  1. BUMP Still have the BNIB, never mounted, never even bump tested with a battery, fully loaded 18" Fi SSD subwoofer for sale. Asking $225 shipped in the CONUS.
  2. ISN'T IT!! lol Yeah I'm SO ready to hear that XCON. I think I'm gonna buy a couple of sheets of the cheaper 11ply Birch they have at Menards to build a play box for the 15" DCON/ICON subs. Gotta do something with them, though I should probably just sell them, I'd rather have a little fun with them.
  3. How attached are you to the Kenwood? I replaced the Kenwood in my Jimmy with the Clarion CZ702 and I'm never looking back. The processing power that HU has for it's modest price is quite remarkable, fairly easy to use and navigate, and would suffice for most any setup. My only complaints with it is the PEQ is only 5 bands and it could stand another 10 or 20 seconds in the menus before automatically exiting them. I just showed a friend earlier tonight what DTA and proper crossover and EQ controls can do for a person. That was about three hours ago and we're still talking about it, lol. If you're really wanting to go active then you need to identify where you're wanting to put the speakers, the kind of fab work you're willing to do/capable of doing, and other pertinent information to get recommendations on raw drivers that would suit the application. If you'd rather stick with components those Alpines really aren't too shabby. Perhaps more attention to the installation can yield you some better results in the midbass response you're getting from them. My friend was very impressed with the components in the Jimmy and the install they're in. Even so I find myself REALLY wanting to do something different, either changing the install to get better aiming from the sets or going with an active setup of some sort. Though no matter what we do the outcome of the response is a direct result of the installation. As a wise man has said many times on here, speakers are dumb, they only do what we tell them to do in the environment we choose to put them in. Just for clarification, I won't be recommending any raw drivers for active use as I'm still learning the in's & out's, why's & how's, and do's & dont's for active setups, driver selection and placement.
  4. Initially I have designed a 1.5cuft NET enclosure tuned to 32hz with ~47sqin of port area (13.5" x 3.5") at 15" H x 27" W x 23" D with a double front baffle for flush mounting. I think it would make a very solid enclosure to go with, lots of loud deep bass!
  5. If you're sure those dimensions are good you've got PLENTY of room for that single 10 and more than adequate port area too. I'll get a preliminary design done and posted up to see what you think. Do you have a preference on orientation? Sub up port back, sub and port forward/rear, sub back port side? With a trunk car I personally prefer to seal the sub and enclosure to the cabin, but I need to know what you're looking to do with your build.
  6. Ok. Finally got started on the enclosure again. Work has been just shy of insane with us running most of our engines moving gas since September last year. In the last few weeks we've been slowing down on the amount of gas we're moving and engines we run so after getting caught up on a few things I had a little free time to start on the enclosure. So here's a few pictures to start it off, lol. First cut. It is noticeably easier to cut than MDF, I'm looking forward to routing it for the plexi. Got all the cuts made, beginning the assembly. This is how I left it today. With any luck I can get there to work on it some this weekend but I'm not going to hold my breath.
  7. He was right the first time. Have you ever seen how fast Alton works? He flies right through builds. LOL!! Sure. That's why I still have the 10" XCON (and PR's), 15" DCON, and 15" ICON sitting in their shipping boxes unused. One bit of good news, I did finally start assembly on the box for the Jimmy (using the $90 Baltic Birch) again. I may ACTUALLY get it done and installed before the end of the year this year. LOL $90 Baltic Birch? You going to stain it? If not, why it over MDF? Just curious. Honestly, just because I've never used it before. I have read that it's easier to cut and work with along with being a bit lighter. Considering my plans to use plexi and that I'm making it easy to remove for when I need to haul stuff it seemed fitting.

  9. Making a cardboard Mach up is a great way to find out exactly what can and can't fit through the opening.
  10. I agree, but I'm also not going to say not to do it either. The air space difference will be almost negligible and therefore any difference will likely not be audible. But hey, it's simple and free to try.
  11. Fantastic bit of advice and information right here. As with anything, it would be great to only have to do it once, but if it were that easy the hobby wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
  12. ^^^ Exactly. You need to measure the maximum height, width and depth that you can fit through your trunk opening and post them up here. I'd be happy to design you an enclosure for your sub, complete with a 3d drawing and cut sheets to guide you through the build process. Without those measurements nothing can be designed or drawn up because it may not fit.
  13. Happy Birthday brother!!!!!!
  14. Dude, fellow Hoosier AND Fi user?!? Awesome! to the forum! Give us some max dimensions, preferred tuning, and other such information and we'll be glad to help you out.
  15. Awesome choice on the sub! to the forum!!!
  16. As many of us tried to explain in your threads on this before, given the limitations you have on your installation you're simply NOT going to get any real noticeable improvement by just changing the subs. The limitations that are causing sub-par performance with your current subs will cause the same issue with new ones. We feel your pain, believe me we do, but there's no magic sub that's just going to instantly make the problems with the limitations you have become null and void. I've personally been through the same thing with a friend when we were just out of high school. Had a pair of 12" Kicker Competition subs behind his seat in truck boxes and didn't like the lack of performance compared to how they performed when he had them in a wedge shaped box in the car he sold for the truck. He got suckered into buying a pair of Alumapro subs by a salesman at a local shop who claimed they would be a major improvement. Boy was he ever pissed off when they didn't even get as loud as the Kickers, sounded better yes, but not even as loud. You've got to come to terms with the fact that your install limitations are going to cause issue with the performance no matter what sub you're using. Without a larger enclosure, different tuning, more port area, etc. you're not going to see any sizeable improvement.
  17. I have the same problem here being the only person who's running SSA and Fi. That is, like Aaron mentioned, until they listen to it. (of course no one has heard the XCON yet as the enclosure isn't done yet)
  18. Things have been a bit too hectic for me to get after helping with the design, and it looks to me like you don't need much help at all. It looks really damn good from my initial looks at the numbers. The only slight difference may come to the tuning, it could end up a tad higher than what you have it tuned to. The reason for that is because for a center splitting port like that to tune properly half the port width (the 3.25") to the port length on each side/in each chamber, or at least from all the reading I've done and experience I've had with this style enclosure. No matter what I don't think it's going to make near a big enough difference to worry about it. I say build it and enjoy!
  19. I LOVE the paint on the door panels!!!!! It's looking great bro, keep up the work!
  20. Awesome to hear the DCON's are treating you right. They are truly some awesome subs. and welcome back to the forum!
