Most likely less than one in a sealed box. Low power handling, excursion, and cone area does not yield good results IB. So no, I would not at all be interested in running 8" subs IB. If you could fit 8's though 10's or even 12's will fit.

You gave us nothing to go on to give you recommendations and I never knocked the PDX, it would be fine for a sub. What I knocked was the fact that you are describing wanting quality/clarity and then wanting to throw a ton of power on something and still haven't talked about the rest of the system. To me this means your only goal is loud and in that case a very different set of equipment would be what I'd choose.

I too would recommend an 18 sealed over a 12" Q ported, your HT will thank you.

I am troubled by your definition of "quality" and "sound better" By asking whether to use a 1000w+ amp, but only wanting "quality" I am not so sure your definition matches what others here would expect it to be. In particular when you then ask about a crap-onics amp. What are your goals? You say you don't want a "full out system" so I am unsure. It would also help to know what you propose to do to the fronts as well.
