Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics
he's got a good point, play it and pay close attention to how it performs, if it is blown just unhook it quickly so you don't faq up your amp. should i test it out in free air?

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics
you act like i meant to abuse it. that's the last thing i'd do. i'm 17 and this is my first real setup. i put the loud feature on not knowing. now i'll never use it again. sry for coming off like a little cry baby but its frustrating. so you're saying if i hook it back up and it works fine. then everything is good? and what happened today and yesterday was me almost breaking it?

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics
or better yet lets hope you just blew the VC's on your components, how do they sound now? it's definately the sub.. the sub is sitting on my bedroom floor next to me and that's what smells. i thought these btl's were troopers.. i didn't think 2 hours (if that) of a clipped signal would destroy the coil. what makes me pissed is why were my terminals already coated in burn residue when i unboxed it there is NO scratching sound when i push on the cone.. i think the VC's were just cooking.. but is they far too gone i just want to put it back in and fix my settings.. but do i need to a recone ya sorry bout the dumb ? you already answered in 1st post i read 1st half of it and got freaked out for ya bro, plus i had 2 beers and I am light weight these days sooo my bad i should read everything before i rush to post. The Fi's are trooper BUT, there is a big difference between giving it a clipped amp signal with no distortion from HU and using the loud button or alike, when you give it a distorted signal before the amp you are then amplifying distortion making much much worse then sending a clean signal in and clipping your amp, yes clipping your amp is usually where you start to create distortion esp as you turn it up more but ya the loud button is the devil. Ya you prob need a recone but what you really need to do is get ahold of Fi, I have'nt delt with them but have heard great things about their customer service. They will tell you exactly what you need you prob need 2 new vc's and maybe a full on rebuild depending on what you damaged of course. How long did you jam on it with the satan button i mean loud button on? that may make a difference, of course even a few seconds of it can cause catastrofic failures under the wrong circumstances. I know your patient but Imight be able to help you out if will have a hard time dealing without a sub while it gets fixed, I got an extra 15 kicking around, give me a call if its going to be gone longer then you can handle if you want I'll pm you my digits. feel free to call any time you have a ? you need a quick answer to or if ya want to shoot the chit or "vent" about your woes, sometimes that helps. i used the loud feature half way to the show yesterday. during the whole show. the whole way back. on my way to work today. and on my way back from work today. so i fucked it up. i fuckin seriosuly just want to quit. i've maxxed out my spending for all of this stuff. and what happens.. i fry my coil after only using the damn thing for two weeks. go fuckin figure. it's not worth working 40+ and having ) spending dollars. then having to play football and go to highschool. so Fi has pretty good customer service but they never pick up the phone. they call u back. and i work so they'll probably end up calling whil ei;m there.. go figure.. and emailing sucks. but i'm going to do both. this is great. now i have to send my sub across america and pay probably over $200 doing it. fuck me right. but i might definately hit u up for that 15 haha. but. damn. why does this shit hate me? Thanks Bill! before i totally go ape shit can anyone else let me know if my sub will be ok? or is a recone my only option?

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics
the max volume of my headunit is 36 and i set the gain with it at 20.. but i usually play it at 22 which was what it was at. i hope i didn;t damage it in any way. hopefully shizzon or someone chimes in but i think i'll reset the gain with th eloudness option on.. then i should be straight right? thanks! the sub still effin smells and now that's all i can smell in my room.. my mom even noticed the weird smell.. but why the hell would my magnet and basket be warm... along with the dustcap...?

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics
do u think i fucked something up though? or did i not mess it up that bad? i meant to reset the gain once i turned it on but i kinda forgot :/ that's what i think it was doing... made the amp start clipping perhaps...?

Me or the sub? Help! Please! Pics
Ok so yesterday i smelt a weird ass smell. It almost smelt like manure or something. Then I smelt it again today, twice. The second time i popped the trunk and stuck my nose in the port.. found the source of the funk... It was a burning smell. I was listening to music at full tilt which i regularly do. The oinly change i've made was putting on the loudness feature on my headunit. So what's the deal? The spider is fine and the voice coils look ok but they have spots on them that look like rust or something. Also the burn marks of the terminals aren't from me. My sub came like that. Here's the pics. I ripped the sub out to investigate. But i'm stumped. It seems that the smell is coming tfrom inside the holes at the bottom of the basket. The arms of the basket were warm to the touch which is weird. the magnet is also warm to the touch still after being off for 20 minutes atleast. The cone moves fine BTW with non noise. First Terminal

If anyone knows a place in my state please just hook me up with the name and number so I can figure it out. I'd even be willing to drive to Rhode Island or Conneticut if it wasnt too far.. Thanks!

MBarber25's Build Log
It was a pleasure meeting you today Marcus, do'nt let it get you down that you got 3rd out 3, you did well after your tweeks, plus if you look at past comp results you would have done about equally well in larger fields from the past (IN A TRUNK most of the others had hatchbacks or suv's in those). When your wired down to an ohm you'll def be in the 40's. Today was a testing day for you and as you said you learned alot, and thats what it was all about. I hope to see you at another NESPL event tearning it up in my class when your wired right. Rem., the guy that took your class today would have to change a ton of his equipment to even lick your boots after you only add a battery, plus your sub is no where even close to broken in... you will hear a big dif. in loudness after your break-in, I know I did as has basically every1 I know... i bet you dream of batteries and 1 ohm tonight! You possess a very important skill, one that is rare: patience and I respect that, so IMO use that patience after you wire it down to an ohm and wait till that sub broken in before you go full tilt, you won't regret it. Your sub will last alot longer and be louder in the long run. You have good taste in equipment and patience so I know your gonna be one loud mofo in the NESPL if you do decide to compete, if not then in your general area for sure. I look forward to seeing you in the SPL lanes again in the near future. I know you said you didn't want to travel too far for some of the events but maybe after you get your battery you may change your mind ;-) even if not he is having another comp in MA sept. 27th, its not on his schedule yet (will be soon) but I heard it is confirmed, so maybe I'll @ least see you there. dont mean to get off topic but... btw he was being very nice about the car show part! it was a joke! The organizers advertised as much as me and way less then SPLblazer, which is sad cuz they posted on a site that "this show is their life". They were very unorganized, VERY, they showed up late and had nothing set up! it was a cluster f***, they made us move twice the last time after the meter was practically set up.NESPL on the other hand ran a tip top comp as usual. Being a saturday it was small as he predicted but we had almost as many spl cars as they had show cars lmfao. The show guys didn't have the dunk tank as they advertised or a few other things and at the last min. tried to put SPLblazer on the spot to kick in $. He didn't say anything about it to us or complain I just overheard it, honestly it pissed me off. But as usual he stuck up for his competetors and we didn't have to pay extra cash (a few did not knowing but the rest of us didn't) It was days like today that I was glad the SPL comp and car show were/are seperate entities. I obv can not and will not speak for NESPL but i would be VERY suprised if the nespl returns to that show! all that said I had a blast today, met some very cool people, saw lots of cool people that I already knew from the league and am as addicted as ever to this league! congrats again on the trophy Marcus, see you soon. btw you did a good job on your install, very clean. -Bill thanks man! means a lot. it was good meeting you also. congrats on another first but all i wanted to do when i got home was work on my car but it was basically dark lol. i just want to make it better! but anyways i think i'm going to drive up to tewksbury in septemeber.. i know i'll be all setup by then.. and i will go to the other one you were talking about also.. i said i don't want to become a competitor but i actually really want to.. i'll just compete with a daily setup.. or get a box that's in the middle! but i'll definately see you

Just signed up.
welcome and your boy with the sentra knows how to choose a nice setup

MBarber25's Build Log
so i went to a New England SPL event today and i have to say it was a good time.. the car show part was iffy but the SPL part was excellent.. i'm not really looking at being a competitor so i only went to get my car metered and to have a good time i ended up placing third in the A1 category.. on my first run i got a 133.? and on the second, after playing with a couple things, a 136.? lmao.. there were only three people in my class also haha i suck... but remember: i have a trunk and am only running my amp at 4ohms which equals like 500 watts the kid who got first had a hatchback with one 13.5 W7 with a 1000/1 amp and the guy who got second had two W6's but idk what he had for an amp.. they thought their JL stuff was the shit but they have nooooooo clue what my setup should be like so no i'm really desperate to get a second battery so i can wire my sub to 1ohm.. then i hope to be in the 40's i just didn't like losing to people with mainstream JL and basic setups :/ but it was my first time and a goood learning expirence

BL sound quality?
i have a BTL and it has excellent sound quality IMO i've never owned a BL but i'm sure it's sound quality is right on point i'd go with the BL's but if you want to save some money then go with the Q's.. they'll both be able to handle and extra 400 watts each easily

Got a Problem - Need Solution
it's alright i suppose.. its only at 4ohms so it's not near its potential.. but i moved my box back about a foot when i put it in and i think that caused a change is spl in my car so tomorrow i'm going to put it back to where it was before.. then i'll maybe be able to see a difference... but as of now --- the 250/1 at 1ohm was louder :/

SAZ 2000 installed
haha i see.. just use a dmm real quick and see what the voltage is at the amp at full tilt the voltage at my amp drops into the high 11's for a split second at the end of a big note.. this is probably the most abusive song i have but this is at idle (and my car was idling for a good 15 minutes) when driving around my voltage drops to around 12.5 like you.. (not sure how many rpm but i was cruising at like 10-15) the only electrical upgrade i have right now is big is 1/0.. but i'm going to pick up a deep cycle/starting battery tomorrow (yellowtop) since jacob is in here.. will i damage my amp is it drops below 12 for a quick second? or should i take it easy on the volume knob until i get that battery tomorrow? (we have a similar problem so i figured i'd ask.. just let me know if i'm jacking.. sry!)

SAZ 2000 installed
i put mine in yesterday also. but mine is wired to 4ohms.. so i'm only seeing around 500 from it.. 15 minutes ago i set the gain using a 50hz tone and dmm etc etc.. since last night i did it a different way but is your voltmeter wired to the terminal at the amp or the terminal on the battery under the hood? your voltage might be lower than what you really see because the voltage at the amp isn't as mush as the battery under the hood..

Got a Problem - Need Solution
ok i think i have the subsonic set about right i think.. it's a pain in the ass.. you have to guess kinda where the right setting is.. it's only number at each end. as for the lowpass.. same situation. but it's not hitting a certain highnote.. any idea of what could fix that? as for the gain.. i did it by watching the voltage drop directy at the amp terminals on certain songs... the voltage stays very stong but i basically have to be driving.. any tips or tricks?.. i want to get this set right since it'll probably be at 4ohms for a little bit of time :/
-
Got a Problem - Need Solution
ok yea haha just hooked it up and finished at 10 lol but now to really play with the settings.. so I have some quetions.. where should I put the subsonic? ideal spot? (34hz box) lpf? it's all the way at 300hz right now. better spot? and can I crank the gain up until I see a major voltage drop? it's half way right now and my voltage is staying really high? where should it go?
-
Got a Problem - Need Solution
ok good to hear but a couple more things while I have you.. how should I setthe gain in this situation?
-
Got a Problem - Need Solution
haha alright I know saying big boy was foolish I just played music at full blast and dropped .1 volts - 14 to 13.9.. so it makes me believe my electical can handle another 250 watts for now so basically.. what I'm really curious about is this: if I hook up my 2000d at 4ohms and keep it above 12 volts I'll be ok? amp will not get damaged. and haha ofcourse I'm anxious. I'm running my sub at an eighth of what it's rated for and I have a perfect amp to go with it. going from 250 watts to around 500 will make me happy for now. it's hard being 17 and not having cash for the last three things I need. I don't have credit dude. my parents are my credit cards and they have the choice to say no so as long as I don't play full blast at stop lights and blast it with the car off I should be ok running this amp at 4ohms. or should I wait..
-
Got a Problem - Need Solution
so how should I go about setting the gain? play a bass heavy song at full blast and slowly move the gain up until voltage drops a tad below 13v?

MBarber25's Build Log
so um made some changes today: sub is wired to 4ohm since the one i have in now couldn't take the 1ohm load.. and now the sub is crooked due to mounting problems... but whatever looks aren't everything and i can already tell a difference in output from the amp after switching from 1ohm to 4.. and i don't like it! so..... this friday i will be putting in my SAZ-2000D and running it at 4ohms so it'll be putting out about 500 watts give or take i'm very exciting for the upgrade and i know the small jump in watts will be verrrrrrrrrrrry noticable also i got some stuff in the mail today i'll show you guys what's in the box later.. nothing too exciting
-
Got a Problem - Need Solution
sooo i wired my sub in series today and the problem is fixed! so thanks to you guys! but i do have to say the output of the amp doesnt seem the same.. but i could be mistaken.. but no more popping o im happy
