My new addy will be in Deephaven. <-- obviously a guy who chooses screen names based on what excites him at the time
  3. It really depends on how you are going to use it. My guess is either you need the features of the 9887 or both are too expensive for your needs. The addition of BEP and active crossovers, better eq and such on the 9887 is well worth it; however, if you aren't going to use those extra's even the 9885 is a higher end unit than you should buy as it doesn't really give you anything over some other units that would save you money.

Well, I finally read the whole HW thread and had to add my 2 cents. Decided against using my normal screen name though

As for the Boeing comment, I bet as a company they probably have around 500 FE software licenses...maybe more. They also use many techniques to verify and correct their theoretical models. I know for a fact they model in Washington, Missouri, Kansas, California, Arizona, Texas, Illinois all have licenses. There are a lot of facilities I haven't been in though but could guess they do as well.

? http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=42 Dynamic Motor Analysis is a real thing. Not only do they FEA their drivers and simulate BL(x), Cms(x), and Le(x) curves, but they also have a Klippel on hand that can physically measure (more or less) the same thing. Much more than just your static small signal thiele/small parameter analysis (Dynamic vs. Static). Honestly, if it's from JL Audio, you can almost always bet real, viable, and impressive engineering is behind it. A lot of manufacturers do that however. Very true, although not always in house. It's amazing how many companies use FEA....even on at, say, Boeing, FEA is used very extensively in the design of the entire airplane. Pretty much all real companies use FEA, but real speaker designers go one step further and use a laser vibrometer to fix the errors in their FEA. JL isn't that far along , but there are a lot that are in particular in Europe. Here in the states it is fewer, but I know of four manufacturers that have made the investment. You name a company that builds something at all technology based and I will guarantee they have FEA capability.
  8. If you want it to be as loud as possible you need a bigger box. No 12 likes a space that small for a loud install. If you can't go bigger you need to go to a 10.
  9. They can be in parallel and either in or out of phase. I would try both alignments but would expect out of phase to be better.
  10. I have MCE, IMPO, it sucks when used in conjunction with a cable box. Stand alone, it works great. On screen menu, DVR functionality, the pausing of live TV and stuff like that. It will not pick up scrambled channels (HBO, Skinamax, Showtime, etc.). The only problem with MCE is you cannot buy it, at least you couldn't buy it for a long time, things may have changed. I have it on this PC if you wanna come and play with it. Sweet, I'd love to you are a whopping 10 minutes from me.

but the price is a fraction of what a 2 door in that shape would cost besides, it'd match the other one price is only relative for what it is worth later divided by what you pay now. I am not sure a 4 door can compete

I believe no. I will check on it now. No worries, I wanted to hide it but didn't want to if the OP couldn't see it before someone else agreed or not with me.

If I disapprove a topic does the OP still see it?
