Sorry but I read your definition of simplistic as antiquated. Fancy OHC isn't so fancy since it has been around for more than 40 years. Pushrods are not a good idea, more moving parts, less capable at higher rpms, and just an older less efficient design.
I'm the same way as you until it comes to one of three things 1. anything dealing with fishing 2. A gun 3. older rockford amps I have a big problem with #1.

Smoky sweet is fine, just don't use BBQ sauce. Woodchips and soak them in sugar water if you want smoky sweet. I'd do without the sweet though.
