2000 for 2 SA-10's
Better yet.... I punched this into WinISD real quick just to show everyone. These are drivers that are already in the program I used just for reference. Same manufacturer, same series both in whatever WinISD considers as optimal enclosures. They're rated at 250wrms and as you can see in the first example the 18 is considerably louder than the 10 on a 250watt signal. Now look at the power it took to get the 10 to the same theoretical output as the 18.... 1500 WATTS!!!! The driver will never take that much power, no matter the fancy enclosure or work that was done and is why using more power to get louder is simply the wrong way to do so.

2000 for 2 SA-10's
i wanted harder hitting Then you should have gone with more or larger subs. There's no replacement for displacement when it comes to getting louder. As Denim and Stefanhinote had said, it's not the best way to go about it because it's not an efficient way to do so. You can use a program like WinISD to give you an idea about how much more power it takes to raise SPL levels. It's only a calculation, but it can show you what we're trying to say. Doing so you can see that in order to significantly raise the SPL level of a driver by power alone it will have to go well beyond it's thermal or mechanical ability to handle it. That shows in a glance that it's simply not the way to go. Besides that, "harder hitting" is a horrible way to describe what you're trying to achieve. If you want it louder and "harder hitting" you'll either have to add more 10's or get larger subs.

I'm with edub on the idiot running into the street. I really do have a lot of patience for idiots, but that's absurd. I would have cranked it, stepped out of the car and asked him what he was going to do about it, personally, I don't take idle threats very well at all. Ever hear the saying "Sarcasm is the body's defense against stupidity."?? I usually try to start with the sarcasm, it's up to them how it ends. The beauty panel is a great way to help make things look even better. Keep up the great work dude.

Little build in a '99 Chevy 1500 for a co-worker
Thanks! LOL, I know. There's no way to get great from ~$300, hell it's hard to get good from that. I was glad to see him willing to spend a few dollars to make sure it was done right, that's for sure. I only wish he would have been willing to spend some on sound deadening. Oh well, perhaps in the future.

Little build in a '99 Chevy 1500 for a co-worker
Yeah, I'd say lucky kid!! Took years before I could have anything near as nice as this. It should do him very well for awhile. Yeah, it's nice how well the factory setup allowed for the aftermarket installation. Thanks!! I sold him the Hifonics subs (w/ tube enclosures) and amps for $350, he's spent ~$650 for everything else. Really not too shabby considering all there is in it.

Little build in a '99 Chevy 1500 for a co-worker
This little build here is for a co-worker. He bought the old Hifonics equipment out of the van from me and plans on giving this truck to his son to drive in about a year or less. The system was designed on a fairly short budget, though he didn't want to cut many corners there's still almost $1,000 in it. Equipment consists of a Hifonics ZXi 6006 amp for the components, a Hifonics BXi2006D sub amp, a pair of 12" Hifonics Zeus subs, CDT COM-626 6.5" 2 way components and a JVC KD-HDR60 head unit. He purchased a "custom" enclosure from ebay for an easy fit under the rear seat. It's a sealed enclosure totaling 2.2cuft. net volume (according to the manufacturer) and he raised the rear seat himself ~3" and mounted the amps to the top of the enclosure. Before you ask, yes he understands the heat problem associated with doing this and will have the bottom of the seat raised when playing the system hard or when the temperatures require it. It has KNU 1/0 and 4 gauge CCA wire ran for the amps so there's room for future upgrades, the subs will be wired to 2 ohms on the 2006D and I'll be wiring the BIG 3 as well. While it's not a real bad-ass system or flashy by any means, it should be a great beginning setup for his son. Forgive me on the number of pics for this build. It's been VERY hot and humid here (heat indexes >110F) everyday and so I've been trying to make the most out of the time I spend working on it and unfortunately not as worried about getting the pictures. Here's a picture of the door panels off. I removed the factory mesh cover's and the factory tweeter plates from the door panels, removed the factory tweeter and cut holes for the CDT tweeters to mount into the plates. Here's a shot of the box he bought with the amps mounted to it and one of the subs resting there on the center hump. I also added poly-fill to the enclosure. Here's a general shot of the passenger side of the truck. You can see the RCA's coming out of the bottom of the dash, and the CDT woofer mounted there as well. Here's a shot of the driver's door with the CDT woofer mounted in it. I just have the wires looped up there to keep them out of the way. Quick shot of the JVC mounted in the dash. Here's a shot of the back of the cab stripped down for wire running purposes. Not much left to do here. Here's a shot of the finished doors. As you can see I kept as factory an appearance as possible there. All that's left is to finish placing the wires where I want them to run, get things hooked up, install the wires for the BIG 3 and tune it.

You can get 15% from THIS place, don't know anything about them though. I just did a quick search on the interwebz.

Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
LOL.... wish I could have gotten a video yesterday while we were driving it around for a guy who's looking to buy it for parts... He came over and was asking if the engine could start, how well it ran and if we thought the tranny was still any good. We all loaded in it and drove it to town (15-20 mins away) and tooled around town for several hours screwing around before heading back to the shop. The guy even drove it for awhile and commented on the fact that he couldn't believe how well it was driving considering the damage it had received. He put $20 worth of gas in it and we went through most of it if that tells you anything. He'll likely be coming back today to make an offer on it, LOL.

Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
Everyone's gotta understand too, he had time to slow down, at least some. He was maneuvering around two deer that were already crossing the road when a third one jumped out in front of him. If he had braked and slowed down when he saw and began to make his move around the first two he could likely have kept control of the car for the third one or at least not caused near as much damage. He was very wrong to have assumed the two he first saw were the only ones there.

Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
Damn, wish I had known, I would have pulled you out and saved you the $$$$$. Let me know the next time you plan on coming down. Hadn't thought about EBAY, good thing he doesn't owe anything on it at all. Speaking of EBAY, anyone interested in buying an Ultralight? Thanks again guys, he appreciates all the support. He's surprisingly got very few bruises to show for it either, though he says he feels like he's gone through about a 6 man beat down on how he feels sore all over. Dan, the damage on that truck sucks for sure, but I'm sure my lil bro would rather have a front end like that than the totaled mess he has right now, LOL. Yeah, the corn is doing very well around the house there. Good strong stand should make quite a few bushel.

Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
On your way to Vincennes? When were you heading this way? Oh, and BTW... Took it to one of the best body repair guys I know this evening. First of all he was surprised we drove it in there after I had told him what happened on the phone. Second he looked it over and said it was definitely a total loss. He was partially hopeful while looking around the outside of it, then he popped the hood. Under the hood he found damage I had previously missed. The driver's side shock tower was BUCKLED, yes buckled. When he found that he slid under the front of the car and found the sub frame twisted, lifted, and screwed completely up along with the locations it mounts to the uni-body. Further inspection found the engine/transmission slightly tilted due to the sub frame damage as well. Funniest part about it was that we drove it ~15 miles to the guys house then around town taking it to show our uncle, his employer, and our sister. All the while with no real problems driving it AND everything such as the AC still working, LOL. Who would ever have figured it? So the hunt for replacement is on. The body repair guy is going to make some calls and see what we may be able to get out of it from some salvage guys he knows.

Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
Thanks guys he'll appreciate all the moral support... He drives me absolutely insane most of the time, but I still love him, he's my brother. I was actually surprised the car fared as well as it did. I was fully expecting to come up on him being bloodied and the car a complete mess when he called. The fact we were able to put it back on it's tires and him drive it away was nothing short of a miracle. When I stepped it off last night there was about 60-70ft of distance between where he hit the ditch and where the car came to rest and most of the ground between those two points was untouched. He thought he was going about 50MPH when he swerved and I would about agree with that, especially since the distance between where he swerved and wrecked and the road he turned off of was only about long enough to have reached that speed. 50MPH was still WAY too fast though. @ sefugi - Thanks, it's not a bad area to live at all and it's just about right on being remote. It's far enough away that there's not much I could ever do to disturb any of the neighbors but it's only ~10 minutes either direction to a city big enough to consider it civilization, lol. @trod - Yeah, the 18 is the least of his worries now. Though one evil little thought I had is that it would be a perfect competition vehicle now as who the hell would care what the hell happens to it building walls and shit, not like it can be damaged a whole lot more doing that sort of stuff.

Peak power is a useless number used for marketing purposes, however the RMS rating on the driver is 1750WRMS.

Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
Well, my little brother has done it again. He managed to flip and roll his car this time though. On his way to my house last night to pick up his dog that we were doggy sitting for him after closing and getting off work and going by the good 'ol Wally World to grab a few things he turned onto a gravel road swerved to miss a few deer and managed to do this only a couple of miles from my house. Luckily he wasn't injured any worse than a bump on the head and he'll have some nice bruises to show for it. The car came to rest on the driver's side and he crawled out the opening for the rear window and called me. I rushed immediately to him and when I was satisfied he wasn't seriously injured we used the Jimmy to lower the car back onto all 4 tires while the authorities were in route. Once the paramedics gave their OK that he was alright he was actually able to drive the car back to my place, and NO he does not have full coverage insurance. I wish I could have had the frame of mind to think of grabbing pictures last night, but I think the pics I got this morning show just how lucky he is to have walked away from it without even a cut from the broken window. Also the fairly remote location of the accident would have been very bad for him if he had been seriously injured since in the ~3hrs it took for all that to take place not ONE single vehicle passed the area. He could have well been there until this morning had he been unable to call me. Anyway, onto the aftermath pics, so much for this 2008 GP.

From: Back to black. Low profile. Not quite stealth, but better!
I'm NOT trying to be a smartass here... Honestly, how does it sound to you? I wonder with great curiosity how it sounds with the highs firing down in front of you like that. Sure wish I could check it out sometime just to see for myself. I can't say it's a direction I would ever choose for one of my builds, but I've learned over the years that definitely doesn't mean a damn thing. Over the years I've listened to some pretty fucked up installs (IMO & not my opinion of yours) that surprised the absolute hell out of me on how good they sounded or how loud they got. I tend not to form an opinion until I've seen AND heard it for myself.

Waiting to be shipped??
As Mark had said, that's exactly what it means. It's awaiting creation, then transportation, for your audio sensation. It takes a few days to complete and afterward you're in for a treat. LOL, damnit, gotta stop doing that. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you love the sound of the 10" DCON, they are definitely great subs. You can put on a goofy grin tho, knowing you'll have yours as soon as they can get it to you. I'll be looking for the build log!

No stickers?
Yeah what i'm saying though is usually when you order subs from sundown they give you stickers, i got mine through a guy who didn't have speakers.. Didn't know if jacob could send me some but if i guess i'll order some from that site you sent me You said you bought them used, right? How could Sundown ensure any stickers could be in the box if you didn't buy them direct from Sundown or an authorized dealer? You might get lucky and Jacob send you some because he's a kewl guy like that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

give me a bad rep
Wow... I've always liked the crazy ass shit you do, and told you so several times I believe. It's different and while not what most people would do, I find it very interesting to see it work. I dunno what's going on, but I hope it all works out.

Amp repair. Help?
lol... I kinda figured you'd get the tools as you go, just wanted you to have a good list to go by... As much information that's available on the interwebz, you'll likely not need to buy a book for cross reference and there should be some good tutorials available around the web as well on amplifier basics like theory, operation, design, etc... I got the utmost confidence you'll be able to do it!!!
