chop's build log
off of the specs and other reveiws read on the sub, it would be assumed that it would have the ability to do well in more of a musical enviroment than in a fart box. these reveiws where not from LB, I feel like it still has some potential to sound better. i am not fully in the know about how the enclosure can help out, I though that i have read to get a lower bass response, you tune the box lower, lengthen the port. I also am having trouble with the coil being warm..... i have the amp at about 35/40% gain. i am only guessing there is no clipping, there is no distortion, i have turned up the head unit a little too high a few times, it is hard not too though, i was guessing that if there is no clipping, creating the sqaure waves that take away the thermal handling ability that it must be that the sub is in too large of an enclosure..... I am not sure and am looking for input, advice, reading material, relitive links, etc. I want the bass response to equal that of the many systems that i have heard in sound...... I know i will not be the loudest amongst us, that is fine, i just want it to sound "right" to me. I still need a dmm from mikey. I still need to add a battery. I really would like to have as much power as i can to throw at this sub. Is a higher tunning really a option for receiving lower bass notes.....not sure i understand that thought process. when you say, ///M5 , that it could be a fart box sub, what would point this chararestic out? I assume that the fact that LB had one is not the only scientifical way of identifying these subs that you speak of. If the amp is set properly, by the dmm, and the head unit is set up correctly, what other attributes would cause the sub to get warm? sorry for all the questions, but hey, that is why i am on here and not over on that other forum...... thanks chop

Crunch 1500 Power Zone.....
We came across a Crunch 1500 watt Power Zone amplifier, P1500.1. it will power up and play music.......... as long as there is some pressure on one of the adjustment knobs..... Take away the pressure and the music output stops. The "Low Pass" filter knob is missing , once the amp is opened up, you see that the whole little box has been removed. so first question is ; can I purchase and install this box ? like is that i DIY type project? second question ; is there any home remedies for the pressure issue? anothere DIY project. If need be, I will send it in and get it fixed, but was hoping to do it cheap, in house. thanks for the input, chop IAK

it is tuned to 35 hz.... it is said to have a fs of 24.5hz. , ........ i wanted to be loud, which it is, but it does not play the lows in a manner in which i am use to. the Xcon still wanted more power... the SAZ-1500d definetly is a power horse but that 18" Xcon wantss even more.... I am old school in that 18"s were said to be sloppy...... ha ha ha , yeah right.... it does dam good at plating low notes.... the tried and true song, Bass I Love You is represented beautifully.... the bass notes hit very loud and the lower ones, create quit the eye candy. the 18" SSA XCON has no problem being equall to a 12" subs reputation for tight accurate bass, only ou move aalot more air with this beast.... air, doors, roof panels, everything is moving, lol. The Sundown Nightshade was a 12" sub, but let me tell you, the S.O.B. is bullet proof. With the right power behind it, wow, it does like magical sh*t to your music. the lows are very tight and the bass is crazy loud . We have played with it with some serious power going to it and it still just keeps wanging. I can only imagine the larger diameters and what thier output would be. The 4 12"s we had in the F150 had more potential still. However for a cheaper brand , they did not disapoint me any. they were in dual prefab boxes stacked... needed a single enclosure speced out to thier needs.... uh, i guess by my experiances and todays technology the diameter is not a big issue...... cone area will equal more air being moved but it also matters more importantly having the right amount of air space and tunning with the right amount of power to back em up. chop

3 Kicker CVXs 12" Dual 2 ohm
I used them in the right size enclosure just didnt have enough port size (port area = 26in^2) but the box was 5.79 ft^3 @ 25.94 Hz, and they pounded like crazy (pucking excellent lows and great output at that volume). My friend has some CVR's in a smaller box than mine tuned at 30Hz with 3-CVR's and they pound like crazy, before I left from school he threw my CVX's in his box and put the CVR's to shame (way more output and lows). Anything else just ask me. just continuing my homework from the other thread..... thanks for the help..... waiting to get the go ahead for his box. i will attempt to spread the word about your subs for sale. good price. chop

3 Kicker CVXs 12" Dual 2 ohm
the enclosure you have these in, how did that perform? what tunning did you use? Volume? any reviews on CVR's? thanks, just curious? free bump though, huh! chop

I don't like it! I am thinking the tunning is too high and a little too much air. there is too many songs that are like 'off' to me, just not the right sound. the coils are getting warm also. thinking i should drop my tunning to 30hz. and loose about .5 cu.ft. of air...... i gotta have a little better sound.......... i think i might of got spoiled from mdizzle' s XCON and jdawg's Nightshade. the electrical still is not done, so the amp is turned down.... i think the head unit has more to desire, very little control.... the IA LI's in chicagofans ride does a better job of delivering the lows also.... I am going to be trying to save up for some more mdf and at least a second battery until i can get a alt in there. with all that said, it still manages to turn heads and give the ol' eardrum a run for it's money..... just is not where i want it to be yet. chop

Kicker box build.....
i think he currently has a 2 ohm stable amp.... does the cvr's have any markings that would note the impedance? i have not played with the odd numbers when it comes to ohms.... would these numbers do okay on the corrasponding amps? like 1.34 ohms.... is that okay for a 1 ohm stable amp..... is there any information to be noted? same question toward the 2 ohm rating also..... thanks for the input, chop i will check pm in a sec.

Kicker box build.....
thanks man...... i imagine if i point toward getting something 1 ohm, he will get something along that line...... perhaps 38 hz. will do then..... not sure what these subs will do.... i have been spreading it a little too thin around here.... i will attempt to get some more pics soon..... i sent a pm requesting your mailing address.... did you not get that or read it yet????? might get some mail !!!! Thanks for the help chop

Kicker box build.....
Okay, I have a guy that lives behind me that has three 12" Kicker CVR's . He currently has them in a very crappy box and is wanting me to throw a better box together for him. I stand to make a few bucks from this project. that is all. there is no possibility of him competing or even keeping this setup long term. just a better box than he has and some cash in ol' chop's pocket. So for the sake of getting good responses, i am not looking to buy these, i only want to get some good input on what volume and tunning would be good for them to get loud with. not a fart box, but i am sure he has no interest in catching the lows. I have not used these subs before..... off the top of my head i would think 2 cubes per and tune to 36 hz. ..........is this good enough for these subs? i wish i could tell you what power he will have running to them but i really don't think he will know either, lol. so i will assume the rated power will be supplied for this build. also .... the specs say they can either be 2 or 4 ohm vc's........... without a dmm, is there any way of telling on these subs what the impedance is? like visually i am saying. if not i will try to get mikeys. so ..... volume and tunning for three 12" cvr's in the trunk of a mid 90's caprice..... port and subs friring to the rear..... slot port......... any suggestions? thanks in advance for the help....
