meh, then you don't know how so it is pointless. You obviously have never used a ti-89 My point was if you need the calculator to do the problem it is an exercise and not something that tests if you know how to solve the problem. Doing math is trivial, solving problems is what should be taught.
  2. Depends on your definition of feel the bass, if you can hear your sub it isn't an SQ setup. It should seamlessly blend with the rest.
  3. Everything in bold is a bit ridiculous as well. I'd like to know how 150w is good and 200w is overkill, the difference in output is nominal between them
  4. Whatever, not really the case. That portion of the "some" doesn't pertain at all to the OP so I feel you were misleading him. In fact, I flat out don't buy it anyways but either way for sure it doesn't belong in this thread.

I can't say that I have any respect for a prof who rights tests where a calculator would be beneficial. At least Calc or higher anyway. I've had several classes where calculators were necessary as the prof wrote the exam problems to mimic real-world problems with numbers that are not friendly at all. And of course, they take off a couple points for calculation mistakes. So not really beneficial aside from practice, yet definitely necessary. I had shitty Calc prof's that did that as well, but I took Calc I-III in high school via post secondary option at the local college which had crap prof's compared to the ones at Carleton. After seeing how a test should be written, I am completely opposed to the needing a calculator style test. I have a major in Physics and did not use a calculator once in college

  7. Is it absolutely necessary for you to have that much power when not competing? Is it that important for you to be that loud? How much money would that cost you? And is ebay the place to buy other peoples old cars? i can find one for about $1200 2006 and it have 25,000 unless you have an extended warrenty its up at 36K..... but you can get sweet ass dual alts cheap on that year. the way it was explained to me was "ANY ENGINE MODIFICATIONS WILL RESULT IN YOU VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY SIR" An alternator is not an engine modification. If they can't prove that the modification caused the problem or enabled it to happen they have to cover it.

I can see stats I suppose, but not really the rest.
  9. What you are just saying makes no sense at all. How does bridging have anything to do with distortion at high frequencies. More headroom is ALWAYS better. You probably misunderstood what I was saying. It has nothing to do with power/headroom. I am all for overkill, and running over 250w/side on my fronts. Here is a quote from Arc Audio SE manual. And you can also google the details, if necessary for the facts on this matter. "All Arc Audio amplifiers include an input mode switch. This switch controls the signal being sent to the amplifier sections. Most 2-channel amplifiers can be bridged into a single channel however if the signal to the channels is not exactly the distortion will increase significantly. The mode switch solves this problem by offering 3 modes of operation." So you see, it's about the differences in signal strength. And like I was sayng earlier, some amps behave better some worse in bridged modes for high pass components, low pass equipment like subs are not affected as much due to lower audibility. It is also about dampening. You can look at dampaning figures on a manual, and argue till you're blue in a face, that according to calculations, and such high dampning factor of a certain amp, that for example anything over 25 is inaudible, but in reality most people will hear the difference between 25 and 200 final dampening on certain impedance load on the front stage. Subs again, not so much. I for one have little faith in damping factor rating. For front stage, you CAN hear the speaker control differences at different impedances. I've heard amps with lower dampening rating sound better than the ones rated higher, but it's not only about dampening. This is another can of worms. Hey, if bridging a 4-channel into a 2-channel did not have it's shortcomings, that everyone would be doing it, as it makes perfect sense to spend less money to get more power out of the amps. I see a lot of people bridge amps, I think you are highly over reacting by labeling them shortcomings.
  10. Last to the game and the ugliest of the three, GM fails again If they don't start using more Holden and Opel platforms they are screwed.
  11. if you get the 9887, you wont need the 701 the 9887 wont even work with the 701, all you need to go active, is already built in, you can go for a 3 way active system and (inofficial) use imprint, official imprint only works with a 2way setup, but thats bs wth are you talking about? A 9887 can only do a 2 way front stage + sub, not a 3-way. Plus imprint is completely useless. I have now lost all respect for you. Where you work there are a lot of idiots, a lot. You said problems in the plural, none of the people that have had these "problems" are qualified to install

I can't say that I have any respect for a prof who rights tests where a calculator would be beneficial. At least Calc or higher anyway. Calculators are allowed in Diff EQ, and physics but if you couldn't do the problem anyways the calc wouldn't help you till maybe the last step if at all. Now that is for tests, they were written so you didn't need a calculator, nor was it that beneficial. Being allowed and helping aren't related. I didn't say that they should be disallowed.

As stated once you get into real math, say beyond Calc there is no reason to prove you know that shit anymore.
  16. ///M5 replied to mrray13's topic in Off Topic
And along with it who the fuck cares if you can actually do that portion of the problem. Not worth testing you on.

  21. Vid's don't show you anything. A sealed box by default will have more cone motion than a ported enclosure. I could make this easier. Define what you want but DON'T use terms like SQ or SPL just put things in your own words. Currently you are mixing up terminology and asking for dire opposites.
  22. Depends on your car/alternator. The 1000D will be fine for an IDMax, not a sub I'd choose but I am sure you have your reasons.
  23. Box first, choices second. Measure your space and be realistic, shopping before that makes absolutely no sense.

Calculators still have some advantages Besides size, I fail to see the advantage. Even when I went to college, we no longer used them...

Didn't the laptop replace the calculator about 10 years ago???
