thats a possibility.. That would allow you to put the headunit dough into a processor. Might be safer since he can't dink with it then.
  2. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
How about keeping the stock headunit?
  3. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
I don't think so. More of a design mantra, but that could easily be a side effect.

At the same time he referenced a decrease in efficiency to allow it to play lower. Still should be more than a "normal" driver.

    Don't worry about it.

Damn, lost out on another 85 Raleigh Team USA. So friggin hard to find anything in a 68cm+

As for new headunits, I don't know of any that won't soak his budget
  8. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
He has a used equipment budget, so either budget or expectations need to change.
  9. Rudimentary acoustics. Look up the threshold of hearing and what power change it will take to notice that, then ponder why you are pushing the limit of your amplifier. Now add in the variance of recordings and you should not be able to rationalize the use of an oscope for setting gains. Completely unnecessary.

God I hate you I love my Egg. I want to get one in the worst way just do to all of their capabilities. I know this is going to sound moronic, but can it grill as well as smoke? Like can I grill steaks or burgers or hot dogs on it as well? J Grill, smoke, bake, saute, boil, stir fry, braise, pan fry, and I'm sure you can even deep fat fry with the thing if you really wanted to Hmmm I want to see one in action..... J Lucky you there appears to be a BGE dealer in Sierra Vista. Closest dealer to me is a good 50 miles Good shit...............I'mma have to go see one. Convince the wife its a good investment versus a propane/nat gas grill. J Not a replacement, an addition IMO.

  13. You don't need to push the clipping threshold, significantly down from there is NOT audibly quieter.

    Holy crap, literally.

Never seen one, but not sure I'd pay extra but I'd definitely buy it and am also interested in how you think it tastes.

  20. What kind of boat and where are you putting them? Sometimes there are clever ways to make room for more bass on boats

Love my 8, sure you guys will too. Need some LLT love myself, but conveniently I am not in a huge hurry...yet.

Sled on the trailer with the cover down in the garage right now which means its a pain in my arse to get it out, but I am supposed to on Sunday. When I do, I'll unload it and disassemble the beyotch and document the shit out of anything you want if you'll help me through this. Whenever you have time to do it. Don't work on it especially for this. I think its sounds like a kick ass idea and obviously don't need the sled until next winter, but can easily keep the hood and such out of storage and still store the beast. Was going to hopefully pick up a 19" rack this weekend and need the sled bed to grab it since I don't have a truck anymore. I'm pretty stoked about it too ! Brainstorming power supply ideas right now... Reflector issues? Need some light to the side and assume this is possible but don't know. I don't know if the reflector would harm...got a pic of the current headlight ? Light to the sides is solvable. I have 60 degree lens and there are even wider ones. I don't, but will within a week.
  23. And just to finish the thought, the Seas W26 CA. $125 each. Treated paper cone. See no monster peaks Some voids, but unlike peaks those can be acceptable. This is also a great driver, but you'll notice the roll-off it naturally has just beyond the 2kHz mark. Obviously you can ask it to play up there, but you aren't going to get a lot of output. Jacob designed these pro audio mids to play a really large amount of the frequency spectra which nearly defines they'll have to be paper or god awful expensive and hard to use. On top of that he designed them to be loud and efficient like a pro audio driver. Normally of course this means no midbass, but he stated he sacrificed some efficiency to gain back midbass which for a car audio installation I would deem critical. I am eager to see the final specifications as I feel this driver will fit a niche in the market that currently isn't really answered. We have great mids or midbasses today, but not one that does both and is efficient and gets loud easily. It is always best to have only a single driver playing one portion of the frequency spectra, but when you can't find a driver capable of playing to your reference levels you sometimes compromise. I sure hope this is a cure for many of those installs. For me, a pair for the boat might very well be in order. That being said I am curious what a coating on the paper will do, but that of course is easily measured.
  24. For instance, Seas W26 Excel. Great driver, $300 each, but the magnesium cone creates some crossover concerns. (not too mention a rather high build cost) See those big ass peaks at 3-5kHz, with the monster at 4kHz. It is FAR from trivial to pull a 15dB spike out of a speaker and build a crossover that will make it play nice in that range. What most speaker builders would do would be to limit the upper frequency of that driver less than 1200Hz. Then they only have to deal with the little efficiency hump from 500-700Hz instead of the monster up higher. Read far from trivial as nearly impossible.
  25. Hard to have a big cone not be resonant with a more exotic material. If you want a 10" er that reaches to nearly 5k, paper is by far the most cost effective medium to get there.
