What subs would be best?
Alright. Would you (for example) strap a 2200D, upgrade the alt, then strap another 2200D?

Just ran into a box problem...
I just had an idea.... One powermaster battery is about 450$ shipped for me. If I buy a 200 amp alt (300$ shipped from a guy on these forums) and ditch one of my batteries (and I would wire it Big 3 with zero gauge), will the stock battery be enough for 2x AQ-2200D's or 2x SAZ-2000's? If it could be then I could probably get two 12" BTL's and power them very well...

What subs would be best?
Well, I would like to do a bassrace and the sky is the limit for what class. I wouldn't think I would go above 140dB with two 12's (but I don't know if I could on my budget. Again there is no limit on how loud). It looks like 2 12's will give me the most cone area so I am leaning in that direction. I have heard a lot of good things about the BL's with the amount of power I have available. I could probably save a little and go back to the AQ-2200D and still power those things well... Or maybe to the kicker 2500.1 if that will power two woofers. I was thinking of trying out two 12" BTL's but I don't think I have the power for them at the moment. If I could get two 12" BTLs with my budget and the power I can give, sold. I DO plan on upgrading my alt eventually and getting a bigger amp. Maybe sometime this winter. And daily is something that I can listen to everyday. Something that wont just "burp" out noise. The best example I can give is the SPL vs Daily option on the subs from Fi. I would like something that will sound good playing music (seeing as I would like to do comps via playing music / bass cds and not tones).

What subs would be best?
Anybody know why I was told to stay away from 4 10"s? Why would it not be good for a comp?

I sent you a pm. I am also putting a DC3100 battery in the trunk

what program do you guys use to design boxes for subs? or do you all just draw it out?

What subs would be best?
Alright lets first start off with I have gone through about 20 different woofers (talked about) and still have not picked one to install yet. I went from 18's to a single 15 back to 18 then to 4 10"s now it seems I am stuck once again. I am putting all this inside of a 2002 VW Passat GL with a 120 amp alt. The trunk space is roughly 40w x 18h x 42d. Now I have enough room to fit a 18" in there but not enough room to allow adequate airflow. Well that's fine so lets downgrade to a 15" or 12" or 10". First I was talking with Shizzz and we decided on 4 10" sd2.5's. Would allow for more cone area than a single 18 and therefor move more air. But here is the problem, I would also like to try to compete in some events. I was also told by Shizzz to stay away from evens with 4 10's cause they wouldn't work. So here I am once again, back to the drawing boards. Before he left yesterday he said that he would think about 2 12's for me and I have not heard back form him. I know he is a busy guy and that's fine I just would like some other inputs here as well because maybe there's something him or I missed that may be brought up (others also liked the idea of re posting just on sub suggestions). Well here is my .02 on all of this. I don't think I should go over 3k watts because of my stock alt and budget. I can downgrade my deck unit to allow for maybe 200$ tops towards something else. The brand does not bother me. I have looked at several different brands and right now I don't know. All of the online dealers seem to know their stuff and seem to be the best at what they do. So down to the main question -- for daily driving / comps and running about 3k watts (I could also do 2500 to save money), what sub(s) would you pick and why?

Well back to the drawing board. It seems if I want to do comps, 4 10"s are not the way to go...

SAX-50.4 and Z15 Close-Out Sales
Hey man I pay paled you the money and my address and everything. Just haven't gotten a reply if the money has been received and/or if its ordered. I am just checking to make sure everything is alright, no rush.

Just ran into a box problem...
I have been looking really hard at the SDC2.5 and I think they may do for me, for now. When I get my electrical upgraded and if they are not enough, hell ill throw a bigger and badder amp in the trunk. I have been looking and I am not sure what the displacement would be of these subs. I want about 5.5 cubic feet total space. So If I went off of a different 10" for a rough guess it would be about .16 cubic feet displacement. Roughly .64 and Ill say its .7 just for a nice round even number (don't need to be that specific right now). So I was thinking of a box like 17in high, 40 in wide, 20 inches deep. Would give me about 5.94 cubic feet (I love this box tuning calculator). What I don't understand is how would I want the port? I want an external port to maximize the space outside the box so I don't starve anything. I was told by Shizzz that I want about 84sq inches of port. That would mean roughly 9.2 high by 9.2 wide by an inch deep for the wood...That would tune me to about 71hz. What am I doing wrong here? (or what did I misunderstand?)

I just found somebody online selling a 2005.1 for 500$. Do I dare go for it?

Just ran into a box problem...
I know hes a good man and I trust his word. Its my mind that goes craaazy. He recommended the 4 10" subs I was talking about before (SDC2.5) and figured I had the room for four of them pointing forward with a port on the top to back (i think that was the port, not sure). He also said a kicker 2500.1 would do well...

Anyone ever head of powerbastards?
this is the only alt that i can find that may fit my import...

Just ran into a box problem...
shizzon. we were talking in the live room and we figured that thats what i had room for. I have room for 2 15"s as well but that would eat all my trunk space and wouldnt have eough room for batteries or amps...

Just ran into a box problem...
I like this. I should have realized this a while back. With your post do you mean 136dB? I think its only physically possible to pull like 196 or 194 or something dB. As for right now I have ordered my frontend system and it should be here sometime this week.I need to look more on these 10s. I think they will do what I want them to eventually. The only problem is is I cant find any good sources for the AQ SDC2.5 Series on reviews. One guys says there awesome subs. Ok well that makes me feel a little better. One other guy may have tried them and feel that XXXXX makes a little bit better sub and a little sharper and louder for the watts put at them when they are the same as the SDC2.5.

and by 4 i mean 8 gauge. Do I want to order some sort of special connectors to get it wired from (and including) the amp to the sub terminals? or is it a type of screw terminal? I am starting to google around somewhat and it seems that a lot of people think the AQ SDC2.5 Series woofer is a cheap 10" that cant handle a lot of power. Somebody said on another forum (digging up) that he was putting 2k watts at three of them and they blew. Yeah I understand he may have done something wrong but what if he didn't? Yeah I am not going to be throwing a lot of power at them I just fear that I may not be putting enough out for four. I also don't want to be disappointed. I guess I am just worried about the fact that I don't understand how 4 10's can put out enough pounding for what I want. I am looking at the 18" BTL and just wonder how much more is that doing that what I can. For example check and video out. How would 4 10"s compare to that? I guess all the unsure questions are a good sign of my inexperience. And my second question is is this the best setup for what I listen to, for what I want and for the money im going to be putting into it (3500~). I just don't know...

Just ran into a box problem...
So ontop of all the amp wiring kits I am going to want to order some 4 gauge for the amp to the sub?
-
Just ran into a box problem...
no no I meant like from the amp to the sub. What kind of wire do I use for that? I had a single 10" mtx 8500 and that was 4 gauge wire from the battery to the amp. Then from the amp to the speaker itself looked like 16 or 14 gauge wire....

Just ran into a box problem...
Why thank you. I know a guy that runs 3 10's and they hit pretty hard. The only thing though is I think hes throwing 1k watts at all three of them. So 333.333333...w total. Im hoping I can put him to shame. Why wiring kit(s) would I need to wire all of this? This is just a general question but once you wire the amp to the power, what do you wire from the amp to the sub? Is it zero gague once again?

Just ran into a box problem...
Alright. It was suggested to me that with a battery bank (the D3100) run the Kicker 2500.1 and 4x SDC2.5 10"s. What do you guys think? I would assume the box will be ported to about 33hz. I would have more cone surface than a 18" and be puttnig a lof of power at all four of them. I am looking for suggestions also to what to turn my box to (why 33hz vs 30 hz vs 40 hz...yada yada) and if these subs will do the best for being 10's. For example, should I go to the SSD 10"s instead of the SDC2.5 10"s? Also I dont know if I would throw the same ammount of power at a single 18 or 15 which would be louder. I would assume the 10's would be just as loud but hit harder because of the greater cone area. I figured out the area of a 18 would be roughly 255 inches, a single 15 would be 177 inches (two would obviously be about 354), 4 10's thuogh would give me 314. I would have a little more umph with two 15's but then all my trunk space would be nuked. The idea that just popped into my head was in most competitions they only go by single or double subs (1x or 2x) and not by 4x. The more than two usually puts you into a custom catigory which I would assume is harder? I think this is what happens but not sure. Again I am a rookie when it comes to this kind of stuff, so you guys tell me. Let me know what you think. Too much power? Too little? Yes this is a good idea? No this idea sucks?

2 18s 4th order project
holey...how much does that thing weigh?
-
Just ran into a box problem...
alright. That is exactly what I was looking for! I understand I could fit one in the truck but it would not be able to breath, only take shallow breaths. I will try for a single 15 because that's all I have room for electrical wise. This will allow me to put the extra (50$ i think) towards a better amp lol.... What amp would you push a 15" BTL with -- I have a 120 amp alt, going to put in 2 DC3100 batteries eventually (starting with 1). Second one going in in a few months. I know of somebody on these forums that has a 140 amp alt and hes pushing 3500 watts with ease he said. Should I try for the kicker 2500.1? or the SAZ-3000D? Or should I stick with my origional of the AQ-2200D

Just ran into a box problem...
2x 12's might reek havoc on my electrical. each can stand 2k+ watts but I with my alt and batteries I may only be able to pull 2500 tops. My best guess right now is to get a 2500 watt amp and get a single 15... What would happen though if I were to put a 18 in the trunk and keep a seat down? I am not trying to argue or anything I just don't know what would happen... Or say I left the seats up... I know I would be "starving" the sub for air, but what does this mean?
