Chops first official box design?
http://i162.photobuc...soneisright.jpg sooooooooo, we like this one with the amendment of ; dividing the H in half and subtracting that from the port length, as opposed to adding ......?????? thanks chop

chop's build log
thanks fellars ....... hey i wanted to note that there is a "wrong" way to foam....... it is exactly how we did it!!! FTL the thought process was to fill the areas super full, tape it off to avoid any big leaks and be done with it = FAIL the foam needs that extra air and space to do it's thing......if you over fill the voids it will restict the air flow, it will expand, only to shrink and turn into some nasty liquid junk at the bottom of the cavity, we have done this lots of times but always real slopy and just did not attempt to prevent the over flow spills.... little did i know, this is the way it should be done half ass at a time and sloppy..... lol. ......well lol now, anyway. the foam needs the air...then it does great....let it dry then it is easy to remove... if it is a surface to be protected , tape it off using masking tape , go wild, let it dry then remove all the mess and tape....this will be FTW. just wanted to throw that in there..... will have completed pics of big three and the painted panels installed tomorrow..... Mikey, big thanks for the door speakers... Steve, thanks for all the help.....

chop's build log
guess i will go ahead and start the build log...... so, this is about where we decided I should be taken pictures, most demo work was done before i got the cell phone out, no camera for a while yet. took out the rear seats completly and made up some panels to replace the void. have started some of the electrical upgrades as well as some basic deadening.

too cool, i am still learning all about the tunning, i like seeing bilds that are a little different, unique! i think i am tunning this first box to 35hz. , i was thinking this would be too high at first, lol..... i am anxious to see what this will do for me..... i bet you got a few hours in that enclosure!!! uh, after taking a second look, where are the ports??? lol. i can't find them....

Chops first official box design?
http://i162.photobuc...soneisright.jpg i used this one and came up with 29.58" using that math.......that seems alot longer than what you had suggested @ 25.5" this is with a additional 2" added to the answer, if i were to subtract the 2", then i would of been at 25.58" ........... so am i really that close to getting it right, subtract instead of add the 2" with this formula ????? chop

Chops first official box design?
i will take my numbers and run them through the formulas again..... keeping in mind what you have said. i am determined to walk away from this with a complete understanding of what to do and how it's done.... did you take a look at the two i have....port length calculation formulas........ do they appear to be correct? thanks chop

Wall Coating? Herculiner?
roll on will tend to deliver better coverage and texture..... if spraying, a spray gun ddelivers the better coverage in comparison to a rattle can..... spraying in either fashion requires the most prep work...... i would suggest grabbing a couple of rattle cans for trim work or hard to reach areas and roll on the rest..... another thought process could be to take the vehicle to a truck bed liner shop..... it will cost more and the more prep work you do, the easier they will be on your wallet..... a fellar at our state fair had a demo of a pop can that he sprayed.... you could not dent this can....not at all. he said $350 to $400 for a complete trunk and lid color matched to our car..... if you do straight black, alot cheaper.... prep work is the other factor.... the roll on stuff is easy enough and is good coverage.... sometimes you can get a deal on it as well. chop .02

Chops first official box design?
okay......... i think i understand some of what yo are saying, i will re-check my math....mainly because i think i aleady did this.... am i confused still or is there a typo or mistake in these two sentences.......... sentence # 1 " So, in a slot port, you take half of the width which is 2" here and subtract it from the required physical length." ......... so this is saying "SUBTRACT".... sentence # 2 "The port wall depth itself would only need to be 17.25" deep, then add 2" for acoustical length - 19.25" then add 0.75" for wall thickness - 20" " ........... and this says " ADD " ............. what is going on here? if both calculations stand true...subtract 2" and then add 2" , ... i end up the same place.....0 - 2 = -2 + 2 = 0 !!! i use these........ http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=165 http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t246/Kickerlivenloud/PortLengthsolved--Thisoneisright.jpg thanks for the help so far... get me the rest of the way now, lol chop

so, I finally got my crap together enough to take a closer look at begining this box. I have a couple of questions perhaps to help better my understanding of the concepts applied. first off, port area.....12" to 16" sq inches of port area is suggested per cubic foot.......i went with 62 sqaure inches (4" X 15.5" = 62" ) ........puts me at 15.5" X 4 cuft. I am powering the sub at rms. I want it to be loud, but not just farts, daily music loud. I was under the impression that I should go with a larger port area....to get louder....is this correct? I am asking because when shizzzon redesigned the port, he also changed port area......smaller. second problem I am coming across is port length......I cannot find a consistent formula to design the port length.....it is cool to find answers on your own....you know?! so, I have read that there is no two port length calculators the same..... okay....well I am confused about what the hell one is right? I mean I floated a design around in a few places and found no consistency, I mean a couple of inches differance in either direction.....? I don't want to question any ones methods....I just want to find a method that is consistent.... consistently correct perhaps even. It is very important to me that I learn this and learn it correctly. If I need to back all the way up yo learn it correctly, then thats fine. any input our links to info would be great..... I am planning on rereading the info I have located so far... attempting to apply it to these designs, hoping to find a consistent bases in wich I can count on and apply to build designs. again.... any and all info would be great, input is fine....draw it out, step by step, help get ol' chop right....100%. thanks alot for the help, chop- Enclosure Design
lol, she is referring to the enclosure covering..... as Jay-cee was saying...... i believe she is wanting any info or leads to where to get the fabrics at..... hey sis , when you buy it, get enough to cover some panels and stuff in the car..... any pics of these type of installs? chop- update on Alex(chops grandson)
thanks too all of our friends, it feels good to have so many care about his well being... chop- Chops first official box design?
no road trip, sorry. too many obstacles to overcome for us as a group. will instead begin box build and finish electrical. sorry shizzzon, we will be down in feb. at Carl Casper. good luck and look forward to seeing the results... chop IAK- 10-24-09 Somerset, KY MECA 2x Event
no road trip for IAK, too many obstacles to overcome...... will continue working on current goal of Carl Casper show... sorry shizzzon, we just can't pull this one off. will be anxious to learn of your results. chop IAK- Chris' Wall Build in the Aviator vids p.35
i believe the tub of spirits within the back ground of the last pic might explain the young man's, (Josh's), red eyes and the apparent inability to kneel vertically , lol i would like for you to take a moment and forward me a crap load of info on horns.........yours as well as in general...pm is fine if preferred, thanks can't wait to see your subs, lol at the delivery guy, chop- T-Boxes
upon reading your post a tad bit better, i do in fact now understand you currently do not have the car, lol, silly me.... okay, sooooooo........ on even further reading i can pick out that you have been doing some of your homework! good deal!!! I am thinking you might be perhaps a little ahead of the game if building the box before purchasing the car or subs..... I do have a small bit of advice on the interior of the car......junkyard! yup, go out to the junkyard and dis-assemble a few interiors, attempting to do it somewhat gently as if it was your own....then attempt to put it back together... practice makes...... well sometimes, perfect! it sounds like you have a eye for audio, another words, you are looking at some good stuff here. I wish I could shoot you some numbers for the box....but really you should sorta hold off until you have the car, only my .02 though, not bashing your enthusiasim one bit. the power issue, i suggest that any one who is serious about thier sounds, have a solid electrical system. the high out put alts. are FTW........ having a nice battery bank and a complete big three is a must to me also. to where you are scooping up the knowledge currently, later using that knowledge toward good, intelligent purchases will get you more bang for your buck! there is no top end in audio, so attempt to stick to your budget and enjoy the hobby within itself. by your senior year you will have a killer install, i will look forward to seeing what your build will be. the possibl meter at 149.9, wow , so many varibles, apply all the right aspects, yeah no problem, but if you were referring to doing that number by your senior year.... you will have changed your install too many times by then , lol, who's to say what monster SSA will release in another year and a half. lol keep studying audio, chop- Tahoe Rebuild 10kw
i like where this is going...... that amp is awesome....... loving the four sets of power input....FTW chop IAK- update on Alex(chops grandson)
