  1. Indeed, it would take a shatload of energy but I thought I would try and explain why. I actually got paid to do a consulting job a while back measuring the sonic boom of shotgun shells. They were working on making range shells that were quieter to keep complaints to a minimum for people who lived near shootiing ranges. The gun going off sound doesn't travel very far, but the boom surely does. It would make one hell of a hood beater if you had subs that could create sonic booms....
  2. DSL---d1ck sucking lips?? what do they have to do with a pc?
  3. Take a step back. To have a sonic boom, you need to exceed the speed of sound which is a constant-720mph. Whether you are playing a 30Hz or 60Hz tone it doesn't effect the velocity of the cone at all unless you hold the displacement constant in which then the 60Hz cone will move at twice the speed. This is all really going to come down to how much energy (power) you throw at it for a certain frequency.

The balance is called your checkbook. You got to pay to play...
  6. I am all ears...you know my truck still needs a sub since someone bought the 10 out from under me.

Not sure with the stain, but with polyurethane you NEED to sand it afterwards. 2 box comments though. If you are using ply, use 13 ply birch for a box--way stronger. And the other is I think your baffle and bracing aren't up to your sub. I know you aren't using it, but just had to comment. This coming from a guy who overbuilds everything!
  8. Lookin good! Pre-drilling the screw holes will keep it from splitting...I use a few more screws to cover the distance you are spanning as well but I overbuild everything
  9. Just don't cut any circles in it without Eldo

    Hello.
  11. of course neglecting turbulence being that we use a sinusoid (Hz) as excitation it would actually break the speed of sound in both directions creating dual booms per cycle...again assuming that in both directions it exceeded the speed of sound.
  12. It still requires the same velocity to break the speed of sound, you can't really add two halfs of the velocity together and get anything useful. I picked 1Hz so you would only have to look at the motion in one direction. In other words the displacement would indeed get less (2hz => 1/2 displacement) but the velocity still has to be the same. Actually moving distance has nothing to do with it, just breaking 720mph.

  14. Definetely wouldn't be a problem except: Sonic boom requires exceeding the speed of sound: 720mph therefore 720 m/h (h/60m)(m/60sec) = .2 miles/sec .2miles/s(5280ft/mile) (12inches/foot) = 12672 in/sec So using a 1hz tone you would have to move the sub 12672inches and so on and so on. Obviously you will run into an energy problem and then you have to turn the sub around and bring it back. Those are some dynamics....

Hmm, I don't know about the no mileage comment but you will surely have better inclement weather traction while losing some stick on the dry. Get an H speed rating with a high treadwear rating and you will have them for a while.

Jeez, how long are you trying to make them last?? The best way to have tires last longer is to NOT get performance tires. On the M, I get about 15k miles on a set....ouch!

Sorry mang, I read that twice and am not sure what you are asking; however, I think basically it is need 25" box only 24"--if so just extend the port 1" out of the box. Won't be cosmetic, but you could smooth it by putting a 45 degree chamfer block up against it or do a bit of glass work to round it out and it will be fine. If that is what you were asking.

Before I sold one of my SHO's I got a set of Duralon's from Fleet Farm. $240 installed for 225/50/16's. Currently best deals generically speaking have been at a local Discounttire.com store. They should have something cheap in your size. Either that or do you have a local auto forum. In Minny the mnscc.net/forum has lots of deals on tires, but won't be local to you...
  24. It seems strange to me that you only hear it out of one of the ports. Can you pop out the sub and restrict the air flow to the noisy port and see if it makes the other one noisy? If so, you need more port area for sure. If not, there must be something wrong with the port that is noisy. Might be easier to go all out and frank it, but I am having a hard time understanding how it can be one and not the other. Being they are both vented and should mostly be exposed to the same pressures you should hear it out of both. I would try and isolate the difference to see if I can make the quiet port the noisy one to confirm it is just flat out not enough area. Even though if the Mike's think you are short on port area, you probably are.
