Not positive they are made there, but considering it is a Mpls manufacturer...

Ha, got so tied up I forgot my original reply. Heard some wood speakers in japan that were terrific. Was trying to imply that these being made at MISCO won't yield the same results though.

I am next week. In fact next week they are my favorite team. Of course it goes like this. Favorite team: Vikings. Second favorite team: whomever is playing GB.

Seems like a novelty to me, but you know people will buy it just for it's looks. The top actually looks just like a lamination. The grain is opposing on either side. If this is hardwood, then you have a glue joint running through the middle of the cone. I love wood used for instruments; it's common sense, but a speaker is reproducing sound made by instruments, so, IMO, keep the wood out. There is a reason paper and pulp has been used for so long. And you never mentioned anything about the Punch 150. . . Is this for sale? I know someone who has a soft spot for an original, so let me know. That is something I said I'd never sell. Last of the original real pieces that I have left....which is why it wasn't in my list before. You have me re-contemplating my logic though.
  7. Unless you are competing it really isn't worth spending the money. What you can't notice (ie hear the difference of) does not need to be maximized. Not only do you need an oscope to verify you aren't clipping, but also the thought of where you want that to be on the dial and what level the output source (in this case sine wave) you will use. 0dB is worst case, but conveniently no cd's are recorded that way so it is sort of strange to set your amps up with it. Again for burping notes different story, but then you are using a mic and not your ear.

Probably built by MISCO which I hope has improved since I stopped in there now more than 10 years ago. Could be interesting and is local. http://w.mawebcenters.com/midwestspeaker/ecommerce/home-audio/woofers/mw-audio-wood-cone-woofer.html Last time I popped into MWS I ran into the guy who sold me the JBL I am about to throw up for sale and that was in 91. Sold me a ton of other stuff too, but outside of that sub and the Punch 150 it is all gone.

  10. As for changes I am not sure, but one thing I can say with confidence is if there are they will be something you'll appreciate. Fi has done a great job historically of learning what to apply for what use with generational changes. If not, they were already great drivers when used appropriately.
  11. If the enclosure is not in the picture yet then picking an amplifier shouldnt be in the picture as well. You shouldnt pick an amplifier until you make an enclosure unless you design your enclosure around the amount of power you want to use. Always, always, always discuss your space/enclosure/goals first. Until you know exactly what you have for space and can use you CANNOT shop for woofers. As I said before, if the sub was designed and has the parameters to run it in a 4th order ported (referred to as just ported earlier) then indeed it should be used that way.
  12. Then you should ignore those "a lot of people" as they don't know jack. I beg to differ. It's kinda about noise rejection... mostly just for induced noise from the RCAs. Say you're feeding an amp that makes 30v wide open with a 1v signal. The signal has to be 'multiplied' (which is actually what gain is measured in) 30 times. If you have 100mV of induced noise then when you multiply that 30 times you'll get 3v of noise on your output. If you feed the same amp with a 6v signal and adjust the gain accordingly then it only has to multiply the input 5 times to reach full output. So your 100mV of noise only turns into 0.5v at the outputs... If you've got 100mV of noise you have other problems. Here is an enlightening exercise for you: Please re-do your argumentation in dB. Then tell us how often is your 4v head unit outputting more than 2v? Be sure to discuss this under listening and not competition. Nobody cares about noise on burps. You differ just went out the window...

    Ha, thats funny.
  15. You can call it whatever the hell you want, but it will only mean something to you and nothing to anyone else. There is no "halfway" point. One is subjective and generally thought of as accurate, the other peaky as hell. Sort of like picking a halfway point between Love and Loud...no real half. And the actual problem with the term is its misuse. 99.99999999% of people that throw out that term have absolutely no desire to be anywhere near half. They want loud as hell, but don't want it to sound like shit. Perhaps a more specific analogy. You have flat and peaky. Where is half? Considering that you do not know where the peak is in frequency nor in amplitude good luck with that. And here is the other problem. I've never seen anyone who asks for SQL actually have any understanding what SQ is and if they sat in an SQ car they wouldn't be impressed. The amusing part is if they actually did understand they would never ask for SQL but instead describe exactly what about the SPL setup they want to avoid or how they'd like to alter the SQ frequency response to achieve their goals. This is a compromise, easy to answer, and actually helpful to other people reading the forum where SQL is a misapplied joke and as a term it shouldn't ever be used.
  16. Then you should ignore those "a lot of people" as they don't know jack.

Stupid hairdresser cut AIdan's hair WAY too short. I am pissed, I didn't want it trimmed in the first place and it is all cut off. Poor guy now has my haircut which only exists due to the need to work.
  18. They are opposites by default, you can surely compromise, but then you shouldn't use that terminology. i was just saying that; in general...i think that if i had to label one for SQ and one for SPL, i would label sealed as SQ. and ported as SPL. u can get SQ out of ported... i was just under the impression that u wanted to focus mainly on SQ. hence the reason i asked if you were going sealed. Still is an incorrect assumption. You should use a driver in an alignment it was designed for in a box that corresponds also to its design. SQ will then follow and that could surely be ported.

That speaker is pretty easy to build a cover for. Especially if you don't use any baffle step and instead play them basically on wall for low end reinforcement.

MK, not the B3 for your project, but the NS3's are being closed out at $12.50 http://www.madisound.com/manufacturers/aurasound/aurasound-specials.php And damnit, tell me I don't need a pair of NS-18's
  23. I'd mock a box as big as possible and put it in there and really see. I think your measurements are "generous" and if you make a plan with them it won't work. No way you have room for three, nor do you want the impedance load of three woofers, nor do you have the budget for 3. My real guess is that you are going to be pushing it even fitting one 12" behind there as there really isn't much space.

If you look real close at the USB port there should be a little piece of plastic holding the 4 wires so when you plug in the male USB everything lines up. Can't you scavenge it off something? I'd imagine it is just a press fit cover now seeing that there are just pins.

That looks disgusting. I do not like shrimp though. I thought you were going to ask where on the Turkey the bacon comes from? That is the only part that confuses me. Fat isn't bad for you, sugar is. Real bacon is teh yummy.
