Powering a Fi Q 12"
First of all, what are your listening preferences? The Q is really designed for SQ, not getting loud. If you're worried about how loud it will get off of 500wrms then you may want to consider an SSD or BL. Otherwise, 500wrms will be plenty to get the driver moving and sounding good.

What is this I wonder....
Well, this came in today. Thought I'd share a few pics of it. My sister ordered this for her '02 Durango. She currently has a Kenwood KDC-X493 HU running to a Hifonics ZXi8006. PG RSD 6.5's in the front and JBL 6.5's in the back doors and a Pyle Red Label 12" Square sub that her ex had given her a few years ago. It should be a great upgrade to this from that Pyle POS and it should be at home on the ~300wrms @ 2 ohms the Hifonics is rated for. We'll be building a 2-2.25cuft enclosure for it as soon as I get my vehicles done this spring.

quick sub ohm question
yes.... wired in series, which would be positive terminal to postive on first sub coil, negative of first sub coil to positive of second sub coil, then negative of second sub coil to amp negative.... there's a handy little illustration floating around here somewhere....

US Congress will offer no extensions......
I sure hope things work out for ya man. I see you have welding skills and are a certified welder. I don't know how the unions work on the subject but could you be certified to weld on pipelines? The pipes are running into the ground like absolute madness. They just got done finishing a 42" called REX (Rocky Mountain Express) that runs from the flats out west all the way to Ohio somewhere and it's not the last one. Perhaps as a certified welder you could find work doing something like that without pissing off the current union?

Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale
I keep seeing you mention "clearing", do you mean clearing as in clearing CUSTOMS???!!!!???!?!???!?? If that's the case I think we should all start praying now that CUSTOMS doesn't screw this one up and have them all held up for any longer than necessary to fuddle the paperwork.

4ohm vs 1 ohm ?
altoncustomtech replied to socialstealth's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalFrom what I understand in many many pages of reading on just this subject the difference on a QUALITY built amp in distortion levels from a 4 ohm load to a 1 ohm load is minimal, measuralbe yes, audible no. Our ears cannot pick up distortion in bass frequencies very well. I could take my o-scope and hook it up to the sub amp on MANY setups out there and see distortion at high listening levels very easily without ever really hearing it when listening to the system. However, those distortion levels while noticable on the scope are in the 1-5% THD range and very hard to hear. Most people who do testing in this field regard 20-30% distortion level on BASS frequencies as audible "IN GENERAL". My O-scope can calculate THD levels (i have no idea how accurate the calculation is) and I've heard distortion at around 10% according to the scope. Even at with that, at 5% according to the scope I couldn't really hear it either so they may have something in that generalization. For higher frequencies it doesn't take anywhere near as much distortion to become audible, but for bass it's just not as appearent. Car Audio & Electronics had an article once on how they did their testing and how those numbers worked, I'll see if I can find it.

raising my db's
FIRST of all the amp itself has NOTHING directly to do with the number of DB's you can get. The amount of SPL you achieve has more to do with the driver, enclosure and their installation in relationship to the acoustics of the vehicle than the power you run. To say you saw in this forum that AMP CAN HIT XXX.X DB's is worthless to say. Now, if you're looking to get louder it's possible a re-tune of the port may help, moving the enclosure (not always possible) is another way to increase spl. Put a volt meter on the amp and watch your voltage, if it's dipping very much you may need to rethink your electrical. What we need is this: 1. Tuning of your enclosure. 2. Type of vehicle. 3. Placement in said vehicle. 4. Port/Driver relationship. (i.e. Sub up, port up; sub forward, port forward) This kind of info can help us figure out what your setup really is and what ways that we've seen, used, heard of to improve numbers in your situation. Also, where did your enclosure come from? Is it a pre-fab, you built it, professionally built? There's more reasons than you can fathom as to why numbers go up or down in any given setup.

Sundown SA 12s or Lethal Injection 12s?
They're both great drivers built by great companies with great customer support. It's really hard to call one over the other. If your listening preference leans more toward SQ then you may want to read the review for the SA-12 on the Sundown website, it's very informative and unlike most reviews on the SA speaks to its SQ abilities.

First taste of Sundown Goodness
WOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!! I got my "used" SAX-125.2 to run the 6.5" PG RSD's in my Jimmy today. Thing is, I can't tell it's EVER been used. No scratches at all, no dings, hell I can't even find where it was ever even mounted (no scratches in paint at mounting locations). I ordered it direct from Jacob and all I can say is WOW, Jacob YOU ARE THE MAN! I never imagined I could buy something used that looks this much like it was never used and with a 1 year warranty to top it off. I can't wait to see the "used" SAZ-1500 I'll be getting with the SA-8's. On to a few pics. Tested twice, apprently it's nearly a year old. See, no sign of being screwed down and mounted. The other three locations are just as clean. Not a single scratch or ding on the top, and if you notice the white spot in the lower right of the picture it was just a spec. I brushed it off right after I noticed it in the picture. Here's the bottom scratch free as well. As you can see, Jacob sure treated me right on this one. THANK YOU MAN!!

Thanks to all Sundown customers !
Same here, I've spent ~$1820 on Sundown equipment myself. It's not everyday you get a "THANK YOU" direct from the owner of ANY company for helping make their business successful. This is another sign of the A+ class that is consistently shown by Sundown Audio and Jacob, and why us customers keep coming back for more.

Thanks to all Sundown customers !
I'm glad I could help! LOL I think it has more to do with the quality products and customer service than anything else. Keep on the excellent work and we'll keep on buying!!

How much are 12" Fi SSDs
X2... Why? Who really cares, it's a QUALITY product. If it only cost them 5 cents to build them, would you think the MAP price wasn't justifiable for the quality, performance and customer service? Besides, look at the mainstream brands, I can just about guarantee Fi isn't making the profit on their drivers that the mainstream companies are.

Notice: Behind on e-mails
Looks like you may be doing your job too well, LOL! BTW, you should have an email from PayPal regarding the payment clearing for the 125.2 Thought I'd give you the heads up. Keep up the great work man!

Need help building a box for subwoofer without Specifications
Actually I must commend you on ACTUALLY EXPERIMENTING. 9 out of 10 times people are asked to try something they simply whine and ask on another forum and get bogus information. It's good to see someone trying so hard to figure out for themselves how/why/what really helps or hurts. While the methods left a little to be desired it still did what it needed to do and you learned from it. I think that you deserve a pat on the back for that.

us amps HC50
I used to have one of these little meanies back in the day, the above information is 100% correct. Quite a current hungry amp though, very inefficient and if you run the load down on it it will get VERY hot as well. The guy I traded mine to melted the carpet on the amp rack around where it was mounted in his truck at 1 ohm. I'd also say that they seem quite underrated as well though I didn't have the ability to test output back then.

Carl Casper
Wish I could have gone. Damn, I though I was the only one with a system infused mini-van. Glad to see another MV out there, gotta love how they turn heads. Glad to hear the show was good and that Sundown ruled the show!

2000 watts RMS at 2 ohms
I didn't think the AP 3001D was 1 ohm stable x 1. I've always read it's 2000wrms x 1 into 2ohms OR 1500wrms x 2 into 1 ohm. Though I'm probably wrong.
-
2000 watts RMS at 2 ohms
no.... you have two dual 2 subs, that makes for a total 2 ohm load series/parallelled. If the amps are strapped to a 2 ohm load (the recommended lowest load) then each amp will see 1 ohm. Plain and simple, like bridging an amp, each channel see's half the nominal load.
-
2000 watts RMS at 2 ohms
Why not do two SAZ-1000D's strapped?

ANother question about an ssd
Look through the cooling vents where the cast frame meets the motor structure. The coil configuration and any options such as copper coil and BP will be written on the coil former.

First taste of Sundown Goodness
Hi guys! It's been too cold to work on anything still, and this weekend we had better temps but the 'ol lady had me busy doing other things like buying and moving a new couch, cleaning up outside, etc. I did find some time to get the kids out to meet for the first time and let them play together a little, snapped a few pics during the play date. Sorry for the lack of quality in the pics though, stupid cell cam. I'm also pretty sure this is the first time I got a pic of both Q's at the same time. Hopefully the next time I post any pics it will be of the rebuild log.
