I didn't say it wouldn't work, but I will reiterate that it would sound better putting all of your budget into just two speakers instead of stretching it thin.

The center channel is, in a big room but in all reality I don't think your budget is high enough to add one. Think of it this way since you have $600 for diy stuff. Go to your local home audio store and listen to a set of $1000 speakers which for $600 you should easily be able to build. Then compare them with a pair that is only $600 (if you need to build 3 they will be more along the lines of this quality). What would you rather live with? I think it will be a no brainer.

Personally I don't like subthump boxes at all, nor would that be enough space. I like the recommendations of building your own.

he used a 3.5mm headphone jack which carry more than 1 wire. though i still see BS in it even working. did you see the one about charging an ipod with an onion and some gatorade? lol. and he connected one wire to the penny and the other to..... exactly. both - & + are twisted up. so there are more than 1 wires. though he did not seperate them to get the 2 seperate connections. look at the size of the twisted up wire compared to the rest of the jacket.. if that was 1 wire that would be some thick wire for that little cable. Yeah because short circuiting your amplifier or speaker out is good for it. I dare you to try that with the output of your amplifier *note I take no liability for you melting your amplifier
