Skar VVX 15's Design: opinions on this?
M5, I thought you only offered constructive responses? Because that is blatantly a derogatory comment at the end. He is very happy with the Skar VVX-15 and is choosing to get more of them. For a minute I actually thought you were going to give him advice... Mike - I am on my phone - but from what I can see in your images at a quick glance - the box looks great =) -Kevin It is constructive. He made another thread and decided on a different driver before you misled him again. Since you like the box so much perhaps you can explain why. 5.5cuft and those 15's is NOT going to work out well unless you seriously don't care about frequency response. I'll wait for your response although I expect that you'll punt again.

Skar VVX 15's Design: opinions on this?
Let me put this into perspective. That box will have a very narrow frequency response and will sound like shit. If you arbitrarily dropped a single Xcon 15 into the SAME box with the SAME power it will be louder from every where except between 45-65Hz where the Skar will be theoretically louder although not enough for you to hear the difference. Not sure why you'd do that.... The response of the VVX series was designed and geared for people who don't know what they are doing. Getting one to have a decent response in a box is extremely tough....although if you like peaky plays a few note wonders they are fine. Seriously odd choice IMO.

Perhaps explaining why you picked what enclosure volume, port size and length would help. Otherwise it is a bit arbitrary in anyone's response. I thought you got smart and were going to use a different driver?

If you meant plans for Tu/Th not ultimately. Depends on what happens between now and then Over "lunch" I ripped out the console and old & moldy sub box. Might have the space I was hoping for depending on whether I can move the steering cable or not.

Either is great! Any good plans? You should take the kids to the car show! Best bonding a dad can have...other than fishing. Have a margarita party to go to on the lake on Friday that is overnight. First time we are having an overnight sitter...Probably fucks up Saturday

Punch P400-4 and 300-1 http://www.amazon.co...&hvptwo=&hvqmt= http://www.amazon.co...rockford+p300-1 Includes bass knob, but not the cable. Pretty sure it's just a standard ethernet cable though and if I knew the wiring code could include a cable of any length since I have bulk cable and connectors. Ok neither will do what I need, but the 4 channel might be a good one for my nephew. When you post them up let me know, Thanks. IMO the Vega is a better amp...but I realize the allure.

I don't particularly like anything braised or boiled. Of course poaching/sous vide gets around most of those concerns.

Door speaker location opinions
Oh, rule #1 for buying separate components. If there are no t/s parameters they are hiding something and you should run far away. ....and part of the reason for all my clarification is to help you as well as anyone else who searches on the topic.

Door speaker location opinions
Sell the tweets. Seriously. Terrible match for those mids IMO. Perhaps you have t/s parameters. Without it's hard to tell. Normally a super tweeter could "keep up" with 8 or so mids....so unless you have 8 it makes no sense. You are giving up frequency response for output you cannot use. Supertweets are also notorious for blatantly lying about their frequency response. Both in the actual curve and their capability to play low. Pretty much ALL of them can't play below 4500Hz. 4500Hz on an 8" mid will sound terrible. There are tons of tweeters that WILL play low enough to blend, but none of them will have the sensitivity of the super tweeter and considering your mids don't you surely don't need it. Again, mounting locations generically speaking. As far from you as possible and as equidistant. Having both the mid & tweet in the "same" location is also helpful, but if you are looking for stage height then it also means raising your drivers up. Hard to be specific as I am first very dubious with your driver choice and second if you do (please don't) decide to install those drivers the tweeter is rather large and will seriously limit the response. Also if you do, you have no choice but to try to get the 8's on axis otherwise right in the part of the frequency spectra where most music is you will have a horseshit response. Sorry to paint such a non-pretty picture, but it's flat out true. I seriously hate the morons at SMD/FLSPL promoting this an option as none of them know at all what they are talking about. There are applications for super tweeters, just not at all in your install.

Head Unit Powering Coaxil's
Dimming is NOT an indicator that you should rely on for determining that you need electrical work. It is a glaring sign that perhaps there is a weakness, but it doesn't mean a voltage problem. Simple solution anyway. Turn the gain down on your sub a bit. Add front stage amp. Headunit power is an oxymoron. I'd ALWAYS add an amp to my fronts before even thinking about a sub.

Better sealed option??
At 2.5cuft net, the difference is in the low frequency roll off. The SSD will be down 3dB at around 60Hz and the Gcon 3dB at 45Hz. For the application at hand the Gcon wins for sure IMO.

$800 budget for system. Need ideas!
And the track was laid and mixed near field in stereo. ie, 2 chn up front and nothing else. If he "must" waste his money on rear fill go ahead, but realize it is truly just throwing $ out the window. Here is an exercise for you. Go to any high end audio store. Pick your favorite speakers in 3 catergories. $500,$1000, $2000. Then compare the categories. And realize if you pick the ones that are half the price to get 2 pairs it is just like what he is doing in his car. Stupid.

Welcome to the IHoP
I am not amused by people who pick chicken as the only protein they eat. It's the first one I'd give up. 1) Tastes like nothing 2) Is the nastiest animal on the farm. Any meat you have to cook to 170F you shouldn't eat 3) Stupid fucking Americans have desired that we breed out all semblance of flavor and ruin the animal 4) Corporate farming promotion at it's worst 5) Did I mention it tastes like shit?

Welcome to the IHoP
Better to start with something more akin to what you like. Perhaps duck. Sure beats the hell of domesticated crap flavorless chicken.
