Brutally slow, hard to look at anything. Must resist urge to smash cable modem...

Sea foam has always scared me, exclusively because it looks generic and sounds like an old wives tale product. Heard it works though.
  4. Dang, wild hair again. I have a 60wx2 chn Adcom amplifier sitting in my closet and think I found a use for it. I am looking at building these near field monitors to be used as cpu speakers. I will probably add a plate amp and an rli8 or something that boxes even smaller to go with them. Should I do it? http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker20a.html http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker20b.html I like these for the size, simplicity, and the fact that the crossover is optimized for near field listening. I pulled out an old (real old) Kenwood car audio dual amp balancer that I am stripping apart to use as a volume knob. Just use a potentiometer from the shack and bang, call it a pre-amp (attenuator) and I should be good.
  5. Dennis, your welcome. One other thing that I didn't point out, the really good pro audio cards don't resample the analog either. Meaning if you have a 192kHz source they will play it back. If you start looking for a analog out card PM or post and I will send you links where you can do research. There are more cpu audio forums than car audio ones. People modding sound cards and such, it is pretty wacky. Or spending $10k on a headphone amplifier????

Send it my way, it will give me a reason to go for a ride.
  8. That should work for most things and be superb for gaming. The only reason to pay more for one would be to improve the A/D's for recording and D/A's for analog playbook. CPU boards can have some crazy good ones but you need to visit the pro audio spectrum to get into those and for a laptop they are spendy. What are you connecting it to? Because if it is to your stereo and you use the digital SPDIF of the Audigy, it will be as good as your receivers D/A's are which is a great option. Note that proaudio sound cards are usually pretty crappy for gaming. I use my onboard 5.1 for gaming, and send two channels analog for being a jukebox to my stereo. My pre-amp is old skool like the rest of my gear so I needed to buy a card with good D/A's. Also going to dub my vinyl collection to CD/HD that way. Enjoy the Audigy.

Or just sign him up for treatment, a little more political than getting Johnnie Law involved and will probably have better results. Good luck!
  10. Yep, we now know that we can have Jim do our wiring and Flakko make cut outs for our boxes. Tight!
  11. Or if you want to go nuts with all the options, get a Behringer 2496 and a 12v mod. It will do everything and is computer controlled but you will lose your in the dash control....

Man, we are getting nailed by snow and I don't have snow tires on the car yet; however, in a fit of non-control I bought a snowmobile last night. Not the latest or greatest, but still pretty good. 2000 Polaris XC 600 SP, should be fun in the snow!

    Spooky
  15. Nice review. Sounds like we should be jealous!
  16. Also, think I found a set of barley used (and local) Nokian Hakkapilita 2's. Supposed to be killer snows according to a couple rally sites. My only reservation on these is they are used, they are only 225/45/17 going onto an 8.5" rim and they were run on an M3 one season. Guess I will have to go and look at 'em.
  17. I am leaning towards these as they are local and seemingly reasonable. Hankook W300 $500 installed + tax Dunlop Graspic DS-2 $560 installed + tax
  18. Comin' along and looking great. Going to make me wish I had bought a car that had space to put speaks in the doors.
  19. My exact feelings on the rotoslip They even sort of stink for cutting sheetrock, sure you get a circle but you eat more dust than you put anywhere else and it is painfully slow.
  20. Thought others might be able to use this too, but anyone have recommendations on where to buy snow tires? I have looked at the venerable Tire Rack, the local Discount Tire Direct, and Costco. Here is a summary of what they have available and at what price: Dunlop Graspic DS-2 (TR $122ea + $10 ship +$10 roadh +mount ~$155) Continental ContiWinterContact TS810 (TR $145 +$10s +$15rh+mount~$185) (DTD $180--inclu shi/rh + Mt ~$200) Michelin ArcticAlpin (TR $163 + $10s +$15rh + mount ~$ 203) (DTD $190 + mount ~$210) (Costco $173+tax ~$190--no rh added) The most convenient for me is DTD since they are local and do free balancing for the life of the car which simplifies life and makes it cheaper for the future, but the high buy in is killing me. Does anyone have any better recommendations?

  22. If you want first box horrors. I, being extremely diligent, planned a perfect box with the slope of the rear deck to maximize space in one of my cars. I then setup the radial arm saw with a right angle to make sure everything was squared up. After making all the cuts I assembled the box, but my framing square was off by over 5 degrees which really, really left big gaps in the wrong places. It will get easier, you have to do it to learn!

  24. Thanks, he replied here to my PM and was nice enough to go and look for an old brochure that he has which hopefully I will have soon. Thanks for the help guys.
