And thank you Dash can be a beyotch processing wise with the reflections. Then add separation on the two drivers and a minimal crossover at best and I am for kicks all the way with those. Try to open up the area behind the mid as much as possible so it can "breath"

Kicks. Keep those drivers as close to each other as possible. You'll lose stage height, but it'll make your life easier.
  3. Then do some serious listening and compare. You are about to go down a dubious path if you try to implement them together in a tower...

Midbass drivers to go with what?
  5. Not sure the flexibility of the Imprint in manual mode. Its automatic mode is TERRIBLE though. Someone may have used one, but I was so discouraged with the first install I saw of it I haven't looked since.
  6. No. If you "needed" imprint you could add it to your 117. You aren't looking at the right description. There should be a description for the BEP as well and that will define different crossover settings for when in active mode. There are other non-Alpine options as well...
  7. If they sound just as good either way why are you then using both pairs?
  8. Add a baffle/enclosure and the lower end of the curve will fatten up with diameter.

Matt if it makes you feel better, I am not sure I could do those problems, lol. Of course I finished Calc III in 1992 through post secondary so its been a while since doing any Trig.
  10. The tweeter isn't padded. Just a cap. On the tweeter. It is hot! I didn't req. Going to an MTM because the xo would need to be changed. And the tweeter might not be eff. Enough. Duane Confirmed its not even a half decent design then No excuse for that IMO. Easy to fix though This isn't about SQ but sounds like shit or not. Still curious about what you like better about having both versus just one pair.

You were taught wrong. Proper technique is for the chef to season and if you want to adjust afterwards, by all means.
  12. To you, interesting. Have you compared to a setup that doesn't have the highs murdered with two tweeters? Another way of asking that is what sounds better to you with both pairs running? What orientation have you chosen when you are running both pairs? Either way, the tweeter is (or better be if its an even half decent design) padded such that it doesn't overpower the mid. You "could" run two and suffer all the negatives and pad them both, but that makes no sense. Of course you could use both mids and one tweeter (and maintain the same output from the tweeter due to reduced pad), but this would require a completely new crossover and along with it come costs that exceed what you have in drivers so I would think that to be a rather interesting choice that I'd never make.
  13. 3sixty's are noisy and don't give you anything more than a 9887 would. A different headunit is really your best option.
  14. Oh, and don't expect there to be a savings by building your own passives. The last speakers I built had $100 worth of drivers and nearly twice that in crossover components.
  15. Have you designed a crossover before? Have you measured your drivers in situ? Do you have measurement equipment to do those measurements? If you answered no to all those questions then if you need to run passive you should sell the drivers you have as the implementation of the passives you build won't be successful. If yes, then I am not sure why you made this thread

Last night was $15 Lobster night at Lord Fletchers. Boated over and chowed. No pics of course as I was there before the thread And that is medium well. Looks like you used too much heat too. Sear, then decrease the heat for cooking.
  17. As long as you mean 4th order ported, if you recommending a BP you are seriously lost. Running two tweeters in any tower isn't what you want to do.
  18. I think that is a terrible idea. DON'T buy the Kicker, change headunits. Oh and btw, having a passive crossover made will cost more than the difference in selling your 117 and buying a 9887

If only the depth was a little shorter for pillars ill prob do it for my desk. What are you using to power your shelf comp speakers you made 6 months back? Home receiver? Or some computer friendly amp? A pawn shop Pio Elite

    Vertical array next time
  22. Local control of both eq and crossovers are hugely important. You will make changes for months. If you go with your first setting then you should have just bought passives since the result would be a lot better.

    same, almost flu like
  24. If I were you I'd sell the CDA-117 and take the money you were going to use on the KX3 and buy a headunit that can do what you need.

Crate shipments don't have weight restrictions but get spendy fast. Did you try DHL?
