts. I had a brief discussion with Scottie Johnson (product manager and R&D for Powermaster, this is a quote from an e-mail from him: My batteries sit at 15.73volts when van is not running and system is not playing. With van runnning, at idle, they jump to 17volts. At 2krpm, the meter jumps to 19.5 volts. I have to keep the rpms at around 2k to keep the voltage up, since the xxx-6500d is a power hog.

160 amp alts
If you can afford it, go with the bigger one.

comp. and how it works?
There are certain things that fall within each class that try to even the playing field for everybody in that class. These are things like how many subs, what size, number of batteries, numbers of amplifiers, number of caps (ugh!, I hate that one, caps suck). Bass Race is completely different though. A 1500watt system can go against a 150,000watt system and win. It's all about control of your system (knowing your system). If you look at the rules, for any organization, you can see how they try to even the playing field. Doesn't always work though as you have those that have the need to cheat to accomplish anything.

New Computer!
Well, since we're talking about our first computers...... My mom bought the very first Tandy computer to ever hit the shelves. In the attic of her house we have a Model 1, II, and III, along with a coco and model 1000/sx. My first computer was a Ti-99/4a then I built a timex sinclair zx-80. It was a kit my dad bought for me to play with. Then I got into running a BBS on WWIV using a packard bell 286. Can't remember the exact specs, but it was so slow. Now.. I own 9 computers, half of which are currently running. Speeds range from 366mhz to 3.0ghz. All running linux, one distro or another. Main ones that are used everyday are running PCLinuxOS 2007. the daily used systems are: Mine: Intel 2.8ghz P4 with hyperthreading 1gig DDR ram ATI 9600 256meg vid card close to 1TB of usable drive space (200gig Western Digital, 300gig Western Digitial Rock external USB, 250gig Maxtor, generic 80gig external USb, and a 160gig Maxtor DVD burner 52x CD Burner Hers: AMD Athlon 2400+ 1gig DDR ram 160gig Maxtor DVD Burner Nvidia 128meg AGP vid card. The rest are either firewalls, ftp servers, LAN game servers, and network storage (like I really needed more space) Every computer here is built by me. The 366mhz system is actually a Abit BP6 with dual Celeron 366mhz processors. Believe it or not Damn, I've been into computers for far too long

astro van vids
Always good to see an Astro vid. Maybe one day I'll be able to see it in person. and you forgot about one person when naming some heavy hitters. Step Harris of Pure Pressure Audio (in Gainesville). 24 12s on 4 SS xxx-6500 amplifiers. But you are pretty much up there, from the looks of it, with all the heavy hitters here.

I need vids!!
A teammates system. Not sure on box specs. 4 Fi Audio 15" BTL subs fully loaded running on 2 SoundStream XXX-6500 amps. I took this video last weekend and forgot all about it until now. Click here to watch 4-15--Fi-Audio-BTLs I should ask him about the box specs this weekend. Heard he's fixing to change up things a little bit though.

Box/Wall Help
Dance floors are pretty easy. I used the existing seat brackets to secure my dance floor to the car. Then built up from there. Others do it different though, but I found this way to be easy. Port location...... I'm not too knowledgeable on this stuff except for systems I've heard in person. I like the port in the center, firing between the front seats.

tools to cut speaker and terminal holes?
I usually just drill a hole for a speaker wire to fit through with a little effort. then seal it on the inside with caulk. Makes life a little simpler. And a jasper jig is the way to go, with a plunge router. I'm too cheap to buy them though, so I take my time and use an orbital jig. Holes comes out pretty darn good. Definitely not for the impatient though.

How to become sponsored by Sundown Audio???
Not sure about Sundown, but most companies I've looked at want you to prove yourself before they'll consider you. This means hitting every show possible (and some that aren't) and getting your name out there. Getting sponsored can take quite a bit of work. Got to show them what you can do. Of course, once you get that first sponsorship, with any company, it's pretty much easy after that..

SSA going to help out Realmofexcursion.com
Honestly, this could be a good thing for both sites. Some things over there really need to be cleaned up and Shon just can't do it with his schedule. Just take it day by day and see what happens. I see good things from it. Especially the part of SSA helping Shon out. Just don't get too much of that type of thing anymore. My hats off to SSA.

From: Used, B-Stock, and Refurbished Amps
Wish I had the money, I'd buy all that's left of the 1500d amps, since I really need all 4. Just bought another astro though, so things are very tight.

Soundstream Amps
Amps will need 16volts for full potential. They draw quite a bit of amps so a large alt will definately be needed. We had an astro at yesterdays show. During the second run, the van shut down. The amp was at .5ohm (if I remember right) and running on a 12volt electrical system with 10 batteries backing it up. Amp went into protect due to not having enough juice to keep it powered. Thought the amp was fried at first, thank god it wasn't.

SoundStream wont Sponsor Local Competition.
Yup, gotta be able to do a broader range of shows, and be able to attend a certain amount of shows during a given time. I've pretty much lost my sponsorship with them since the van has been down more than I anticipated. I'm with you on getting rid of everything with SoundStream on it. I've got a sub being repaired by them right now, and have 6 or 7 more months before I can sell the equipment (can't sell anything within a year of beginning the sponsorship). Once the year is up, I'm done with soundstream. My sub setup
