Building a 2-way component set
Two types of crossovers. Active and passive. Your post above sounded like you wanted custom passives. For custom actives it is cheaper on the measurement side as you can use your ears, but also not trivial to get things to sound right. In an active setup you need an amplifier channel for every driver. IE for 2 mids and 2 tweeters you need 4 channels. You then crossover the signal before it comes out of the amplifier instead of after the amplifier. IMO for starting out the best way to do this is with a headunit that already has active crossovers built into it.

BL, Q, or something else...?
99 out of a 100 times when people ask this question they are really BL buyers and shouldn't be looking at the Q. I am pretty sure that fits for you as well. Get a BL, port it, and enjoy.

Building a 2-way component set
It is far from trivial. First step is to measure the response of your mid and tweeter in the mounted locations. You will need a measurement microphone and a way of doing narrow band analysis, this equipment alone will cost you more than a normal component set.

Hmm, Lambo V10 expensive to maintain??? Lol. I agree that my issue with the S4 was it was the least exciting car that I drove; however, it would also be the easiest to drive everyday all day. It is almost boring it is so civilized which of course nearly makes it Japanese. Having snow tires already in 17" which will fit with some cheap rims (thank VW for that) means my out of pocket on the car is nothing...outside of the stereo As for the price jump, considering what you get paying around $30k for a 2006 S4 doesn't actually seem all that out of whack to me. Do realize that the exchange rate from Euro to $ has gone from 1.17 to 1.55 or so in the not so distant past. Pretty amazing these cars are affordable at all. Of course the classic rule of sales is get as much as you can. Considering in Germany right now that both Benz and BM'er are using the Audi as a benchmark I am not surprised they are asking a bit more. I would like to see more grunt in the 4.2 though.

Just at idle though, I was in it when we drove off and if I tried to video on the inside I am sure I'd clip the mic on my camera. It is, well umm, LOUD.

Doesn't sound too bad. Especially considering he didn't pay all the money at once. Well, sort of. Home equity and credit cards paid for that thing. The car was $3-4k, the paint & body around $8k, the tranny $6k and the rest is just a good guess on my part. His original target was $30k, but that was before motor and trans and I am sure he couldn't keep target if he tried. When all is said and done $50k is probably a reasonable number. That and every weekend for a year.

Oh, and I think the fiyachicken is faster than the Benz. Maybe because of the noise, but it sure felt faster and not just by a little bit. I am sure from a dig the Benz will win as it is bound to hook up better with all the electronic goodies, but from a healthy roll I don't think it stands a chance. Considering it is supposedly a 12.5 and under 1/4 mi car that is saying something as well.

I want an S5 bad, but there aren't any used ones. Getting a babyseat into it probably wouldn't be that much fun either.

It would only be my guess, but I would venture he has somewhere near 40-45 into it.

Cheap crossover
I assume you saw: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...c=21439&hl= I wish that the 650 would have been an H701+factory integration solution. If so, I'd sell my car quick.

I haven't yet, and actually probably won't. I didn't realize that they were all automatics My memory of the Benz was better than the drive. I expected/remembered a much better fit and finish then it actually had. It didn't help that it was dirty and smelled a bit like a smokers car. I think that silver one has had a hard life. From today's drive if I have to choose to drive a completely free to me S4 for 3 years or pay $2k a year for the Benz, I'd take the S4. If they were both 100% free to me (minus repairs) I think I'd take the E55. I didn't drive this, because I am frightened that I'd really like it. Maybe I'll wait 6 months and get one. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u...=&cardist=2 Other than a little space it is nicer than the E in nearly every way...except of course the seats which are really, really sweet in the E.

Nothing is guaranteed in life except death. The goal of an education was never to guarantee you a good job, but to earn you the potential to get one. You still have to try son.

High ohm subwoofer?
Wow. Didn't expect that. I tend to agree that it is solely for proprietary reasons in their case.
